Are American and European muslims more liberal?

Quote:Sorry, I missed the sign on the door that said \"No Shias allowed.\" [Image: rolleyes.gif] I am not a sunni, I am not a shia. I know something of the beliefs of both, and when people ask what ISLAM is, the answer should be comprehensive, and they SHOULD appreciate that Muslims do not all believe the same things.

salaam
Why do you try to use logic to say that shia are not misguided...

Islam doesnt work like that... Yes islam is pragmatic... However... you cannot use you own logic to determine what it is and what it isnt.... Khairan... as i said above... dont misunderstand...

This is a sunni forum... DID I SAY GET OUT....

NO

DON'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS...

What I am saying is try your best NOT to preach the 'aqeedah of the shiites when you come in... this is most disgusting... and as i said previously..

MADNESS...

If you are here for peace then alhamdulillah... but dont cause fitna...

DONT...

it is most disgusting...

may allah guide you khairan...

Hmmm.

My initial intent was not to defend Shiism, because I didn't realize I would have to. So, no naseeha, I'm not here to create discord. However, as I have said before, Shia beliefs also fall under the purvue of "Islam," as it exists today. This is a fact, and non-Muslims looking to learn about Islam should understand that.

Why do you say that I am "preaching" Shia values? Have I at any point said that they are better than Sunni ones? I'm pointing out that they exist, and that those studying Islam should be aware of their existence.

I'm sorry that you find 20% of your Muslim brethren disgusting, but the fact of the matter is that they took the same shahadat you did, and they read the same scripture you do. You may not like the beliefs they hold, but those beliefs are steeped in oral tradition and scripture in the same way sunni beliefs are.

If indeed discussion of shias is not permitted on this board, then it is not a place for the open discussion of what "Islam" is.

salaam

While we're on Liberalism, has anyone seen an articulated condemnation of honor killings? I've only seen scant gossip of this butchery, yet it's still in our "Islamic" mists. I'm not at all optimistic liberal lapdogs will perk up on the issue, however I would like to see a good conscious reply from my fellow Muslims who are either cognizant of it or have experienced this barbarity head-on.

Asalaamu alikum brother Khairan,

I want to add something for your consideration: When people come to you asking what is Islam, we should use the best possible approach. Explaining the difference between the Sunni and the Shia will not help a non-Muslim understand what is Islam, I think on the contrary, it will only serve to confuse them as anything you tell to a non-Muslim is most likely reletively new information.

As the Prophet said in his last Khutba, he left us with the Quran and the Sunnah, and if we follow them we shall not go astray.

Would it not be then a better approach and encourage non-Muslim to look into these sources and reflect on them, for these are clear and accurate sources, and a thinking and sincere person looking to find the truth will insha Allah find guidence through them. I think that using this approach would be far more effective. Talk to them about Quran, tell them about the Prophet, and let Allah handle the rest.

I agree with you the answer to their inquiry should be comprhensive, but lets use the right sources. Quran and Sunnah are better tools than the faulty minds of people.

When telling someone who inquires about our religion, we are given a big responsibility, may Allah help us to handle it with humility, forgive our shortcomings and give us wisdom. Ameen.

Your sister in Islam,

~Jennifer

While we're on it, I was listening to this radio talk show where this Christian woman (cautious as she is) called in and slammed "Evangelical" Christians for their fervid hatred of Muslims. To demonstrate how Christianity is a peace-loving religion, never mind the verses, she briefly explains how Jesus loved and loved despite the howling from his Jewish contemporaries.

I'm sure you all noticed what I noticed, right? Sounds like this woman wanted to replace Jesus with Auguste Comte and replace Christianity with the "Religion of Humanity." Obliviously as she is to the New Testament evidence, she blithely sees nothing wrong with conveying a watered down version of the "Son of God." It seems like she fears Liberals more than she fears God; a sad, but all-in-all prevalent case. I still prefer my "Evangelical" Christian when it comes to conveying “Christianity.” The nuanced and patty-cake Christianity liberals spew leaves me wondering why they remain Christian. Kind of goes back to Alasdair MacIntyre's "Fideism," doesn't it?

You have a knack for getting things wrong man... you just LOVE to misunderstand dont you... i find myself always having to correct you about what i meant... anyways here goes again...

Quote:Why do you say that I am \"preaching\" Shia values? Have I at any point said that they are better than Sunni ones? I'm pointing out that they exist, and that those studying Islam should be aware of their existence.
Where in the english language does preaching one thing mean saying that it is better than something else...

it can also mean putting forward values... etc...

anyways.. me saying that you were preaching was a reference to your post that started this whole hullabaloo...

get it

Quote:I'm sorry that you find 20% of your Muslim brethren disgusting, but the fact of the matter is that they took the same shahadat you did, and they read the same scripture you do. now where did you get this idea....

re-read my post...

what i referred to as disgusting was the FITNA...

F-I-T-N-A

NOT S-H-I-A

get with it... and again... dont jump to conclusions...

i am not disgusted by the shia they are misguided...

I am disgusted by what they say and do i.e. their beliefs.. but not them...

Now khairan... i suggest that you read my posts CAREFULLY before saying anything... ok...

I observed in many of your posts a major confusion, really, major, facts are so confused in your mind, just re read your post on Jushoa's thread and my correction of the story of king Najasheey.

Since your are already here and u r a muslim, why dont u take the chance of trying to learn. May be Allah opened a gate for u to gain correct knowledge. Not that we are a bunsh of 'SCHOLARS' but Insh a Allah we can help.

Rather than just hasten to reply, and remember it is only for your own benefit. I think we have a mutual basic ground that Quran is our source of rulings right?? I hope so????? So Allah in Surat Qaf say:"(Remember) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being),[1] one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions).[2] * 18. Not a word does he (or she) utter but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).[3] *19. And the stupor of death will come in truth: "This is what you have been avoiding!"" (Quran 50:17-19)

Just ponder on the Ayahs every single word u say, type is recorded and then played back. So rather than falling into the trap of wanting to make your presence felt, or trying to help others come to Islam without doing it the correct way, which will not only harm the receiver but mainly u in your relation with Allah and position in the Day After. Just give your self the chance to learn, sit and watch. I m doing this in the name of Allah, u r supposed to be a Muslim.

So just be careful of what u say

My suggestion would be to review the Islamic aqidah. If you hold a view that is contrary to it then you are on dangerous ground.

There are some things that make me nervous about the shia beliefs. (Please correct me if I am wrong).

One is that they disregard hadith with Aisha as the narrator.

-This leaves out an enomous amount of information about Islam

They only pray three times a day when the Qur'an repeatedly calls for five.

They believe that the message should have went to Ali and not Muhammad and that Jabreel disobeyed the Command of Allah.

-How can an angel disobey? It is against their nature. They have no free will.

Could you resolve any of these issues for me?

As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

just a small correction here Dan and will let Khairan explain.

Prayer was mentioned in many Ayah's of Quran, like perform prayer, maintain prayer and so forth. But the number was conveyed thru the Messenger (salla Allah u a`alyhee wa sallam). He received the number of prayer enjoined on us during the trip (ascending to skies).

I have more comments but let Khairan explain.
