Don't Drink Starbucks - radiyah - 02-08-2006

Bismillah

If u like starbucks, and u think u enjoy sitting in thier cafe's drinking from their various drinks and eating from their various snacks, would u still eat it if u know that starbucks donates money to Israel, would u then pay a penny to help killing a palestinian muslim, will your muslim brother's blood be cheap and u will not care and continue going to starbucks, then I am sorry to say, may Allah(SWT) show u the true path, there are always alternatives, arent there?

Below u will find the truth about Starbucks:

So what will u choose my brothers and sisters in Islam, starbucks or boycott.

Namaste,

Pardon, but what is the money which is donated used for? I worked for starbucks for a couple of years, and their charities, etc., are wide open to inspection by everyone, should they choose. I generally disagree with the concept of Corporation in general, but from what I have learned about Starbucks, they are very fair in their business with the nations that supply their products, and give to worthy charities almost excessively. I have met Howard Schultz myself - he visits every store periodically, believe it or not! - and while he must have an image to maintain, of course, neither you nor I can say for certain whether he is maintaining an image or simply being himself. But, while he was at our store, he lectured briefly on the ideals and aims of the starbucks corporation, and his professd goal is to repair the bad reputation that the label 'corporation' comes with.

I do not know enough about why donating money to Israel is a bad thing - it did not go to the Nation, or the Military, but rather to an orginization dedicated to education. See here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aish_HaTorah

It is worth mentioning that Howard Schultz is Jewish...

In any case, why then boycott starbucks? They do a lot of good for people around the world that no one else is helping, and they're doing it in a way that will allow those countries to develope their own economy. This is a step towards making an impact on world hunger, poverty, and ultimately, as a result, on the spread of disease and the presence of tyranny in third world nations - the poor and helpless are always victims of tyranny, no such thing as a nation made up only of the meek.

Here is another bit of research - just a letter from Starbucks (Which I will remind you is an American corporation, so try to look objectively) - to explain how they choose whom to donate money to.

There are far worse corporations in this world than starbucks. I suggest boycotting THEIR products, as that may in the long run produce some positive result. I'll remind you that starbucks helps support many arabic economies, and pays out the rump for the coffee beans grown in countries which are primarily muslim. It's good coffee, though I don't have much of a palet for the nuances of taste in it.

If it's a racial thing then one may be reminded of a verse I only recently saw posted here, about equality amongst all of the 'children of adam and eve'.

If I may ask, did you do any research before this accusation and resultant decision to boycott?

Now, in case I seem one sided, here's another point of view, although it is as one-sided, being a very conservative source:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article....RTICLE_ID=45694

Judge this how you will, I personally support many liberal venues of charity because I believe that the conservatives in America - I don't know about the rest of the world - are trying to deny many, many people here the rights that our constitution grants us by law.

Hey, if you're going to boycott, why not focus on the fact that they donate to Gay and Lesbian charities? That's against the ideal of Islam, right? Doing all the good in the world for the hungry, the poor, and the economically desolate, doesn't justify supporting homosexuality, right? And don't worry, even if your whole country boycotts, starbucks will still buy the coffee that those who want a better life work to produce, and they'll still buy it at a better than fair price, because they believe in making a positive difference in the world. And that is from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Sweety, Israel stands for hatered, racism and thousand's of Muslim's blood is on that nation!

I couldnt care less for what its INTENTIONS are...they might be as pious as Jesus(Isa) but what they STAND for is just not acceptable to us Muslims.

Israel ONLY thinks European civilisation is worthy and civilised u can read up on 'Zionism's' ideology anytime u like :)

Its about their HATERED and their existance stands for terrorism...so thats y we boycott their feelings and products :)

Hm. I am not from the middle east. However, does the entire nation of israel, down to the last man, certainly hate every muslim? I'm not fully aware of the details, I only know that Christiand, Jews, and Muslims alike all hold some special significance to Jerusalem.

Many muslim sects have been turned to Terrorism and guerilla warfare - should I boycott all arabic products because so many of their people hate the christian nation? I don't know how many arabic products I use...

Thousand, no, hundreds of thousands, of Muslim's blood is on Europe, remember the crusades? Do you buy european products? Thousands of American deaths are on the hands of muslims - if we're going to just blanket generalize here - and vice versa, but we still do business.

Lots of people have killed muslims, and muslims have killed lots of people. Many people would say that Islam itself stands for hatred and war.

i will look into Zionism, I have heard the word but not in it's proper context. However, the list of people who support your enemies is much longer than just Starbucks. I would suggest that to see this reasoning through, you boycot the products of many, many companies. Lots of money goes to Israel because a significant portion of at least American corporations are owned and run by Jewish executives. Ha, corporations are so loud about their charity, i'm sure there's a list, probably engraved in gold somewhere!

I see here the tendancy to take the actions of a small, small part, and take revenge on them at the whole of what is attached to it. Fear and Hate are bad for the soul, and what's more, they cloud the mind. Most large groups of people are guilty of this one way or another, but the individual should be more discerning, more specific. Mankind is not evil, but there are a great many evil men. You would not have me judge you yourself based on the actions of the Taliban, would you? If you would strike the heart of a matter, you must know where the heart lies - not fire haphazardly in the direction of the problem.

Bismillah

Thanku for responding, and we appreciate your input Mahas and concern, and I would like to tell u that we do not hate jews or christians or any1, on the contrary, in Islam we are ordered not to hate any1 and to live peacefully with every ethnic society as long as there is no war between us, and if u make a bit of history research, u will know that muslims jews and christians lived all together in peace in jerusalem, until the war against arab countries started, and the zionists started their so called claim of the holy land, and also if there is war, we do not hate, we fight for our rights without hate or revenge. Israel was implanted in our arabic and muslim land, it is considered an enemy, not all jews who are living in palestine are enemies, arab jews are not well treated by israel as europeans and american jews, even the flasha are not very well treated, and every1 knows this.

Now that organization that starbucks donates to as u made the research was built in jerusalim:

Aish HaTorah ("Fire [of] the Torah") is an Orthodox Jewish outreach organization and yeshiva. With its headquarters in the Old City of Jerusalem, where the government of Israel awarded it a coveted piece of land — forty percent of the frontage facing the Western Wall, it has branches in most cities around the world with large populations of Jewish people.

In Jerusalem, the Aish HaTorah yeshiva offers full-time, intensive study programs for college and university age young Jewish men of all backgrounds and levels of knowledge. Areas of study include Hebrew Bible, Talmud, history, philosophy and Hebrew ulpan.

The rabbinical ordination program combines classical Talmudic training with intensive instruction in outreach and leadership skills. Over 200 men have graduated from its rabbinic program, assuming leadership roles in many Jewish communities around the world.

As we see the underlined and bold, it is clear where it is situated, that is one strong reason that will make me insist on boycotting, and also the rabbinical ordination program in leadership, well yes leaders like sharon and others. So this is one reason that will make me insist on boycott.

Now second, I really did not understand the second point about the war in Iraq. But I remember i saw a picture of american soldiers with starbucks stand as an aid to soldiers there. i cant find it now  .

Third, I never knew anything about starbucks aiding gays, thanku for letting us know, this will be a stronger reason also to boycott it :)

Last I have one question for u, do u beleive that Israel has the right to exist, stealing arab and muslim lands, if u do, then I will not respond any more to this thread, and if u do i would like to tell u that there are jews who refuse the existance of israel,

Traditional Jews Are Not Zionists

Although there are those who refuse to accept the teachings of our Rabbis and will continue to support the Zionist state, there are also many who are totally unaware of the history of Zionism and its contradiction to the beliefs of Torah-True Jews.

I hope u got my point, we hate no one, but others hate us thanks to Israel and the new american conservatives(who are now losing their popularity), we do not blame every single jew for what is happening in Israel, nor do we blame every single american for the so called democratic war against muslim countries. Alhamdulilah we did enough research from our part from a long time, I hope u do your research also and try digging the truth. You must know that if there is peace and our stolen land is back then we will have no problem in dealing with anyone or buying from anyone. But if we are in the state of war, we do not buy or aid any one who helps the state of Israel.

Peace

lol

I dont think there r much Arabi productts..and i am from Pakistab...so ive never been in Palestine

Yes thousands u prolly mean THREE thousand Americans who got killed in 9/11 attacks

and plz kindly compare the number of Muslims dead in Irak and Afghanistan!!! this is too shameful!!

Also NO Muslim sect has killed as many europeans or have taken LANDS as Israel has done...so please look into it and dont make 'assumptions'

There r NO muslim SECTS who preach terrorism...get this right! There r INDIVIDUALS who do terrorism and no sect of Islam preach killings of innocents

But Zionism HAS done mass killings..and by the way..which sect u mean when u say there r sects who preach terrorism?

Asalama Alaikum (i have many ways of spelling this, please do not laugh at my attempts :P )

I suppose the thread starter will create a topic for each brand we should boycott, as he/she chose only to refer to Starbucks in this. Well, there are actually several chains of businesses and brands that support or are said to be supporting the state of Israel one way or the other.

Many years ago, we were given a poster in our Masjid of brands/companies that were said to be supporting Israel, and if you really are sincere about boycotting them - you should boycott them all. And there is alot, varying on your location, the brands and companies are different or have different titles.

Go to Google and just type in 'Boycott Israel' and you will get atleast a dozen companies and brands to boycott.

But the idea of boycotting isnt easy, especially the research part. With me, if i intended to do this - I would firstly want to researach every brand and get them on my hit-list (my other one  ), so I dont unintentionally buy or support from a store that helps Israel.

So my advice, identity all of the targets - then march forward with your branch sticks!
