  'Ilm - Gotta Have it

'Ilm - Gotta Have it

By Muhammad Al-Shareef

Allah ta'ala blessed my wife and i with the opportunity to live in Madinah for 6 years. In the final year, during exam week, I came home from an exhausting 6 hours of exams and entered the apartment. My wife came in from our Muslim Bulgarian neighbors and said, "I have sad news." I saw in her face like her father had died. And I said, "What? What happened? Did your parents die?" She said, "No, Shaykh Bin Baz died today!"

I have never cried for the death of a family member more than I cried for Shaykh Bin Baz - Rahimahullah. He passed away on Thursday, and on Friday every Masjid in Saudi Arabia (thousands of Khateebs) gave their 1st Khutbah on the high status of the Uluma' and the 2nd khutbah on the life of Shaykh bin Baz.

I remember in Masjid Quba' in Madinah Munawarrah, it was one of the longest khutbahs that Shaykh Ismail gave. When he got to the 2nd Khutbah, and announced the death of...he started crying when he said, "Our beloved father..shaykh Abdul Aziz bin baz ..." There was not a dry eye in the entire Masjid of over 4000 people.

At home my wife had recorded the Khutbah at the Ka'bah, and listening to it later, the Imam of the Ka'bah had choked with tears when he said, "Our beloved father ... Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz.."

After the Khutbah, shaykh Bin Baz's Janaazah prayer was done at the Ka'bah. The radio announcer, who had so many times in the past done open Fiqh radio sessions with the shaykh, could not control himself on the radio, and you could not understand what he was saying because of his tears.

I saw at University, although it was final exam week, a student had written a Qaseedah (long arabic poem) about the Shaykh. It was interesting that all these students would put aside their exams to express their feelings.

Basic Problem: There is a need, a thirst, for knowledge but when the announcement is given that the water is here, we don't find our community driving to that water source. In sha Allah, today I want to speak a little about the importance of seeking knowledge and why it is a must for us.

v Surah Isra' 17/ 107-109:

Say: Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given knowledge before it - when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration. / And they say, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord has been fulfilled." / And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it (the Qur'an) increases them in humble submission.

Al-Hasan Al-Basree said about the one who learns and acts upon his knowledge: He is beloved by Allah, a friend of Allah, the cream of Allah's creation. Out of the inhabitants of the earth, he is the most precious to Allah. He answered Allah's call and invited others day and night to answer Allah's call and then did good. And he announces to the world, 'I am a Muslim'. This is the Khaleefah of Allah on earth.

v What is the hukm of studying Islam? Is it Fard, is it Makrooh, is it Haram? Let the Prophet - sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam - give us all the answer:

"Seeking knowledge is Fard (Compulsory, not an option) upon every single Muslim."

Many aspects of knowledge are Fard on every single Muslim. While others are Fard Fifaa'ee, if a portion of the community fulfills the need then the sin is absolved off the community, otherwise the entire community is sinful.

Ibn Al-Jawzee in his book Miftaah Daar as-Sa'aadah explains those aspects of knowledge which are Fard. He mentions five:

One: Usool al-Eemaan al-Khamsah

Two: Knowledge of the law of Islam, what is Fard is that which is Fard upon a person to perform: Such as Wudu, Salah, Siyaam, Hajj, Zakah, that which relates to it, each it's conditions and what negates the action.

Three: Knowledge of the Haram which all the prophets and laws and divine books agreed upon, as mentioned in verse 32 of Al-Araaf.

Four: Knowledge of the rules that govern human interaction, specifically (such as with one's spouse or children) and generally (like with general people). The Fard knowledge of this section differs in accordance with people's situations and responsibilities.

v They were not satisfied with what they knew:

Ibn Al-Jowzee said, "Let me tell you about my own situation. I am never content, saying to myself that I have read enough books. If I find a book which I haven't seen before, it is as if I have stumbled upon a pot of Gold."

v Dear brothers and sisters, it could be our very sins that hold us back from seeking this path of knowledge of what Allah and His Messenger are telling us:

Statement of Ibn Mas'ood:

I think that a person could forget the knowledge that he's learnt because of his sin.

In the book: Tabaqaat Al-Hanafiyyah 2/487:

And when Abu Haneefah had a question that he could not figure out, he would say to his students, "This forgetfulness is due to nothing other then a sin I have committed." So he would ask Allah ta'ala for forgiveness, or he might get up and pray, hoping that Allah would forgive him. Then when the issue would become clear to him, he would become happy and say, "It is my good news that perhaps Allah has forgiven me."

This was told to Al-Fudayl ibn Iyaad and he began to weep and commented, "This is because of the upright life that he lives. As for others, they would not realize this."

v They would spend their money in seeking this knowledge, it was not free:

Statement of Ali ibn 'Aasim page 177:

The scholar "Alee ibn Aasim" said, "(When I was young) My father gave me 100 thousand dirhams and said, 'Go, and do not come back until you have accumulated 100 thousand hadiths."

v They would ignite in happiness when they would learn something new:

From Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ahmad An-Nasafee went to sleep one night in sadness and depression due to the poverty and need and the debts that he owed. As he sat there, an issue of Fiqh which had caught him came to his mind and suddenly he knew the solution to it. So he jumped up in the middle of the darkness cheering and shouting "Ayn Al-Mulook!!" She asked him, what happened? He told her of the issue he just realized. And she was shocked, all this happiness even though they were in the state they were in.It took Abu Ubaid Qaasim ibn Salaam 40 years to write his book Ghareeb Al-Hadeeth. In explaining the days when he was writing the book, he says: Perhaps - while listening to some scholars - I may benefit one point from what they said and then hurry home to write it in the proper chapter of the book. After that I would spend the entire night with a grin on my face, in utter happiness because of that point I just benefited.

* Nawawee didn't have the knowledge just evaporate into his head. Imam Nawawee's story on page 81 as a quote/ the classes he took.

In his schooling days, he used to attend 12 Halaqahs or classes every day.

Story of past: Baqee ibn Mikhlad al-Andalusee page 74 in Siyar A'laam an-Nubulaa'

- walked from Al-Andalus by foot to Iraq in the year 221

- near Iraq: "I heard of what had happened to Imam Ahmad, how he had been forbidden from giving classes.

- Extremely sad

- met him, told him I was from Al-Maghrib al-Aqsa - Afreeqiyyah? - no further.

- He told him to pretend he was a beggar and come to his house every night. I'll tell you a hadith or two. But don't come to any public classes or hang out with students of knowledge.

- In those weeks Baqee gathered and learned over 300 hadith.

- AlKhaleefah alMutawakkil saved imam ahmad, and then he would make room for me in the halaqah and say: This is the definition of a true student of knowledge, and then he would tell them my story.

Part 2:

Lazyboy:

An icon of our lifestyle. We are mesmerized with entertainment, shows and games and amusement parks. In Makkah, there was an entertainment place and the people correctly translated: Naadee at-Tarfeeh as Distraction club instead of amusement.

What excuse will we have when the reason we did not learn the deen and pass it on to our next generation is that we were too busy watching tv? Or that we were engrossed in games? Is that why we were created?

v The fight with Shaytaan

Surah Saad 38/82-83 [iblees said, "By your might, I will surely mislead them all / Except, among them, your chosen servants.]

It's a fact Shaytaan want's to mislead us all - away from Islam, away from knowledge of the Deen.

v Let me tell you about three of his greatest weapons:

One: Sowfa (intresting it's not a Lazyboy) I'll do it tomorrow - until he finally says, 'if I could do it all again I would have taken the path of knowledge.'

Two: Making a person think that he'll study sometime in the future. In the summer, after University, after I get married, after I have a million dollars, a wife that loves me, and 10 beautiful kids … After I'm dead.Three: That one's life is not upright and they are not worthy of studying.

It is the knowledge that will make us all straight. It is the one who knows Allah that fears Him.v You say: Ok, I'm going to sign up for Islamic classes, but what's in it for me?

1. Know that there is paramount reward from Allah ta'ala for those who seek knowledge sincerely for His sake and pass it on to others.

2. Know that the knowledge you pass on, you will receive reward from it even after you are dead, the reward lives on

3. Know that this knowledge is the inheritance from the Prophets. Go and take your share.

4. Know that you will bask in happiness when the cloud of ignorance is raised from our heads

Our Enemies They Are Not

Mark Glenn, mglenn@atrueword.com

When the scouts returned, reporting that Edward the Longshanks had hired Irish mercenaries in his attempt to defeat Scottish rebels fighting for their independence, Hamish, William Wallace’s right hand man asked in a puzzled way “Irish? What’re they duin’ faytin’ wit the English?” Stephen, the Irishman who had long before joined in the cause of Scottish liberation and knowing something about the Irish mindset replied confidently “Don’t worry about the Irish!” His prediction was right, for that day, as the Scottish and the Irish charged at each other, spears and swords drawn in what was expected to be a hideous battle of the oppressed fighting the oppressed, instead, halted their mad dash 100 feet short of clashing into one other, and after recognizing that they were all brothers thirsting for the same freedom and justice, thus began embracing each other on a battlefield which was planned by the English to have been the very place wherein they would have hacked each other to pieces.

Such were the events famously presented in Mel Gibson’s movie Braveheart. How much of this particular scene was historically accurate is not important here, but rather the point which was made, namely a moving-picture adaptation of an old saying which still reverberates in many Middle Eastern societies which is “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” We in America would do well to consider this phrase for ourselves, for we are in a situation very similar to the above described scene in the movie, although most are unaware of it, in that we are like the Irish mercenaries in Braveheart who have been hired to slaughter a people for the benefit of someone else more powerful and more devious than we imagine.

We are told and have been on a daily basis since September 11 that the peoples of the Middle East are our enemies, that they are terrorists with no regard for human life, and that they hate us for our freedom and for our Christian values. The fact that this fiction has gained such wide acceptance by the American public is puzzling, given the that in recent years a good portion of the population had developed a healthy sense of skepticism with regards to a government and media which they knew couldn’t be trusted. Adding to this puzzling situation is the fact that these same skeptics came to understand with equal clarity that the real threat posed to America came not from without, but rather from within.

The truth is that we in America are now subjected to a propaganda extravaganza that is rivaled in its intensity by only a few events which have infamously occurred throughout human history, from Rome’s obsessionist desire for the destruction of Carthage to Adolph Hitler’s attempted destruction of his own enemies, and in points which parallel the above mentioned cases, the new Rome, America, has embarked upon a program of wiping out not just a country, (as in the case of Carthage) but an entire civilization and culture, as was attempted by Hitler.

There are, of course, those who will cheer such a program in much the same way that they cheer during a pro-wrestling match. It seems to escape their consideration that the entire affair may be just a charade created for their amusement and distraction, as well as for the obvious intention of separating them from their money while simultaneously separating them from their ability to reason. Such is the reality of every culture, from the mob who came to Rome to watch the daily fights between the gladiators to those individuals who today have reduced themselves into a frothing, maniacal group of “patriotic” spectators who have come to enjoy the bestial aspects of blood sport, whether it is in the ring or on the battlefield.

But despite what our government/media complex tells us, the enemy of America is not to be found in the caves of Afghanistan or in the sands of Iraq. We do not need to fear that any true harm will come to us by such a group of people thousands of miles away. As President Abraham Lincoln once noted, America as a nation was impregnable to invasion and defeat by an outside foe, and were she ever to fall it would be due to the destruction caused to her from within. No, rather the real enemy is to be found right here, in those individuals who wield power and influence and who work tirelessly against us in the executive offices and meeting rooms located in New York and Washington DC. Our enemy doesn’t speak with a funny accent or wear funny clothes, but rather the expensive suits worn by gangsters who disguise themselves as media executives and as politicians. But there is one thing the media/government complex did accurately portray, which is the fact that our enemy hates us for our Christian values, and that he has no regard for human life.

For who is our real enemy? Someone who flies planes into buildings? Someone who poisons our mail system with tainted letters? Assuming that these crimes were committed by Middle Easterners (all evidence to the contrary not withstanding) they fall way short of the crimes that are committed against us not every two or three years, but rather every minute of everyday. Do these “terrorists” from the Middle East rob us of half our livelihood, or steal our property and liberty if we don’t give it over to them willingly? Do they come into our homes in the middle of the night, dressed in black, sticking guns in the faces of our wives and children while they haul us away for speaking out against them? Do they take our children from us when we refuse to enroll them in a public school system which is not only dangerous to them physically but morally as well?

And while we should remember with agony the day on which all our countrymen died in the inferno that engulfed the Twin Towers, in similar fashion we should remember all our countrymen who have perished in similar circumstances deliberately brought about by the same government which now seeks to demonize those in the Middle East, circumstances no less terroristic in their methods or approach as those highlighted for us on the news everyday. Lest we forget, it was our own home-grown terrorists who, one day in North Idaho, shot a 10 year old boy in the back and then blew the head off of that boy’s mother as she stood in her doorway holding a 9 month old baby. A year or so later, these same men burned and gassed to death almost 100 men, women and children in Texas, and in reward for both of these atrocities, received medals of honor for their bravery. No one went to jail for these acts of terror committed against Americans on their own soil. And, in the interest of keeping things in perspective we should remember as well that the terrorists of the Middle East who are credited with exterminating 4,000 Americans on September 11 accomplished the same kind of mass murder which is done everyday in this country through the butchery of infanticide, also a gift from a government whom we pay to protect us.

The truth of the matter is, it can arguably be said that we do not have a good handle on who the real terrorists are.

When we speak of “we” and “us” here, we should be more precise in our language of just about whom we are speaking. As is to be expected, there are and forever will be those individuals in our society who are just along for the ride and do not care, individuals who will inaccurately gauge America’s greatness with the amount of wealth and comfort they possess. Rather, I am referring to those other individuals who recognize that America’s greatness can only exist while virtue is maintained, and that the real danger which threatens our existence is to be found in the destruction of our morals and decency, which, if destroyed, will inevitably bring about the loss of all order, and by default, the loss of all liberty. Although often ridiculed by the “free-thinkers” and secularists among us, this abandonment of the laws which govern moral behavior nevertheless poses as serious a threat to our existence as does any deadly virus which has penetrated the body’s defenses. It works its destruction slowly but surely, and oftentimes leaves the body in such a state which is impossible to repair. We need look no further for proof of this than in history, in that the destruction of some of the world’s greatest civilizations has come about as a result of implementation of the exact same processes.

Over the last decade, there was reason for optimism in this nation due to the fact that a great movement of public opinion had taken place in coming to terms with America’s descent into moral oblivion, mainly due to the fact that the rising tide of decadence became so comfortable in its exposure to the light of day. And in the spirit of that public awareness to this problem, there were those who, after becoming understandably alarmed by the approaching storm, took up arms against the leviathan that is the media/government complex and began to see the perfectly logical association between a society’s loss of moral values and its loss of liberty. During the 90’s, when the horrors of Partial-Birth Abortion were made known to all, and the explosion of hard-core pornography on the internet and softcore pornography on primetime tv signaled that the head of the Beast had proudly reared itself up for all to see, many Americans began to focus on the sinking ship known as American morality and sought ways to either plug up the holes or evacuate.

But all of that seemed to have changed on September 11.

Now, the clarity with which concerned Americans recognized the danger posed to their nation and to their way of life by a degenerate set of social values (values which have never and will never remain dormant) suddenly became cloudy in the aftermath of that day. In one horrible and fantastic instant, the enemy changed from someone domestic to someone foreign, to a group of people who live in far away caves and who wear funny clothes and speak with a foreign accent and who hate us for our freedom and our values. What these concerned Americans did not and do not realize even now was that on that day a great bait & switch tactic had taken place right before their eyes, one which was done so quickly and cleverly as to escape their notice.

No, America. The Middle East is not where our enemies lie. At least, it wasn’t. It was where our best friends were, for in being the enemy of my enemy, they became our friends.

When we come to the realization that our real enemies are those individuals who are responsible for the destruction of all the laws governing the morals of our society, laws which are necessary for any society of people that considers itself to be civil, we then can better appreciate why there is so much mistrust and animosity towards America in that region of the world. After all, in our analysis of the source of anti-Americanism in that region, we must note that these countries which are deemed to be our enemies have not yet enshrined the likes of Pamela Anderson, Brittany Spears, or Christine Aguilera into the halls of sainthood as have we here in the West.

To their own credit, theirs is a society which does not allow their unborn citizens to be murdered in the millions per year, nor does it allow their women to be abused and exploited by the pornography industry which enslaves not only those being filmed but as well those who are its purveyors. When we consider the fact that they do not allow the status of the nuclear family to be denigrated by the inclusion and acceptance of institutionalized sodomy or same-sex marriage, as well as the refusal to have their children scandalized by the pornographic education that children here in America receive, suddenly this mystery of Middle East antagonism for the West becomes less and less of a riddle. In all the charges which are leveled against these people, it is forgotten that they have been champions in opposing these things in their societies, as well as rejecting the wholesale assault on religion that we have come to accept and tolerate here in the West. There are no art exhibits to be found among the “enemies of Christianity” in the Middle East which depict a crucifix being emersed into a jar of urine, nor films depicting Christ as a homosexual whose mother works in an abortion clinic. They do not have public parades wherein men and women march in the nude down through the center of the city and perform sexual acts for all to see under the sanction of a government which is supposed to enforce existing laws concerning decency. Their courts do not take extra-legal measures in striking down laws which prohibit the same cancers which have grabbed the West by the throat from entering their societies, measures that are constantly justified by their perpetrators here in the West with complicated legal theories which in essence do not exist. And in our weighing of these facts, we should, rather than hold the peoples of the Middle East in suspicion and derision, instead look upon them with admiration and respect for having refused to allow these practices into their communities.

In our acknowledgment of all those who would scoff at the arguments listed here as to why the societies in the Middle East should be viewed in such favorable terms, it should as well be noted and remembered that scoffing individuals such as these do not view America’s slide into moral oblivion to be anything noteworthy or worrisome. In fact, more often than not, they openly embrace such decadence and haughtiness against the laws of nature and of nature’s God, and in this light, their thoughts should not be weighed with any undue consideration.

The reality of the matter is that we here in the West are members of a dying civilization, despite all of the assurances to the contrary which we are given by pundits who refuse to acknowledge this unavoidable truth. Our death is a degenerative condition which is the result of our willingness to engage in suicidal tendencies, and which will not be cured by any measure of technology, industry, or craftiness that we may possess. The social ills that at one time were but small sores which erupted every great while have now consumed the body, so weakened have its defenses become, and those individuals responsible for this death and decay are now attempting in like manner to infect other societies not yet sickened as such. For this reason, they (all the while disguising their designs in the language of noble ideas such as freedom and prosperity) are striving for the annihilation of a culture which has resisted such attacks on their morals, a culture which has openly refused to sink into the abyss of moral oblivion that afflicts us here in the West, a culture that in many ways has surpassed the West in its quality, despite Rush Limbaugh’s assertion that they are a backwards people for having never developed a car of their own.

To what other conclusion are we supposed to arrive besides this? For those of us who understand the concept that America’s loss of morals and decency ranks at the top of the list of dangers which threatens her existence, how then can we not say that in comparison to the culture of those living in the Middle East that theirs is not the superior? They have stable families. They have stable social order. They do not murder their children at the rate of millions per year. They do not have divorce rates over 50%. Theirs is not a society flooded with pornography and all the ills that inevitably tag along for the ride. For those who blindly allow themselves to be swelled up with pride over America’s greatness (a greatness which in reality is shallow and perceived to be so by mere illusion) they should recognize that indeed the spirit of the American Revolution is alive and well, but not here in the West where it began. Rather, it is to be found in the Middle East, whose peoples would not shrink away from their duty in rising up and overthrowing any government which attempted to impose such outrages upon them. And as for those who call themselves Christians, individuals who will maintain that these tendencies which are rooted in the healthy and justifiable interest of self-preservation are only superficial qualities, given the fact that the religion of Islam is the predominant faith in those regions, we would have to respond with one big “so what?” Results are what matter, or to borrow a phrase from that very same Book which they use to denigrate such peoples, “a good tree produces good fruit.” With this is mind, these individuals must be intellectually honest enough to admit that having produced good fruit indicates that the societies of the Middle East must therefore be good trees.

When we come to understand wherein lies the real battle for the survival of our nation and our way of life, we will then understand how to read between the lines of the propaganda that we are fed everyday. The architects of our enslavement and destruction are desperate in their desire to prevent at all costs any friendship from developing between those of us here in the West who recognize where our real danger lies and those in the Middle East who are fellow travelers, and as such we will be told incessantly, as we have, that these people are our enemies.

But our enemies they are not. With regards to America’s real enemies, namely those parasites within our society who have seduced America and the West into accepting the slow-death of national and cultural suicide, those in the Middle East are the best friends we could ask for, and we would do well to learn from what they know and apply it to our own situation. After all, they must know something, given the fact that theirs is a culture which has remained intact for thousands of years.

And in like manner, as the Scots and the Irish prepared to slaughter each other under the gaze of those directors who stood comfortably away from all danger on a far away hilltop, watching and waiting for the events to take place which they put in motion for the furtherance of their own greedy and lustful desires, we should take pause as did the warriors that day at the battle of Falkirk and recognize in like fashion that those people living in the land where Western Civilization began are fighting for the same things as are we, namely the right to live and to live in decency, and in consideration of this fact, we should come to terms with the reailty that our enemies they are not, but rather brothers and sisters who deserve our friendship and our alliance, an alliance which, if some of the prophecies prove to be correct, may actually turn the tide for mankind’s existence.

The story of Adam and Eve (Hawwa)
Posted by: Muslimah - 07-18-2003, 08:53 AM - Forum: Islam - Replies (1)

The story of Adam and Eve (Hawwa) [Peace be upon them] (3)

Ahadith about the Creation of Adam

Imam Ahmad has narrated from Abu Musa [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him], who said that the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] said:

“Allah has created Adam from a handful (soil) which He had gathered from all over the earth. That is how the children of Adam came according to the (colour and nature of the) earth. There are white among them, as well as red and black, and cross colours. There are those among them who are of bad nature and good nature, soft as well as harsh and in between.”

Allah the Almighty created Adam with His Hand so that Iblis should not display any arrogance. So He created him a human, and he remained as an earthen body for forty years. When angels passed by and saw him, they became frightened. Iblis was the most frightened among them. He would pass by him and hit him, and the body would make a sound like the sound of pottery with a rattle. It is this which Allah has mentioned in this Verse:

”…from a clay, like pottery.” (55:14)

Iblis said: There must be something for which he is created. He would enter through his mouth and come out by his anus. He said to the angels: “Do not be frightened of it, because your Lord is solid (Samad) and this is hollow. If I overpower him I will destroy him.”

When the time approached in which Allah wanted to breathe “into him the soul which He created for him,” He said to the angels: “When I have breathed the soul in him, you should prostrate before him.” When He breathed “into him the soul,” and the soul passed through to his head, Adam sneezed. The angels said: “Say: Alhamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah).” So he said: : “Alhamdu lillah.” Allah said afterwards: “Rahimaka Rabbuka (May your Lord have mercy upon you).” When the soul entered into his eyes, he saw the fruits of the Paradise, and when it entered into his stomach, he desired for food. Adam jumped up in haste for the fruits of the Paradise before the soul even entered into his legs. That is what Allah indicated to in this Verse:

“Man is created of haste.” (21:37)

Anas [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] said that the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] said:

“When Allah created Adam, He left him for a while as long He wanted him to be. Iblis went around him, and when he found him hollow he knew that he was a creature who could not restrain.” (Sahih Muslim)

Anas [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] has also narrated from the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] who said:

“When He breathed into Adam and the soul reached into his head, he sneezed and said: ‘ Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil-‘Alamin (Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds),’ Allah answered him by saying: ‘Yarhamuk-Allah (May Allah bestow His Mercy upon you)’.” (Sahih of Ibn Hibban)

Abu Hurairah [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] has narrated that the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] said:

“When Allah created Adam, He stroked with His Hand over his back. So all the souls which were due to be born in his progeny until the Day of Judgement, came out of his back. In front of the eyes of every human He made a shining light and put them before Adam. Adam said: ‘O Lord! Who are they?’ He replied: ‘ They are your progeny.’ He saw a man among them whose shining light attracted him. Adam asked: ' O Lord! Who is this? ' Allah answered him: ‘He is a man who will come in the last of your progeny, and who will be called David (Dawood).’ He asked Him: ‘O Lord! How much have You granted him of his age?’ Allah said: ‘Sixty years.’ Adam asked Allah: 'O Lord! Grant him from my age forty years more.' (Ad-Darimi )

Abu Hurairah [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] has also narrated that the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] said:

“Allah created Adam, and he was sixty Dhira’a tall, and then said to him: 'Go and great those angels, and listen what they greet you back. Because that will be your greeting and the greeting of your progeny.' Adam said: 'Assalamu 'Alaikum.'’They greeted him back by saying: 'Assalamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.' So Adam also added in it 'wa Rahmatullah.'’So whoever enters the Paradise, will enter it in Adam's image, and since that time human are being reduced in their height till now.” (Sahih Bukhari )

Imam Malik says in his book Mu’atta that ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] was asked regarding this Verse:

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes! We testify, lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: Verily, we have been unaware of this.. (7:172)

‘Umar [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him ] said: I have heard the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] being asked about this Verse and he replied:

“Allah created Adam, then He stroke upon his back with His Right Hand and took out from it some of his progeny and said: 'I have created all of them for Paradise, and they will be doing the deeds of those who deserve Paradise.' Then He stroke upon his back again and took out the rest of his progeny, and said: 'They are created for Hell and will be doing the deeds of those who deserve the Hell’'." A companion said: "O Messenger of Allah! Then what is a deed for?" The Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] replied: "When Allah creates a person for Paradise, He facilitates for him to do the deeds of the people of Paradise, till he dies on those deeds and so Allah enters him in Paradise for those deeds. And when He creates a person for Hell, He facilitates for him to do the deeds of the people of Hell, till he dies on those deeds and so Allah enters him in the Hell for those deeds.” (Mu’atta of Malik, and also see At-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and An-Nasa'i )

And Imam Ahmad has narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas [Radi-Allahu-anhu: May Allah be pleased with him], who said that the Prophet [sallalahu-'alahi-wa-sallam] said:

“Allah took the covenant from the back of Adam (Peace be upon him) on the Day of ‘Arafah. He took out from his back all his progeny He created, and scattered them in front of Him and spoke to them saying: 'Am I not your Lord?' They said: 'Yes indeed, we bear witness,' lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: 'Surely we were unaware of this.'’Or lest you say: 'Our fathers before us ascribed partners to Allah, and we were only descendants after them, will “You then destroy us for what those who have followed falsehood have done.” (7:172,173)

A thought to share with all of u

Praise be to Allah Who guided us to this and if it was not for Him we wouldn’t have been guided prayer and peace be upon His Messenger Mohamed Ibn Abdullah.

I had a thought to share with all my brothers and sister here, could not keep it to myself.

As usual Alhamdulelah we see Allah’s Power and Wisdom manifest in almost each step we take. Let us take our experience with Whisper, who came into this forum as David to start with. He came into this forum willingly but with a single goal which he openly expressed in [u:bcd3d26f42][b:bcd3d26f42]this thread[/b:bcd3d26f42][/u:bcd3d26f42][/color:bcd3d26f42], to have us denounce the Quran. He spared no effort or time using every possible means from provoking, bad language, harsh attitude, etc as u all observed. In many times he openly insulted Allah and Islam (we seek refuge from him and similar others). In return Alhamdulelah we practiced patience, tried to provide answers when he had questions which he rarely did. Then we had to start locking topics when it came to Allah. We can not continue to be held accountable. Suddenly he decided to victimize himself. He posted a sad sounding topic saying he is leaving. Frankly speaking, at that moment we had banned him. But Allah Did not want the ban to work at that time. He had to come back as u all saw, claim that he defeated Muslims in this forum as in others, bragging about his work even in atheist forums. While Allah was preparing for him a clear and strong defeat. As He said in the Noble Quran:

“Remember how the unbelievers plotted against thee, to keep thee in bonds, or slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). they plot and plan, and Allah too plans, but the best of planners is Allah.” (Quran 8:30)

It was when he decided to challenge Allah and involve himself with brother Twister who saw the light and Alhamdulelah landed safely on the shore. He witnessed his own defeat and fell just quite.

As for us “it was Allah: when thou threwest (a handful of dust), it was not thy act, but Allah's” (Quran 8:17).

So Allah Did not allow us to ban him earlier so that he comes back and witnesses his own defeat. He challenged Allah. And this is just the beginning for him.

Brothers and sisters do u see in this what I saw. I sincerely hope I was able to convey the message.

May Allah allow victory to His Deen and keep us all fixed on the correct path.

Praise be to Allah and prayer and peace be upon His Messenger Mohamed

  A Funny Joke.................
Posted by: AhmedSyed - 07-17-2003, 08:07 AM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Assalamualkum wa rahamatullahi wa barakatahu

Brothers and Sisters i just wanna relay a joke my father told me he got on his email, u might have heard it. I'll try recalling it to the best of my memory.

THE AIRPORT

During the hustle and bustle of the afternoon rush at the JFK airport, two men are talking to each other while a muslim is sitting near by reading a newspaper.

[b:cec0727099]Carl:So hey, where did u wanna plan ur vacation to?

Roger:I think it was to China.

Carl:China?! But that place has too many muslims![/b:cec0727099]

The muslim man sitting nearby flinches, and trys to conceal the fact that he hears the other men near by.

[b:cec0727099]Roger:I guess so.[/b:cec0727099]

He then turns his attention to the comic section and something comes to mind.

[b:cec0727099]Roger:What do u think about...Turkey? I heard Istanbul is wo-

Carl:What?! Are u kidding me? That place is full of muslims![/b:cec0727099]

The muslims nearby now gets really uncomfortable and coughs. He thinks about saying something polite but chokes it down.

[b:cec0727099]Roger:Ah! Now i've got it! Ill go to Indonesia!I heard the senery there is to die for!!

Carl, now obviously disturbed, looks at Roger and stares dumbly at him trying to figure out what is up with him.

Carl:Indonesia! That place is infested with Muslims!![/b:cec0727099]

[b:cec0727099]The muslim man now gets up and proclames loudly.

Muslim man: Why don't you go to hell!? There aren't any muslims there!![/b:cec0727099]

Morals of the story: For one thing, we can tell that the muslim man reacted in away that was totally uncalled for and is against Islam. Remeber, we are all brothers, a muslim is not above a non-muslim or vice versa, only in piety can each be measured. He should have politely asked the other man to stop talking in this disgraceful manner. Now, not only do the men have a bad impression of muslims, they are beginning to despise Islam worse then they had before (thanks to the bad actions of one muslim). Brothers and sisters, we must think of ourselfs as actors (we are constantly on a stage for the large portions of our lives) we must set a good standard and always remember that what we do, influences others, if the man had been kind to him and asked him to stop and tried to come to common ground w/ Carl, then i think that he would have understood and might even be interested in Islam.

I once heard a speaker at Ramadan 2001 say that Islam has been rudely pushed into centerstage, "for all to poke, probe, debate, and ponder what the meaning of it is". "And what do actors do, when it is their moment?", he paused and with a smile he replied, "They shine".

Remeber Allah SWT guides whomever he wills, so lets act as catalysts and speed up the process. (a little science joke there)

Thanks for the time you took to read this. Peace.

  Overpopulation: Myths, Facts, and Politics

[b:8c94cfb934]Overpopulation: Myths, Facts, and Politics[/b:8c94cfb934][/color:8c94cfb934]

[i:8c94cfb934]By Abid Ullah Jan

Posted: 9 Jamad-ul-Awwal 1424, 9 July 2003[/i:8c94cfb934]

The UN is all set to observe yet another World Population Day on July 11, 2003. In developing countries, the day is "observed" with great fanfare and the highest-level government officials issue strong statements in favor of depopulation programs. An army of journalists in the press and electronic media further support them without paying any attention to the underlying realities.

To facilitate understanding, one needs to find out whether overpopulation is a reality and whether it is the real reason for poverty and underdevelopment. If we discover that what the media, textbooks and other means of communication tell us is not true, we then need to ponder what, in fact, are the real objectives of the sponsors of depopulation.

[b:8c94cfb934]Is overpopulation a reality?[/b:8c94cfb934]

Over the years many researchers have authentically proved that the problem is not too many people at all. Contrary to the claims of family planning and population control specialists, world population growth is rapidly declining. United Nations figures show that the 79 countries that comprise 40 percent of the world's population now have fertility rates too low to prevent population decline. The rate in Asia fell from 2.4 in 1965-70 to 1.5 in 1990-95. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the rate fell from 2.75 in 1960-65 to 1.70 in 1990-95. In Europe, the rate fell to 0.16 - that is, effectively zero - in 1990-95. And the annual rate of change in world population fell from 2 percent in 1965-70 to less than 1.5 percent in 1990-95. Official forecasts of eventual world population size have been steadily falling. In 1992-93, the World Bank predicted world population would exceed 10 billion by the year 2050. In 1996, the U.N. predicted 9 billion for 2050. If the trend continues, the next estimate will be lower still.

Overpopulation is a relative term. Over with respect to what? Food? Resources? Living space? The data show that no case can be made for overpopulation with respect to all three variables. Dr. Osterfeld, Professor of Political Science at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, concludes that although there are now more people in the world than ever before,

Quote:"by any meaningful measure the world is actually becoming relatively less populated."[/quote:8c94cfb934]It is true that the world has been experiencing a population increase that began in the eighteenth century. Population rose six-fold in the next 200 years. But this is an increase not explosion because it has been accompanied, and in large part made possible, by a productivity explosion, a resource explosion, a food explosion, an information explosion, a communications explosion, a science explosion, and a medical explosion. The result is that the six-fold increase in world population is dwarfed by the eighty-fold increase in world output during the same 200 year period.
