Just Felt To Share This With My Brothers And Siste
Posted by: Muslimah - 10-22-2004, 09:30 AM - Forum: Ramadan - Replies (16)

as salam alykom

Ramadan in Egypt has a very special taste. I guess like it does in every other spot of the world. Sobhan Allah, there are some traditions to express the advent of Ramadan that starts taking place one week alomst before the month. For example, lanterns are sold so that children lit them and play in the evening. During my childhood, they were lit by a candle, we used to get those nice colorful small lanterns in which we install a candle and go around the house repeating a certain nasheed. Now they make them with bubls. In the small low class areas, people set very local and traditional ovens to make something called kunafa and Qatayef (special kinds of dough made in the form of small panckes or long thing threads). Of this kunafa and qatayef people make sweets that are only consumed during Ramadan. Also small stores start making special outlets to sell fava beans which is usually eatern for Suhur. Not only this but street peddlers go around midnight to sell fava beans. what really brings joy to my heart is when stores decorate their facad with small lights in preparation for the month and expressing joy for this blessed month.

Sobhan Allah

Insh a Allah on my next post I will tell u how was it during Umrah in Ramadan

Agents search local Islamic relief group

By KELLY WIESE, Associated Press

http://www.columbiamissourian.com/news/s...hp?ID=9927

October 13, 2004

[see full size image] FBI agents participate in a raid at the offices of the Islamic American Relief Agency at 201 E. Cherry in Columbia. Twelve different law-enforcement agencies took part in the raid, including local police departments, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. (SHAUNA BITTLE/Missourian)

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Federal and local law enforcers were searching the Islamic American Relief Agency on Wednesday as part of what the FBI described generically as a criminal investigation.

The search of the Columbia office occurred as the Bush administration accused the Sudan-based Islamic African Relief Agency of helping finance Osama bin Laden and other terrorists.

The Treasury Department directed U.S. banks to block any assets found in this country belonging to the Islamic African Relief Agency and five designated officials. The department said the group, headquartered in Khartoum, Sudan, has more than 40 offices worldwide, including one in Columbia.

People wearing FBI outfits carried computers, cardboard boxes and file cabinets out of the Islamic group's Columbia office and loaded the equipment into a white van and U-Haul truck. Among those participating in the search was a man wearing a jacket of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

FBI spokesman Jeff Lanza would not say whether the search was connected to terrorism. He also declined to characterize the investigation, saying the federal search warrant remained under seal.

``No one's being detained, and no one has been arrested,'' Lanza said.

The search began around 2:30 p.m. and involved 11 law enforcement agencies, Lanza said. FBI agents also were searching a Columbia home, Lanza said. He declined to elaborate.

The Islamic nonprofit group was formed in 1985, according to its Web site, and among other things provides emergency relief to refugees in Afghanistan. The group also promotes aid efforts in such places as Iran, Ethiopia, Mali and Bosnia. It is located near downtown Columbia, not far from the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The group's Web site offers the chance to sponsor an overseas orphan ($30 a month will provide a one-on-one sponsorship). The Islamic organization also provides vocational training and primary health care, including immunizations, nutrition counseling, prenatal care, infection disease prevention and clean water supplies, according to its Web site.

No one answered a phone call Wednesday at the Islamic American Relief Agency.

The U.S. Agency for International Development, which provides disaster or poverty aid to nations, awarded the Islamic American Relief Agency about $4.2 million in contracts in the 1990s for relief projects in northern Mali, USA Today reported in September 2001. The contracts were canceled in November 2000, when then-Undersecretary of State Thomas Pickering wrote that continuing them ``would be contrary to the national defense and foreign policy interest of the United States.''

The Treasury Department alleged that the overseas branches of the Islamic African Relief Agency and five of its officials — all listed as being outside the United States — provided ``hundreds of thousands of dollars'' to bin Laden in 1999. Treasury also believes that as early as 2003 the group was responsible for moving money to the Palestinian territories to support terrorist activities and served ``as a conduit to Hamas in one Western European country.''

 The Prophet's Name
Posted by: Islam is the truth - 10-20-2004, 11:45 PM - Forum: Discussion of Beliefs - Replies (4)

The Prophet’s Name

The Hebraic Versions of Torah still carry the name of Muhammad without ambiguity. In the song of songs, chapter 5,Verse 16,we read:

Which means: “ His speech is the most pleasant. He is the Great Muhammad, this is my beloved, and this my friend.” The Hebraic word clearly indicates the name of Muhammad but Jews and Christians refuse to admit that and insist that it is not a proper name but an epithet describing the Prophet, claiming that it means “altogether lovely”.

“His mouth is most sweet; yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved and this is my friend.”

Then, who can be described as having all virtuous characteristics but Muhammad, the great Prophet, Allah’s beloved and favored Messenger?

In the New Testament, the Prophet’s name occurs in several positions. In the Book of John 16:7, we read Jesus’ words while addressing his Disciples:

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the comforter (“periclytos” in Greek) will not come unto you.”

The word “comforter” is translated from the Greek word “paracletos” which had been used to replace the original word “periclytos” meaning “Muhammad” or “Ahmad” in Arabic. The two Greek utterances have little difference in pronunciation as well as in spelling; therefore, the scribes could have easily used one word for the other in some versions. Jews and Christians have preferred the corrupted version to the true one.

There is a Gospel known by the name the Gospel of Barnabas, which the church banned in 492 AD by the order of Pope Gelasius. It was confiscated everywhere. But there was still a copy of that Gospel in the library of Pope Sixtus V. Fortunately a certain Roman Monk called Framarino managed to bring it out. He had found the letters of Ireneus, where the came upon the name of the Gospel of Barnabas mentioned as a reference. His curiosity urged him to look for that gospel. When he became a close friend to Pope Sixtus V, he got that copy of the gospel and found in it that there would come a time when it would be claimed that Jesus is Allah’s son, and this misconception would continue till Muhammad, Allah’s Messenger comes, to set things right.

In the Gospel of Barnabas, (220:4), we read: “And this mocking shall continue until the advent of Muhammad the Messenger of God, who, when he shall come, shall reveal this deception to those who believe in God’s Law.”

Framarino was converted to Islam and published among people this Gospel, which the church had opposed.

The name of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) has clearly been mentioned in the scriptures of Jews and Christians throughout history. Muslim scholars used to use this fact in their disputes with the priests and learned Jews.

In the Book of Isaiah, we read: “I make your name Muhammad. O Muhammad, the holy one of the Lord! Your name has been there always.” This quotation is taken from “Al-Din wa Al-Dawala” written by ‘Ali ibn Raban Al-Tabari (who had been Christian and then embraced Islam). He died in 247 AH.

We read, in the Book of the Isaiah also: “We heard, from the extremes of earth, the voice Of Muhammad.”

In the Book of Habakkuk, we read : “God came from Tayman, the Holy one from the Mount of Paran. Mohammed’s splendor has covered the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise.” That is also mentioned in “Al-Din wa Al-Dawlah” of Ali ibn Raban al Tabari. It is also mentioned by Ibrahim Khalil Ahmad, previously a Christian priest who embraced Islam later and included the above Verse in a book he wrote in 1409 AH.

In Isaiah also we read : “What I will give him will not be given to anyone else. Ahmad will praise Allah newly. He comes from the best land; the wilderness and its inhabitants will rejoice. They will celebrate the Oneness of Allah at every elevated place and glorify Him on every hill.”

This is mentioned by Abdullah Al-Turjuman, whose name had been Anslam Tormida. He had been a Spanish priest before he was converted to Islam. He died in 832 AH.

Jubayr ibn Mut’im said: “ I heard Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) saying: ‘I have various names: I am Muhammad, and I am Ahmad, and I am Al-Mahi with whom Allah obliterates disbelief, and I am Al-Hashir at whose feet people will be gathered, and I am Al-‘Aqib.’’’ Allah (SWT) says: (And Remember, the son of Mary, said: ‘ O children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah (sent to you) confirming the Torah (which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me whose name shall be Ahmad.’ When he came to them with clear signs, they said, ‘ This is evident sorcery.’)(61:6)

Professor Abdul-Ahad Dawud Al-Ashuri, the former archbishop of Mosul, who was converted to Islam, says (in his book “Muhammad in the Bible”): “The statement popular among Christians: “Glory be to Allah in the heavens and peace be on earth and happiness be among people” was originally: “Glory be to Allah in the heavens, Islam be on earth, and Muhammad is for people.”

The name of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) occurred in the Hindu Scriptures. In the Sama Veda, we read: “Ahmad acquired Shari’ah (religion law) from his Lord. This Shari’ah is full of wisdom. I receive light from him just as from the sun.”

In Athrava Veda (another Hindu Scripture), Kanda 20, Sukia 127, Mantra 1-3, we read: “O people! Listen to this carefully! Muhammad will be raised among people…. His greatness will be praised even in paradise and it will be subjected to him, and he is the Muhammad.”

In Bhawishya Purana (another Hindu scripture ) parv 3, Khand 3, Adhya 3 , Shalok 5-8, we read: “Just then an illiterate man with the epithet Teacher, Muhammad by name, comes only with his companions. The angel will purify him with the five things.”

The five things of purification are obviously the five daily prayers that cleanse a Muslim of his sins.

 ~mujahida Of A Muslim Woman~
Posted by: NaSra - 10-20-2004, 12:00 AM - Forum: Woman and family - No Replies

Mujahida of a Muslim Woman

From the day Khadija asked Muhammad (sallalahu aleyhi wa salaam) to marry her,

To the night she convinced her husband that the revelation was more than mere hallucination,

Till the second she became the first believers,

I have been more than you imagined.

From the time A'isha stood firm against slander, from the moment she held her dying husband,

Till the time when she was sought after for her knowledge,

I have been more than you imagined.

From the flight to Medina to now, from the triumph at Mecca to the

triumph of more than a billion,

In fourteen hundred and twenty years, I have always been more than that. I have never been so easy for you to figure out.

I am the Bosnian woman, raped and beaten by Serbian soldiers as my husband is forced to look on, and the world turns away.

The blood that runs from the bodies of Algerian women runs from me, and stains the ground for the entire world to see.

I am the mother in Palestine, mourning her eight year old son,

shot in the head by a soldier's rubber bullet.

I am the Egyptian daughter struggling to survive in a Cairo slum,

as the government lines its pockets with foreign aid money,

and the desert dust rises to choke the young.

I am the Indonesian woman who makes $2 a day

sewing basketball sneakers for the NBA, while restlessness burns the country around me.

I am the Iranian student, sporting jeans and Mickey Mouse tee shirts under my black chador, laughing and loving, still recovering from an eight year war that cost the lives of many men.

I am the sister, wife, daughter, and mother to 500 million men.

I am all of my 500 million sisters, and they are me.

I have always been more than a threat or a symbol of hatred and

oppression. I have always been more than a terrorist's helpmate.

I have always been more than a veil or a scarf.

I have always been more than one wife of many.

I have always been more than a green card special.

In all of these myths, I have always been voiceless,

when the truth is so much louder.

I have never been that easy for you to pin down,

yet I have never been the mystery that you have created for me.

I am the warrior daughter of Khadija, A'isha, Maryam, and Sara.

I am the mother, the wife of khalifas, the sister of a

shaheed.

I am the woman who wakes at dawn to face Mecca in prayer,

bowing in submission only to The All Knowing.

I am for-jihad, fighting daily to maintain iman and identity,

to open the shut eyes of the world.

I am the woman who raises her voice among men to shout:

Takbeer!

Allahu Akbar!

Islam Was Spread By The Sword ?
Posted by: Islam is the truth - 10-17-2004, 06:08 PM - Forum: Discussion of Beliefs - Replies (1)

Islam was spread by the sword ?

Many Westerners and Christians Ministry claim or do believe that Islam is so widespread in the world today simply because of a "holy campaign of terror" carried out by the early Muslims to convert non-Muslims to Islam. Non-Muslims were offered the freedom to choose either Islam or death.

-Allah Almighty says in Quran Say: the truth from your Lord and let him who will believe and let him who will reject" (18:29)

-"We sent down the Qur'an in Truth and in Truth has it descended" (17:105)

-"Put your trust in Allah for you are on the path of the manifest Truth" (27:79)

1.Islam means peace.

Islam comes from the root word "salaam " which means peace. It also means submitting one's will to Allah (swt). Thus Islam is a religion of peace, which is acquired by submitting one's will to the will of the Supreme Creator, Allah (swt).

2-Did Muslims really force others to convert to Islam? Is there any evidence for consistent forcible conversion throughout Islamic history? As a matter of fact, there is no such evidence anywhere in the history of Islam.

Many distinguised Western historians have attested this fact-- foremost among whom is Sir Thomas W. Arnold in his book, "The Preaching of Islam". Also there is Marshall G. Hodgson in his book, "The Venture of Islam", Albert Hourani in his book, "A History of the Arab People", Ira Lapidus in his book, "History of Islamic Societies", L.S. Starorianos in his book, "A Global Hisotry, the Human Heritage" and many others. In fact, there is substantial evidence to the contrary.

3- Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace.

Each and every human being in this world is not in favour of maintaining peace and harmony. There are many, who would disrupt it for their own vested interests.

Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace. It is precisely for this reason that we have the police who use force against criminals and anti-social elements to maintain peace in the country. Islam promotes peace. At the same time, Islam exhorts it followers to fight where there is oppression. The fight against oppression may, at times, require the use of force.

In Islam force can only be used to promote peace and justice.

4-Opinion of historian De Lacy O Leary.

The best reply to the misconception that Islam was spread by the sword is given by the noted historian De Lacy O Leary in the book "Islam at the cross road" (Page 8):

"History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myth that historians have ever repeated."

5-Islam continues to be the fastest growing religion on earth.

Professor Huston Smith of the MIT in his book, "The Religions of Man" says:

"In some areas where Islam and Christianity are competing for converts, Islam is gaining at a rate of 10 to 1."

-Ambassador Herman Ellis, in a testimony in front of the committee on Foreign Affirs of the House of Represntatives of the United States Congress on June 24th, 1985, said: "The Muslim community of the globe today is in the neighbourhood of one billion. That is an impressive figure. But what to me is equally impressive is that Islam today is the fastest growing monotheistic religion. This is something we have to take into account. Something is right about Islam. It is attracting a good many people.

6-Muslims ruled Spain for 800 years.

Muslims ruled Spain for about 800 years. The Muslims in Spain never used the sword to force the people to convert.

Later the Christian Crusaders came to Spain and wiped out the Muslims. There was not a single Muslim in Spain who could openly give the adhan, that is the call for prayers.

7-14 million Arabs are Coptic Christians.

Muslims were the lords of Arabia for 1400 years. For a few years the British ruled, and for a few years the French ruled. Overall, the Muslims ruled Arabia for 1400 years. Yet today, there are 14 million Arabs who are Coptic Christians i.e. Christians since generations.

If the Muslims had used the sword there would not have been a single Arab who would have remained a Christian.

8-More than 80% non-Muslims in India.

The Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years. If they wanted, they had the power of converting each and every non-Muslim of India to Islam. Today more than 80% of the population of India are non-Muslims. All these non-Muslim Indians are bearing witness today that Islam was not spread by the sword.

9-Indonesia and Malaysia.

Indonesia is a country that has the maximum number of Muslims in the world. The majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. May one ask, "Which Muslim army went to Indonesia and Malaysia?"

10-East Coast of Africa.

Similarly, Islam has spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. One may again ask, if Islam was spread by the sword, "Which Muslim army went to the East Coast of Africa?"

11-Thomas Carlyle.

The famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book "Heroes and Hero worship", refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: "The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one. In one man's head alone. There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men.

That he takes a sword and try to propagate with that, will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can."

12-No compulsion in religion.

With which sword was Islam spread? Even if Muslims had it they could not use it to spread Islam because the Qur'an says in the following verse:

"Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error"

[Al-Qur'an 2:256]

13-Sword of the Intellect.

It is the sword of intellect. The sword that conquers the hearts and minds of people. The Qur'an says in Surah Nahl, chapter 16 verse 125:

"Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious." [Al-Qur'an 16:125]
