Propoganda in the Middle East

Quote:The amount of Propoganda on american t.v is soo rediculous, only showing one side of the story never presenting the truth.

REALLY? Where do you live?

Apparently you don't watch CNN, ABC, CBS, or MSNBC

Nasra, common, it's not like that at all. I'm neither American nor Muslim but I consider the lives of both to be of equal value. Every human life is sacred. There's no "us" or "them". Let's pray for all the victims regardless of whether they're products of Bush or Bin Laden.

No! No! No! Allah will reward & punish us according to our deeds & His justice. Please don't set out on a vengeance or encourage others to seek revenge.

Do you like music? Are you familiar with these inspirational & touching songs? "What's going on?" (Marvin Gaye) "Where is the Love?" (Black Eyed Peas) "We are the World!" (U.S.A. for Africa) "Heal the World!" (Michael Jackson)

Hi FHC

It's hard to turn a blind eye and although Islam teaches that we should repel evil with that which is better, it also teaches to defend yourself when neccessary. I personally wouldn't seek revenge too easily but we all have our limits. It's easy to talk from the comfort of your own home and spread peace behind a computer screen but in the battle thats a different story. These people are in a battle they have every right to be angry.

There will come a time in all of our lives where we must question ourselves what it is that we believe in, and are we willing to stand up for it?

I don't listen to Music, no, I have given it up for Allahs sake. I don't need music to calm me down, I have my 5 daily prayers alhamdulilah.: )

What does where I live has got anything to do with what comes on my t.v?

We all watch the same news, and you know very well that everything I said is true, stop pretending like you don't know anything. I always make this joke in public when I see some non-Muslim looking funny at me, "hmm I bet tha one didn't miss the propaganda on t.v last night"..We all know that Americans watch their news and take them very seriously. If I may, some of the stuff that comes on the news are like this "They want to Kill us, me and you..Islam is on the grow we are infidels to them and nothing else"..hmm interesting.

About the public thing, thats not to say that All Americans look at me funny (being dressed from head to toe and in Hijab) I also have many who will go out of their way just to say hi and smile at me. There are those who will give me nasty looks, and I think those are the ones who base their judgements simply on what they may have read, seen, or heard on biased and propaganda driven media platforms.

You forgot to add fox news on your list...not that I watch it but we all know what comes on fox news...and all those channels u listed.

Hi Nasra - thanks to another thread, I've realized you're a guy :)

If Islam teaches that you should repel evil with good then why would you want to go against its teaching?

Quote:it also teaches to defend yourself when neccessary.

The Church also teaches we should defend ourselves - based on rigorous conditions of moral legitimacy.

Quote:It's easy to talk from the comfort of your own home and spread peace behind a computer screen but in the battle thats a different story.

Fair call! But I like to think I practise what I preach.

Quote:These people are in a battle they have every right to be angry.

Anger is a desire for revenge. If anger reaches the point of a deliberate desire to kill or seriously wound a neighbor, it is gravely against the virtue of charity (CCC 2302). There won't be peace in the world until we first possess peace in our hearts.

Quote:There will come a time in all of our lives where we must question ourselves what it is that we believe in, and are we willing to stand up for it?

Does there come a time when you must wage a war in order to prove your loyalty to Allah?

That's awesome! What prayers do you recite during Salat? I used to have a pamphlet containing instructions on what to do but not what to say.

Here's a good peace prayer...

God, make me an instrument of your peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

when there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand,

to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Pray harder!!!

Peace :peace:

Quote:In church every week I hear a message of peace, forgiveness and love. I have never heard anything about beheading Mulims, Non-Christians, or anybody else.

Quote:Oh really? How about the attacks on Muslims and Islam by Christians preachers on their daily TV show in your country?
Are you calling this "a message of peace, forgiveness and love" ?

that's what i was thinking..

Quote:First, let’s understand that the KKK is a hate group that has been the subject of rigorous prosecution by the U.S. government such that they are wholly marginalized. They are also the subject of ridicule and condemnation by the overwhelming majority of Americans.
Secondly, let’s understand that the KKK is not supported, sheltered, harbored or funded by the U.S. government as is the case with various Islamic terrorist groups who operate under the protection and funding of Moslem governments

this *may* not be entirely true..

Quote:are protected from political parties whose members are masked killers who carry a loaded Kalashnikov everywhere they go

as opposed to the political parties in the western world, who use satelites to track people, indiscriminately eavesdrop on phone calls, plan to implant people, force 'democracy' on other countries?? (etc etc)

Quote:List of proscribed terrorist groups

curious how most of these are organisations that seek to overthrow the established rule? (to quote from pop culture - isn't it the american dream to kill your boss?) ie: overthrow your tyrant?

Quote:Why is it so hard to understand the same exists within the muslim world?

why is it so hard to understand that PROPAGANDA is everywhere!?

Why does the term “conspiracy theorist” come to mind?

Let me guess. You spend a lot of time on “Prisonplanet” and other such tabloid web sites.

1. I have no problem if satellites are used to track terrorists and other criminals.

2. You’ll have to offer something more than hysterical claims about “indiscriminately eavesdrop(ing)" on phone calls if you're hoping to make some point.

3. My dog is chipped. You’ll have to offer something more than hysterical claims if you’re suggesting that the government will require people to be chipped.

4. What “force” would that be? The Iraqi people, for example, were given the opportunity to choose a representative government. I suspect that they will eventually choose to elect an Arab strongman who will dismantle all of the opportunities they were given, but that will be their choice. Unless you believe that the Afghani people are better off under the auspices of knuckle dragging 7th century throwbacks, (the Taliban), who treat the female population little better than cattle, then you need to step up to the plate and offer viable solutions.

Isolationism and the allowance of other peoples to go about their business may be an appropriate policy at certain times and may be an appropriate policy to apply to certain areas of government - in cases where we deem it to be non-beneficial to interfere in the operation of foreign nations, we will not do so. If we deem it to be beneficial, we will.

The value of the international community is to impose certain penalties on nations that harm others excessively for their own gain - sometimes this is formal through sanctions or combat, but more regularly through intangible attacks on trade, political capital and the like. The value of morality is the belief, not that we should ever NOT pursue that which benefits us most as a nation, but that there is value INHERENT in acting rightly: that right action generates a value that must be considered alongside economic, security, political and other issues in determining the proper course of action.

5. Regarding your "american dream" comment, it appears that you watch a lot of vintage 1960's era television.

Quote:why is it so hard to understand that PROPAGANDA is everywhere!?

It's not difficult to understand at all. Consider: we in the West inarguably have the widest access to news and information than anywhere on the planet. Not everyone is discerning or discriminating in connection with what they read and watch but it's caveat emptor, basically.

Perhaps your dissatisfaction with Western culture could be remedied by enjoying a bit of time in an Islamic paradise: Somalia, for example.
