Prayer was mentioned in many Ayah's of Quran, like perform prayer, maintain prayer and so forth. But the number was conveyed thru the Messenger (salla Allah u a`alyhee wa sallam). He received the number of prayer enjoined on us during the trip (ascending to skies).
