Namaste,

Pardon, but what is the money which is donated used for? I worked for starbucks for a couple of years, and their charities, etc., are wide open to inspection by everyone, should they choose. I generally disagree with the concept of Corporation in general, but from what I have learned about Starbucks, they are very fair in their business with the nations that supply their products, and give to worthy charities almost excessively. I have met Howard Schultz myself - he visits every store periodically, believe it or not! - and while he must have an image to maintain, of course, neither you nor I can say for certain whether he is maintaining an image or simply being himself. But, while he was at our store, he lectured briefly on the ideals and aims of the starbucks corporation, and his professd goal is to repair the bad reputation that the label 'corporation' comes with.

I do not know enough about why donating money to Israel is a bad thing - it did not go to the Nation, or the Military, but rather to an orginization dedicated to education. See here:

It is worth mentioning that Howard Schultz is Jewish...

In any case, why then boycott starbucks? They do a lot of good for people around the world that no one else is helping, and they're doing it in a way that will allow those countries to develope their own economy. This is a step towards making an impact on world hunger, poverty, and ultimately, as a result, on the spread of disease and the presence of tyranny in third world nations - the poor and helpless are always victims of tyranny, no such thing as a nation made up only of the meek.

Here is another bit of research - just a letter from Starbucks (Which I will remind you is an American corporation, so try to look objectively) - to explain how they choose whom to donate money to.

There are far worse corporations in this world than starbucks. I suggest boycotting THEIR products, as that may in the long run produce some positive result. I'll remind you that starbucks helps support many arabic economies, and pays out the rump for the coffee beans grown in countries which are primarily muslim. It's good coffee, though I don't have much of a palet for the nuances of taste in it.

If it's a racial thing then one may be reminded of a verse I only recently saw posted here, about equality amongst all of the 'children of adam and eve'.

If I may ask, did you do any research before this accusation and resultant decision to boycott?

Now, in case I seem one sided, here's another point of view, although it is as one-sided, being a very conservative source:

Judge this how you will, I personally support many liberal venues of charity because I believe that the conservatives in America - I don't know about the rest of the world - are trying to deny many, many people here the rights that our constitution grants us by law.

Hey, if you're going to boycott, why not focus on the fact that they donate to Gay and Lesbian charities? That's against the ideal of Islam, right? Doing all the good in the world for the hungry, the poor, and the economically desolate, doesn't justify supporting homosexuality, right? And don't worry, even if your whole country boycotts, starbucks will still buy the coffee that those who want a better life work to produce, and they'll still buy it at a better than fair price, because they believe in making a positive difference in the world. And that is from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Namaste
