Muslimah,
Resepct for Jesus
Hi. I do read the ayats people post, so I saw everyone's response to my original question. Nothing, though, was clear about how Muslims respect/revere Jesus. I suppose that I'll just let this issue go.
Unlettered Prophet
I can appreciate that you believe Quran 29:48 meeans he was illiterate. I don't think history is so clear on the matter myself. I found even another site, a very-well known one to many Muslims, which argues that interpretation as well. At submission.org they don't even agree that it meant illiterate, at least not during your prophet's time. They contest that this was a later rendering of the term and that people began to use this definition to make the Quran seem more miraculous.
- That is in case anyone actually cares to read what *I* post. I'm often accused of being desperate and making things up. Then when I post links to Muslim sources, no one has a response to that. These are MUSLIMS who make compelling arguments and give evidence for the conclusions that they make.
Laian,
Thank you for being open and sharing a bit of your background. I know you didn't have to do that.
With all respect, though, I didn't see anything in your story that said *you* were a Christian. I'm NOT saying you weren't one; it's not my place to judge that. Perhaps, some way, you did actually become a believer. I just didn't get from your story when/how/etc. it happened.
But Going to Sunday School every week doesn't equate to being Christian. And I fear that you were probably taught a lot of erroneous things by the Mormons; the fact that they take another "gospel" or another book beyond the Bible is evidence enough that they don't understand the Bible itself correctly. Then, they also believe things like Jesus being a "god" (little 'g') and that all men can attain the goal of being little gods, too, and running their own planet.... Very Strange.
I would not consider them as a group to be Christians at all, but a very heretical set of individuals.
It would be like me claiming that Bahai's are Muslim. Sure, they believe in the Quran and Muhammad and all that, but.... they also believe in other messengers/prophets AFTER Muhammad and other revelation AFTER him.
They are no more Muslim than Mormons are Christians.
