Quote:So what is your point voice of reason? I say that it's horrible that Iranians are killed for wanting to watch their National team play a soccer match in the world cup...the same soccer watch that their President was present at...HE got to watch.
You then say that there isn't freedom in America because of Waco. Then you revert even farther back into history and bring up Kent State. Both situations, of course, aren't America's finest hours. OK...So America isn't perfect. I never said it was. But the average American has 5000 times the freedom of the average Iranian. Period.
Where do you live voice of reason?
Where would you rather live? Iran or the United States? If not either then where?
Sorry to jump in on this conversation, but this is one of my interests. I feel that Americans are losing freedoms everyday. The USAPATRIOT ACT is a prime example for a recent event. This piece of legislation lets the US government run amok doing what they want, when they want and to who they want. And now we are trying to re-write the Geneva Convention.
Another recent example is directly after 9/11 people across the United States were rounded up for suspicion. It didn't matter if they were Muslim or not or if they were US citizens or not . If someone even looked Middle Eastern then there was a high possiblity of detainment. Some of which are still being detained to this day. Their rights and freedoms were and are ignored by our government.
Bringing up past events is very relevent. History repeats itself. After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese camps that America constructed resemble closely what happened after 9/11 up to this very day. Waco and Kent State are also relevent. Just because it is in the past does not mean that it shouldn't be talked about in this reference.
There are many things that happen in other cultures that I would consider "wrong". Female circumcisions in Africa, Mandatory abortions in China, etc... But, it is their culture and that doesn't give me the right to say that they are wrong.
Sorry for jumping in...This is the type of discussion that I can really get into. What is freedom? Who defines it?
