This is something that has occupied the minds of many of us

Question

Visiting websites that attack Islam - People are emailing me websites that attack Islam. They say they are from the Jews and that we should send this out to everyone and tell them about it.

But is this a good idea to send these sites to everyone? What about the non-Muslims? Should we tell them to be careful too?

What should be done? Can we visit them at all? Should we warn others?

__

Thank you for your question.

As always, before we begin to provide answers, here are some important points to keep in mind:

1. As Muslims we cannot lie about anything, especially about our religion.

2. We have original recorded sources of our religion:

A) The Quran

B) Teachings of Muhammad.

This is a very unique part of Islam, not available in any other ancient religions.

3. Sometimes "questions" contain misinformation. We must qualify what it is that someone is saying against what they are implying.

4. If you find the answer to your question makes you say, "I didn't know that" or "This is good" are you ready to worship your God and your Lord without and partners?

This what Islam is really all about. The most important subject is the worship of Almighty God, without any partners or associates or "gods" besides Almighty God.

Bismillah Rahman Raheem - Answer #03-09-11 3:45 PM

Thank you for asking about these websites and for putting such confidence in our ability to be able to provide answers.

Actually, we have written on this subject a number of times. It is not permissable according to Islam, to visit these sites, nor to mention them, nor to forward emails about them. This is not the proper way to handle the situation. In fact, this is exactly what the enemies of Islam want us to do. In many cases they pretend to be Muslims or friends of Islam who are supposedly "exposing" these evil websites. To those who are not familiar with the way that the search engines work on the internet, there would seem to be no problem in visiting these sites. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The more "hits" (visits) that the site gets, the higher it is going to be rated by the search engines and the higher position it will have on a search. This will help increase the chances of these websites to come up in a word search for "Islam."

Do you doubt this?

O.K. Go to www.google.com and then type in the word "Islam" and see how many total sites there are out there with the word "Islam" in them. Today (Sept. 11, 2003) there are over 9,670,000 websites listed with Google.com and where do you think the position of one of the worst (Answering Islam) is?

Today it is on page 2.

For three years it has been on page #1. It's position has changed from 8 to 7 and then up to 6 and even 3rd.

Now, how is it that the enemy of Islam can manage to stay on the page one for over 3 years in the top ranking position? HOW?

Because Muslims continually send out messages like the one that you just sent and then they tell everyone to do the same thing.

And it works - for the enemy.

They know it will work and right now they want to get back up on the first page.

Imagine that out of 9,670,000 websites with the word "Islam" - the deviants and misguided and enemies of Islam are sharing the highest places.

Why?

Because of Muslims promoting the wrong message.

The number one position usually goes to Ibrahim Shafi at: www.islamworld.net (because he has the most links with the word "Islam")

The number two (and sometimes number one) goes to: www.islamicity.com (because they have so many links to them from their other site and others sites that link to them).

Number three is usually their other site: www.islam.org (same reasons)

Then number four is usually the Shiites or NOI (Nation of Islam under Louis Farrakhan) [notice I DO NOT give the address]

Then number five or six or seven is usually ANSWERING ISLAM - [no address again]

Islam is having another reason not to promote these sites. You see many Muslims today do not really know a lot about Islam and they are easily confused by these people who know how to mistranslate or misrepresent the verses of the Quran and the hadeeth of the prophet, peace be upon him. As a result I have a number of emails coming to me from different countries wherein the youth are asking me about things that have really messed them up, all of it stemming from these teachings.

For the above reasons you can see why it is haram to give out these sites or to even visit them.

What should we do?

Good question:

First, when you receive email talking about these sites - DO NOT FORWARD IT TO EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST.

Second, copy this letter and then send it back to everyone on the list that comes with the email to let them know the ruling on this.

Third, begin to visit and promote the websites that are dealing with the real issues of being a Muslim in this place in these times. This is critical.

We can all make a difference. But it takes cooperation and dedication. We must not play with this subject. We must work hard at promoting the real Islam based on the Quran in the Arabic language and the authentic hadeeth.

Our prophet, peace be upon him, warned us of times like these and here we are. So, let us make an agreement to work together for Allah.

Palestinians Are Described as 'Simply in Shock' After Hamas Wins Elections

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh outside his house at the al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza

The Islamic group Hamas won seventy-six of the one hundred thirty-two seats in the Palestinian parliament. Hamas defeated the ruling Fatah party.

The majority is enough for Hamas to rule by itself in the Palestinian Legislative Council. Fatah won forty-three seats. Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei and his government resigned. On Friday Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, said he will ask Hamas to form the next government.

On Friday, thousands of Fatah supporters demonstrated in Gaza, burning cars and shooting into the air. They demanded that dishonest officials resign, and that Fatah not form any coalition with Hamas. Hamas won Palestinian legislative elections held Wednesday.

The group is sworn to the destruction of Israel and has refused to disarm. Hamas has carried out many attacks against Israelis. Israel, the United States and the European Union say they will not work with a government led by Hamas. They call it a terrorist organization.

In Iran, the Foreign Ministry says the election will strengthen resistance against Israel. But Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says the results will only make the creation of a Palestinian state more difficult.

On Friday, thousands of Fatah supporters demonstrated in Gaza, burning cars and shooting into the air. They demanded that dishonest officials resign, and that Fatah not form any coalition with Hamas. Hamas won Palestinian legislative elections held Wednesday.

European Union foreign ministers will meet Monday to discuss the situation. E.U. officials say they cannot give money to a government that carries on an armed fight with Israel.

The international group that wrote the so-called road map to peace will also meet Monday. The members are the United Nations, the United States, Russia and the European Union.

Even as many world leaders expressed displeasure at the results, they praised the exercise in democracy. President Bush said the voting was a reminder that democracy "can open up the world's eyes to reality by listening to people."

Mister Bush described the Hamas victory as a "wake-up call" to the leadership in the Palestinian territories. In his words: "The people are demanding honest government. The people want services." But he added that he did not see how a group that supports the destruction of a country can be a partner in peace.

The nineteen ninety-three Oslo peace agreements created the Palestinian Authority to administer the territories. Hamas does not recognize Israel. Yet the Palestinian Authority must deal with the Israeli government in areas like water and power supplies. The agreements also say that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be settled peacefully.

The question is how might Hamas change now that it will control the Palestinian Authority.

Israel will hold national elections at the end of March. Some people think Israel is more likely now to take more steps on its own to separate itself from the Palestinians. Some Israelis say their government never should have given up the Gaza Strip. They say Hamas used the Israeli withdrawal last year for political gain.

Yet many Palestinians say they never expected Hamas to do so well, or Fatah to do so poorly. Palestinian reporter Khalil Assali says: "People are simply in shock."

ACLU says government using Patriot Act to

ACLU says government using Patriot Act to censor, exclude Muslim scholar from U.S.

Thursday January 26, 2006

By LARRY NEUMEISTER

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) A leading Muslim scholar who opposes the war in Iraq has sued the U.S. government, claiming officials used anti-terrorism laws to stop him from accepting speaking invitations from organizations.

In a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday, Tariq Ramadan accuses the government of manipulating the Patriot Act to muzzle him. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, the Swiss intellectual and Muslim scholar denied that he supports terrorism.

``I have no connections to terrorism,'' Ramadan said from Oxford, England, where he is a visiting fellow. ``This is all about my political thoughts. And my political thoughts are known to everyone.''

Ramadan was blocked from accepting a tenured teaching position at the University of Notre Dame when his visa was revoked in August 2004 under a provision of the Patriot Act, said Jameel Jaffer, an ACLU staff attorney.

Jaffer said the provision denies entry into the U.S. by any prominent foreigner who has used his status to endorse or espouse terrorism or to persuade others to do so.

Ramadan, 43, said he opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and sympathizes with the resistance there and in Palestine. But he said he also opposes Islamic extremism, and promotes peaceful solutions.

``I want to build bridges,'' he said. ``But I'm not blindly supportive of U.S. or European policies.''

Ramadan's lawyer said his exclusion reflected an effort by the U.S. government to discourage academic debate about the war and other issues.

``The government should not be using the immigration laws as instruments of censorship,'' Jaffer said.

Named as defendants in the lawsuit are Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff.

The suit seeks a declaration that the Patriot Act provision at issue is unconstitutional. It also seeks a court order preventing the government from relying on the provision to exclude Ramadan or any other foreign national.

Besides Ramadan, plaintiffs in the lawsuit include the American Academy of Religion, the American Association of University Professors and the PEN American Center, organizations which had invited Ramadan to speak in the U.S.

``The exclusion of Professor Ramadan illustrates that the Patriot Act and other post 9/11 laws and policies may be serving to increase American isolation at a time when international dialogue is more critical than ever,'' Salman Rushdie, president of the PEN American Center, said in a statement. The center had invited Ramadan to speak in New York in April at its World Voices Festival.

The ACLU said Ramadan, a visiting fellow at St. Anthony's College at the University of Oxford, in August accepted British Prime Minister Tony Blair's invitation to join a government task force to examine the roots of extremism in Britain.

Megan Gaffney, a spokeswoman for government lawyers in Manhattan, said they had no immediate comment on the lawsuit.

Associated Press Writer Tom Hays contributed to this report.

‘May Allah bless and make fortunate that man who hears a hadeeth from us (i.e., from the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and then he conveys that hadeeth just as he heard it, for there are many who will receive the hadeeth after him who are more preserving and understanding of the hadeeth than the one who heard it himself the first time.’ [Tirmidhi]

For the first time ever in the English language, Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq will be delivering a series of detailed commentaries on al Tajrid al Sarih, the abridged Saheeh al-Bukhari, which is a comprehensive coverage of the blessed Sunnah of the greatest benefactor of mankind. By the grace of Allah we have this great and unique opportunity to study the words and actions of the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in the established and traditional manner as preserved and conveyed by the Predecessors through an unbroken and authentic chain of narration under the tutorage of Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq. Saheeh al-Bukhari which is widely regarded as being the most authentic book after the Book of Allah. The Saheeh of Imam Bukhari, comprising of approximately 4,400 different narrations, selected from an original collection of 600,000 is considered the pinnacle of the science of hadeeth. Each hadeeth is covered at length and an explanation given of the great wisdom behind how and why it was selected for inclusion in the Saheeh, along with its relevance to the chapter heading. Derived rulings as well as the context and circumstances surrounding the individual hadeeth are also discussed. Most importantly, lessons are drawn that aid the listener to practically implement the words of the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in his or her life.

Who was Imam Bukhari?

Imam Muhammad bin Ismaeel al Bukhari (194-254 Hijri) was born in Bukhara, modern day Uzbekistan. He saw a dream in his youth in which he was fanning the air and removing the dust and flies whilst seated in front of the noble Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam). This was an early indication of the glorious future Allah had planned for him. Upon interpretation, he was told that he would be instrumental in removing falsehood from the ahadeeth of the noble Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He is undoubtedly the greatest ever Imam of hadeeth with over 90,000 students having studied the Jami al Saheeh directly from him and over 130 commentaries of his work having been completed. In the past the Great Scholars of hadeeth used to travel for hundreds of miles for the sake of one hadeeth and yet we are getting this opportunity without all this hard work and effort. Let us not let this great opportunity go to waste. We request that you come yourselves and bring others also to learn the words of the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
