  Causes of Provision
Posted by: Muslimah - 11-29-2003, 03:39 PM - Forum: Islam - No Replies

Prepared by Islaam.Com

In an authentic narration narrated by Abdullah ibn `Umar, in Ibn Majah's Kitab al Fitan, which is also mentioned in Al-Hakim's al-Mustadrak, as well as by al-Baihaqi and al- Bazzar, we learn about several causes of most fascinating consequences. The following can be deduced from that narration:

- Rain is withheld when zakat is not paid, and it would not fall at all were it not for animals.

- Illnesses not seen before appear when immorality spreads among people and when it becomes public.

- Lack of provision and injustice of rulers towards their people occurs when those people cheat in measuring.

- Allah sends an enemy to a people that takes from their hands that which they like, when those people leave their covenant with Allah and His Messenger and leave the Book and the Sunnah. - Discord among people occurs when leaders do not judge by Allah's Book and when they choose from it what they like and leave the rest.

One can wonder, how many secular scientists and those usually perceived as intellectuals are there that fail to understand Allah's Sunan yet spend their lives trying to understand causes of many happenings in the universe? More importantly, how many of us fail to understand true reasons behind various disasters in our own Muslim countries? … Thankfully, we can correct this by learning. What follows is a mention of two major causes of provision, many of which are mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Among other causes of provision and development are Jihad in the Path of Allah, Hijrah for the sake of Allah, Hajj and `Umrah, leaving sins, da`wah to Allah, seeking forgiveness and repentance, good behavior towards the weak and spending for the sake of Allah. Causes of Provision (Rizq) Tawakkul

- Relying and depending on Allah the Exalted Allah the Exalted said: And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent. [at-Talaaq: 3] "If you relied on Allah with a true reliance, He would provide for you the same as He provides birds: they set off in the early morning with empty stomachs and return back at the end of the day with full stomachs." [At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad]

Sh. Fadl Ilaahi said: "The one who relies upon Allah with a true reliance is provided for as birds are provided for, and how would it be otherwise, when he has relied upon the Ever-Living who does not die, and whoever relies on Him, He will suffice him." [Mafaatih ar-Rizq, 36]

Tawakkul in the Qur'an: Tawakkul is enjoined in the Qur'an in many places and is a lofty station: "And upon Allah let the believers rely." [ibrahim: 11] "And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die." [Al Furqaan: 58] "So worship Him and rely on Him." [Hood:123] Tawakkul is a cause of Allah's love for His servant: "Verily, Allah loves those who rely on Him." [Aal `Imraan: 159] Tawakkul is a condition of iman and a distinguishing mark of the believers: "And upon Allah rely if you are believers." [al- Maa`idah:23]

"The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely." [al-Anfaal:2] The believer knows that no harm and no benefit can come except by Allah's permission, that He gives and withholds and that He owns everything in the universe. She or he knows that no one can give what Allah withholds, and that no one can withhold what Allah gives. Lastly, relying on Allah does not mean that one leaves striving in this world. Allah says: "So walk among its slopes and eat of His provision" [Al- Mulk: 15] "And when the prayer has concluded, disperse within the land and seek the bounty of Allah." [al-Jumu`ah: 10] Taqwaa "And whoever fears Allah - He will make a way out for him. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." [At-Talaq: 2-3]

Ibn `Abbas said: "'And will provide for him from where he does not expect': meaning from where he does not hope." [Zaad al Masyr 8:291-292] "And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened [i.e. bestowed] upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning [of blame for their sin]." [al-A`raaf 96]

Ibn `Abbaas said: "Meaning, We would enrich them with what is good, and facilitate it for them from every side." [Tafsir Abi Sa`ood 3/253] "And if only they had upheld [the law of] Torah, the gospel and what has been revealed to them form their Lord [the Qur'an], they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feat [i.e. in great abundance]. Among them are a moderate [i.e. acceptable] community, but many of them - evil is that which they do." [Al-Maa'idah: 66]

Ibn Mas`ood said: "At-Taqwaa is that Allah is obeyed and not disobeyed, that He is remembered and not forgotten, and that He is thanked and not shown ungratefulness." [At- Tabaraani in al-Kabeer 90/92] [Most quotes mentioned in “Asbaab ar-Rizq”, collected by Abi al Mundhir Khalil ibn Ibrahim Amin, and published by Daar ibn al Atheer, 1420 H.]

Fortification and Safety From Destruction, Defeat, and the Dissension of Punishment Shaykh Sa`eed ibn `Ali ibn Wahf al-Qahtaani The slaves of Allaah have pillars of salvation and support which save them from destruction and defeat if they are afflicted by them. These pillars are among the greatest solutions for whoever is affected with destruction, or wars and epidemics. They are also a protection from calamities before they happen.

These pillars of salvation are:

1) Repentance and seeking forgiveness from all sins and disobedience, great or small. Repentance is acceptable only with the following conditions:

--a) The abandoning of all sins.

--[Image: cool.gif] Regret for having perpetrated those sins.

--c) Determination not return to those sins. If the sin involves the right of another human, then there is a fourth condition: to exonerate oneself from the injured party. Repentance is of no benefit when the soul reaches the throat (i.e. at the time of death), or after the rising of the sun in the west (the Last Day). There is no doubt that sincere repentance and seeking forgiveness are among the greatest means to attain victory. Allaah says: Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change their state by themselves. [soorah ar- Ra`d: 11]

Allaah says: v Allaah would not punish them while you (Muhammad) are amongst them, nor will He punish them while they seek (His) forgiveness. [soorah al-Anfaal: 33]

2) Fearing Allaah, the Most High, means that the servant places a shield between himself and what he fears from his Lord, His anger, and punishment. This involves acting in obedience to Allaah, by the guidance of Allaah, in the hope of reward from Allaah; and to leave sins by the guidance of Allaah, fearing the punishment of Allaah.

3) Ordering the good, and forbidding the evil. The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, said: "By He in Whose Hands lies my soul, You must order the good and forbid the evil, otherwise it is feared that Allaah will send down upon you punishment from Himself, and then you will supplicate to Him and He will not answer." [Related by at-Tirmidhee and Ahmad. See also Saheeh al-Jaami` (6/99)]

Allaah says: So, when they forgot the remainder that had been given to them, We rescued those who forbade evil. But We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment, because they used to rebel (disobey Allaah). [soorah al-A`raaf: 165]

5) Following the guidance of the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam in all matters of faith, words and actions.

6) Supplication, and humility to Allaah, the Most High. Our final supplication is that all praise is for Allaah, Lord of the Worlds.

"Our killed are in paradise, and your killed in hellfire"
Posted by: Abu Dujanah - 11-27-2003, 10:44 PM - Forum: Islam - No Replies

"Secondly, that I will tell them that their loved ones did not die in vain. The actions we have taken will make the world more secure and the world more peaceful in the long run." - Bush on British soldiers killed, BBC.

I just read that, and three things came up in my mind:

1) Allah's saying:

104. And don't be weak in the pursuit of the enemy; if you are suffering (hardships) then surely, they (too) are suffering (hardships) as you are suffering, but you have a hope from Allah (for the reward, i.e. Paradise) that for which they hope not, and Allah is Ever All_Knowing, All_Wise.

2) Allah's ('azza wa jall) saying:

139. So do not become weak (against your enemy), nor be sad, and you will be superior (in victory) if you are indeed (true) believers. 140. If a wound (and killing) has touched you, be sure a similar wound (and killing) has touched the others. And so are the days (good and not so good), We give to men by turns, that Allah may test those who believe, and that He may take martyrs from among you. And Allah likes not the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong_doers).

3) The saying of Abu Bakr to the disbelievers, "And that you bear witness that our killed ones are in the paradise, and your ones in the hellfire".

Subhaan Allah, why do these people do this to themselves...

"Oftly remember the destroyer of pleasures"
Posted by: Abu Dujanah - 11-27-2003, 10:26 PM - Forum: "And remind for reminding benefit the believers - Replies (4)

Assalamu 'alaykum,

Two nights ago, my brothers and sisters, I went to a graveyard...What an experience...Thing is, I've done it before a few times, but it was always in the day light...This time, however, it was in the dark...late in the night...Subhanallah...Seriously bro's, if you want an "Imaan-booster" as they say, go to the graves in the dark...

It was a grave occupied by disbelieving residents...I happened to walk passed it, and thought, I might aswell enter...When you think, that, these people now, are crying and invoking upon their Lord to delay the hour..."Our Lord, delay the hour...Our Lord, delay the hour"...It really does come to you that you were created from dust, and to it, you will return...

And this death, will reach you...wherever you may be...there is no escape from it...

And this life...is a vain enjoyment...as Allah describes it...

And every soul....shall taste death...

As for the believer, then he calls upon Allah to hasten the hour...as he knows what is prepared for Him by Allah, from paradises...and gardens...and rivers...and lakes...and...and...

As for the disbeliever, then he knows what his abode is...and it will be on that day that he calls upon the Allah...to return them to this dunya...so that they can do good in it...

And they know...that they will call upon the guardians of hellfire, .... to call upon their Lord....to relieve even a day...of the punishment...

Subhanallah..."Oftly remember the destroyed of pleasures..."

Go to the grave yards brothers, and remember that that is were you will end up...

We ask Allah to seal our lives with good...

"And what is this life, except a vain enjoyment..."

How the Islam handles 'rebellion' and 'serious crimes'?
Posted by: Soledad - 11-27-2003, 09:44 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

I'm not very familiar with the Islam faith, that's why I'm here for [Image: wink.gif] to learn more about it. Now I have a question I hope I may be able to explain myself properly. The Islam have certain rules that Muslims must follow, what happened when a Muslim doesn't abide by those rules and they 'preach' certain doctrine that is not in harmony with the Quran itself? Is there a punishment or something the person get from teaching what we could call 'false doctrine'?. I mean, in most religions, when somebody do something against that particular religion the person may face excommunication (if they commit a serious crime for instance) How is it in the Islam? What happened when a person preaches or tries to teach to others something that is different from the Islam?.

  Lots of little rests
Posted by: Abu Dujanah - 11-27-2003, 08:44 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

تَرَاوِيح taraaweeh

It is the plural of the word تَرْوِيحَة tarweehah which means ‘A single rest’, and therefore means ‘lots of single rest’.

Thus, the prayer known as salaat al-taraaweeh is so-called because there is a little break or period of rest after each pair of rak’ahs, and sometimes a longer one after every four rak’ahs.

Another related word is راحة raahah which refers to rest, or ease, and also جلسة الاستراحة jalsat al-istiraahah which is the extremely short period of sitting in prayer between performing the prostration {Sujood} and coming up to the standing position {Qiyaam}.

  Hadeeth on the Future Times
Posted by: Abu Dujanah - 11-26-2003, 02:49 PM - Forum: Islam - No Replies

Allaah's Messenger, Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa 3alaa Aalihee wa Sallam, said, "A time will come upon the people in which their hearts are like the hearts of the non-Arabs. They love the Dunyah. Their traditions will be that of the bedouins. Any provision that Allaah Gives them they will spend upon their animals. They will consider Jihaad to be harmful and charity to be a loss."

Arabic of the Hadeeth:

ليأتين على الناس زمان؛ قلوبهم قلوب الأعاجم؛ حب الدنيا، سنتهم سنة الأعراب، ما أتاهم من رزق جعلوه في الحيوان، يرون الجهاد ضررا، والزكاة مغرما

Reported by at-Tabaraanee, al-Albaanee said in as-Silsilah as-Saheehah #3357 that its chain is good (Jayyid), all of its narrators are trustworthy.

Some benefits from this Hadeeth:

1. It is a proof of the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad, Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa 3alaa Aalihee wa Sallam, because it came to pass as he foretold.

2. It is Makrooh (disliked) to imitate the culture and traditions of the non-Arabs. There are other Hadeeths to indicate this. There is a discussion of this issue in the great book by al-Imaam Ibn Taymeeyah titled Iqtidaa' as-Siraat al-Mustaqeem Mukhaalafat As7aab al-Ja7eem. Some parts of that book have been translated.

3. It is Makrooh to imitate the culture and traditions of the bedouins. This is supported by the fact that they are described in the Qur'aan and Sunnah as being hypocritical, having hard hearts, and being arrogant. It is also indicated by the fact the Prophet, Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa 3alaa Aalihee wa Sallam, prohibited for the city person to migrate to the bedouin areas to live their. Though, he permitted it in the times of great tribulations (Fitnah).

4. It is imitation of the non-Arabs to be obsessive in treatment of animals. This is obvious in Western culture where killing 1 million children in 'Iraaq is a disputable issue, but having beastality with an animal is permitted by their laws in some of their lands as long as the 'animal is not hurt'. They are willing to donate millions for 'animal rights', but for millions of innocent children, no value is given.

Of course, good treatment of animals is praiseworthy and rewarded by Allaah. But there is a difference between good treatment and obsessive treatment. Look at the case of one's own self. It is good to feed one's self, particularly if their is a good intention involved, like strengthening one's self for worship. But it is not good to exaggerate in such.

5. Beliving charity to be a loss. This is obvious in our times, how we see many peoples feeling tremendous sorrow when they are asked to donate money for a noble cause. Or they feel horrible when donating money to the orphans and weak.

6. Considering Jihaad to be harm! Isn't this the way of the government scholars? Who have sold their Deen? Isn't it the way of the pacifist 'Da3wahs'? Like the Ikhwaan al-Muslimeen, Jamaa3at at-Tableegh, democratic Salafeeyah, Madkhaleeyah, Islamtoday'ers? They say the benefit is in dropping Jihaad for education and reform, and the greatest harm and Fitnah is in adopting it as a Manhaj for change?! What is their response to this Hadeeth?:

Hudhayfah said to Allaah's Messenger, Sallallaahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam, "Do you see this good that Allaah Gave us, is there any evil after it like there was before it?" He said, "Yes." I said, "What is the salvation from it?"

He said, "The sword." (Saheeh Sunan Abee Daawood #3569)

7. The problem of loving the Dunyaa. It is the cause of many evils, and one of the major causes of the Ummah's sufferings today. Due to love and obsession with the Dunyaa, people have feared death and disliked war. This is why it is mentioned alongside those two (fearing death and disliking war) in some Hadeeths. So these people sat back and waited for the Kaafir nations to overpower them.

Allaah Knows best.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
Posted by: Abu Dujanah - 11-26-2003, 10:48 AM - Forum: Learning Arabic - Replies (2)

as-Salaamu 3alaykum,

To count them in Arabic would take far longer, and have much more meaning…as an example of what is undoubtedly the singular most expressive and enchanting language on the face of the earth…the degrees of love in Arabic:

حُبٌّ Hubb Love; affection; inclination of the nature or natural disposition, towards a thing that pleases or delights;

The degrees of حُبّ are as follows:

first هَوىً hawaa, the “inclining of the soul, or mind;” also applied to the “object of love itself:”

then عَِلاقَةٌ alaaqah or 3ilaaqah, “love cleaving to the heart;” so termed because of the heart’s cleaving to the object of love:

then كَلَفٌ kalaf, “violent, or intense, love;” from كُلْفَةٌ Kulfah signifying “difficulty, or distress, or affliction:”

then عِشْقٌ ishq [“amorous desire:” or “passionate love;”] in the Sihaah “excess of love;” and in the language of the physicians, “a kind of melancholy:”

then شَغَفٌ shaghaf, “ardour of love, accompanied by a sensation of pleasure;” like لَوْعَةٌ law3ah and لاعِجٌ laa3ij; the former of which is “ardour of love;” and the latter, “ardent love:”

then جَوىً jawaa, “inward love;” and “violence of amorous desire,” or “of grief, or sorrow:”

then تَتَيُّمٌ tatayyum, “a state of enslavement by love:”

then تَبْلٌ tabl, “lovesickness;”

then وَلَهٌ walah, “distraction, or loss of reason, in love:”

and then هُيَامٌ huyaam, “a state of wandering about at random in consequence of overpowering love.”

One of the reasons I posted this is because it is especially interesting to know this, when you think of how Allaah has used some of these words in the Qur’an.

For example, He said about the wife of al-‘Aziz, قَدْ شَغَفَها حُبّاً qad shaghafahaa hubbaa. If you read the translation it says something like, “she loves him violently,” but you can tell just how intense her love was [note that looking up each of these words separately would give an even more detailed description of what they mean].

Also in Surah al-Naazi3aat, when Allaah says, وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى wa ammaa man khaafa maqaama rabbihi wa naha’n-nafsa 3ani’l-hawaa fa inna’l-jannata hiya’l-ma’waa

Again, the translation says: “But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires and lusts. Verily, Paradise will be his abode.”

But when you look at the word linguistically, you see that al-hawaa is just an inclination of the soul. I am not advocating taking only the linguistic meaning of words, because they often have different meanings when used in the Shari‘ah, but knowing the linguistic meaning just makes it all the more enriching.

Wallaahu a3lam.

  The Disease of Kibr (Pride)

Bismillah

As salam alaikum

This is from www.islaam.com

The Disease of Kibr (Pride)

Jamaal al-Din Zarabozo

Transcribed from a tape

"...The second characteristic that everyone has to be cautious of, but especially those people who are studying the `ilm, who have been given by Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta`aalaa), who have been blessed by Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta`aalaa) to have knowledge and to be making da`wah, these people have to be very careful about a disease that comes to people of this nature many times, unfortunately, and this is the disease of kibr, of arrogance and pride. And sometimes the way this is reflected is where the person refuses and does not want anyone to correct him, or at least he will not accept correction from certain people. Ya`nee he may accept correction or be told that he is wrong by someone who is from his group, someone who is a close friend of his, but anybody else, he will look down upon anyone else, and he will not accept any kind of criticism from anybody else, and this is kibr. This is pride and arrogance, as described in the hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam). The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said that no one who has even a mustard grain seed weight of kibr in his heart, no one who has this in his heart will enter Jannah.

Someone asked the Prohpet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), he said that a man loves to have nice clothing on, put nice shoes…, and he understood this is may kibr; the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, "Allaah is beautiful and loves beauty," ya`nee this is not kibr, but kibr is "to reject the truth and to look down upon the people", to reject the truth for example when it comes to you from the source you do not like, when it comes to you from someone perhaps who is not as much upon the right path as you think you are, and to look down upon other people and to disgrace them, this is kibr.

You have to realize that, I don’t care if you are the biggest `aalim in the world, you could make a mistake sometimes, that some child could come up to you and say, you know, that was a mistake. Al-Bukhaaree was just 11 or 12 years old the first time he corrected his shaykh.

This is something that we have to be very careful about especially as I said when we are involved in da`wah and in giving knowledge. Because it is really when one gets knowledge that he feels, who are you to talk to me,... don’t talk to me, you have a problem with me,... go talk to the ulamaa’, and have the ulamaa’ come and talk to me. This is a problem, and it is very dangerous unfortunately."

Jazakum Allah Khairun
