I wanted to post here that I have been muslim for almost a decade now. I have not been the best muslim or even the best student but every question that I have had, I have an answer to. Due to my desire to find the truth, I now have access to scholars and students of knowledge who stun me with what they know. Anyabwile states time and again that he is reading the same books that we all are reading. Exactly, he is reading all the laypeople research and scholarship. If one investigates the manhaj of Islam, the methodology, even a scientist would have to appreciate it.
We have chains of narrators, knowing who told who what and who those people are. Today, muslims gobble up the news and internet as fact without knowing anything about how that information got to them or who the people who delivered the message are.
If one is confused in Islam (I now have enough knowledge to call Anyabwile that), then it is the lack of knowledge in that one person. For a convert to stay strong, it is hard to take on the new responsibilities of the deen as poeple who you thought you knew abandon you. If focus is lost, it is easy to blame Islam. "Look at all I gave up." Obviously it is something that bothers that person since it is on their mind constantly. You desire that which you think about most.
