MISS MOPPY AND THE BANANA LADY
This situation happened when Miss Moppy (nick-name) only, was about three years old. Before she was born, her mother couldn't eat enough bananas. Thankfully the bananas were in season as the pregnancy wore on.
One day Miss Moppy's Mum had to have a blood test , where she had to fast for so many hours then eat something and repeat the test. Well, after those hours had passed, you guessed it, she headed straight for the fruit stand and downed half a kilo of bananas, then proceeded to complete the diabetes test. The doctor shook his head and with a worried look on his face said, "the numbers are higher than they should be.."
"Excuse me, doctor but I must admit that I ate a 'few' bananas when I broke my fast."
The doctor smiled and said, "in that case, you're just fine."
After Miss Moppy was born the fridge broke down and was out of order for months. The only fruit that could be stored easily was, bananas. Little Miss Moppy had a banana everyday for the first year and a half of her life. By the time she was about two, she started to take a strong dislike to bananas. She wasn't forced to eat them but sometimes the older children would wave one in front of her face and she'd take off like a rocket. Her older brother used to hang one in front of his bedroom door, so she wouldn't go in and bother him when he was playing! Everyone, including friends and family, knew that Moppy didn't like bananas.
Then the family moved into a new flat in a new area. They started to discover the shops and fruit stands. Nearby, stood a nice, big fruit and vegetable stand. The people who worked it, were very friendly and tried to get and keep customers. One day Miss Moppy and her mother drove to the fruit stand to buy some things and the lady was quick and efficient in gathering up all the items they wanted. When it came time to take the money, the lady was shy and wouldn't take it, until she reached up and took down a nice, ripe, yellow banana. She peeled it and with a cheery smile on her face handed it to Miss Moppy.
Now Miss Moppy was in a difficult position. She knew she should be polite but there was no way on this earth that she could or would touch or eat that banana. At the time, she was sitting on the driver's seat of the car with the car door open. The lady handed her the banana and her little unsure right hand politely reached out to take it. She threw back her long loose curls and managed a smile in return, then without flinching, she tossed that nice yellow banana straight over her shoulder and held the astonished lady's stare with a beautiful, hopeful, yet unsure smile that would be sure to melt any heart.
Miss Moppy's mother quickly whisked the lady away, paying her the money and thanking her for her attention then quickly pushed Moppy aside and started to drive away. The mother looked through the rear vision mirror and saw the lady standing on the side of the road waving and calling out , 'the banana! the banana!'
On the way home in the car her mother said,
"Listen! Why did you throw the banana over your shoulder like that?"
"Well, I didn't want to throw it at the lady. She was nice."
