Adopting Children

Asalamalaikum

I actually meant that it's easier to talk in person, communication is such a big deal. :)

It was an interesting discussion though. Thank's to those who took part. I don't meet the age requirement to adopt yet, leaves me just with enough time to learn~.

Aslama alaikum,

i cant believe i didnt read this topic before, im sooo upset to hear that adoption is not allowed in islam, or if it is, there are alot of 'cannots' why? it is sawaab is it not to give someone a new life, and take them in to ur house and make them yours?

it has been my dream to adopt a child since i was little, and i dont know why i thot ther was nothing wrong with it, or had no limitations.

Im in shock, i have always believed that this was allowed.

Thank you

You might be confused...

It IS allowed to care for orphans, take them it and feed them.

It is NOT allowed to call that child your child and change that child's name to your name. They must keep their name. Their true lineage should never be covered up.

In the U.S. adoption, not only CAN change the child's name and lineage but it mostly gives legal custody to the guardian so the child can be enrolled in school, get health care and such. If one was to adopt in the U.S. one must make sure that the birth certificate stays the same and that no name change occurs.

Is that clearer... or worse?
