Egypt's soccer legend Mohamed Aboutreika‏
Posted by: Muslimah - 11-27-2008, 06:01 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Aboutreika, never imagined the match against Congo in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers would draw many Congolese to the fold of Islam.

(daylife.com) Aboutreika's prostration aroused many Congolese's curiosity about Islam.

TRIPOLI — Egypt's soccer legend Mohamed Aboutreika, also admired for his piety and good manners, has never imagined that his match against Congo in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers would draw many Congolese to the fold of Islam.

"Many Congolese were curious to know why Aboutreika prostrated after he scored," Sheikh Abdulla Mingala Lwaba, the mufti of Congo, told IslamOnline.net in an exclusive interview.

Aboutreika, nominated for the CAF African Footballer of the Year award in 2006 and running for the title this year, scored the winner goal in Egypt's clash with Congo in the World Cup qualifier last September.

To the surprise of the thousands of Congolese fans, he immediately kneeled to the ground before being joined by fellow teammates.

"Many fans came to us wondering why the Egyptian players did that," said Lwaba.

"We explained to them that the prostration was meant to thank God for his blessings, an act encouraged by Islam," he explained.

"Many of them developed a curiosity about Islam that eventually led them to embracing the Muslim faith."

Aboutreika enjoys a huge popularity in Egypt, the Arab world and Africa for his amazing skills and good manners.

He was named the world's most popular soccer player in 2007, according to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).

Envoy of Islam

The Congolese mufti describes Aboutreika and his like him as ambassadors of Islam.

"They are preachers of Islam," he told IOL.

Lwaba said many people look up to famous stars as role models.

"When a Muslim sets a good example in his work and actions, many follow him. And when he abides by his religious values, he guides many people to his faith."

Born in 1978 in the city of Giza, Aboutreika led Egypt to win the African Cup of Nations in 2006 and 2008, earning him the "Africa's Zinedine Zidane" nickname.

He has also been dubbed "The Smiling Assassin" by foreign media because of his two main trademarks: goal-scoring and glamorous smiling.

Off the pitch, Aboutreika is a player known for his good manners with a personality as great as his silky skills.

In 2005, Aboutreika joined UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors Brazilian Ronaldo, French Zidane and 40 other international soccer stars for a "Match Against Poverty."

His stardom increased across the Arab and Muslim worlds because of his support of Muslims causes.

After scoring a goal during the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, Aboutreika revealed a T- shirt bearing the slogan "We Sacrifice Ourselves for You Prophet Muhammad" in response to the blasphemous Danish cartoons.

He also made headlines in January of this year during Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations match against Sudan, when he lifted his jersey after scoring his first goal to show a white T-shirt emblazoned with "Sympathize With Gaza."

London: Michael Jackson has converted to Islam – and has changed his name to Mikaeel, according to reports.

According to the Sun, the 50-year-old singer wore traditional Islamic dress as he pledged his allegiance to the Koran at a friend's home in Los Angeles.

Mikaeel is the name of one of Allah’s angels.

Methodist Bush converting to Catholicism?

Jackson, who was raised a Jehovah's Witness, reportedly decided to convert after discussing religion with a music producer and songwriter on his new album - both of whom were converts to Islam, says reports.

“They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea,” a source said.

“An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief. Jacko rejected an alternative name, Mustafa — meaning “the chosen one,” the source added.

Brit singer Yousef Islam, 60 — who was called Cat Stevens until he famously converted — turned up to help Jacko celebrate.

Meanwhile, Jackson is due to give evidence in court next week after being sued by Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, second son of the King of Bahrain.

Sheikh Abdulla, who is seeking 7 million dollars, claims he helped support the cash-strapped Jackson in the aftermath of his child molestation trial.

Abdulla claims Jackson promised to pay back the money, while Jackson says he thought it was a gift. Jackson is expected to give evidence to a London court via video link from LA.

 "Good Christians" and "bad Christians"
Posted by: reepicheep - 11-18-2008, 04:12 PM - Forum: Discussion of Beliefs - Replies (5)

Wel_mel_2 did a post a few days ago (now deleted, apparently, since I cannot find it) where he said there are two types of Christians (basically, "good" Christians and "evil" Christians), and that the vast majority of Christians fall into the "evil" Christian category.

Q1: What criteria do muslims use to differentiate between good and evil Christians?

Q2: Are muslim males allowed to marry both good and evil Christians, or are they only allowed to marry good Christians?

Q3: Do "good" Christians go to heaven when they die?

Zar is Haram but I need to clear few points on what happen in my house!
Posted by: Infoseeker - 11-18-2008, 08:55 AM - Forum: General - Replies (20)

Salaam Brother and sister , I thought i better start a new topic on Zar , for those of you who don't know Zar is haram in Islam and there is no proof that can be found in the Holy Quran and Any of the Hadiths ,

I am still a learner and i really can't give you any more information on this but what i need to know is , What happen in my own house was it Zar or just Zikkar

before I start explaining what happen I would like to make it clear I myself don't follow any sect ie i don't beleive I am a sunnee ,Wahbee,Sufeee or any other Sect's that do exist , I beleive all mosque are a house of Allah and therefore if you hear the Athan you should attend to it regards less of what sect it might belong. this option is my own option and does not come from any hadiths , in a nut shell beleive in One Allah and follow his messager prophet Muhammad peace and blessing be upon him.

This is what happen

my parent follow this sect that are know as Brav-reee they call them self Sunnee , { can't spell sorry} never the less they orgainise this gathering in my house were this person believe he was from a lineage of the Prophet Muhammad peace and blessing up him. any way cut to the point I basically said in my house Women will sit in a sperate room and men in the other one.

this Person ask his to switch off all lights in the house , so it was completely dark , he basically ask us all to join him in Zakkar , so he started off saiding

Allah oooooooooooooooooo for good 30 to forth times and many other surah was recited

the men were all sit in a circle , I decided to cover my head with a scarf , even thought we were in the dark. he then ask us to image we where dead and when thought all the death process , scaring the hell out of me and making me realize that death could really happen anytime { not that I was not aware of it but you know what i mean} He then made dua to Allah S.W.T asking forgivingnes and basically by the time he finish his dua we all were in tears

What I want to know is , what happen here is this a form of Zar or is this the safe side of Zakkar

As you all know I don't want to go to hell fire and i ask allah to forgive me and all of us if wrong has happen here.

 The Backbiting Of The Heart
Posted by: SisterJennifer - 11-17-2008, 02:17 PM - Forum: Islam - Replies (1)

This is a chapter from Al-Imaam An-Nawawi’s book Al-Athkaar, on how the heart is just as accountable for evil thoughts about someone as the tongue is for evil speech. We ask Allaah for safety and deliverance

The Backbiting of the Heart

Know that having evil thoughts about someone is forbidden just as evil speech [is]. So just as it is forbidden for you to speak to others about the faults of someone, it is also forbidden for you to speak to yourself about that and to hold negative thoughts of him. Allah says:

“O you who believe, avoid much (types) of suspicion. Verily some (forms) of suspicion is a sin.”
[al-Hujuraat : 12]

And Abu Hurairah, radi Allahu ‘anhu, reported that Allah’s Messenger, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, said: “Beware of suspicion, for indeed suspicion is the most untruthful form of speech.”

And the ahadeeth with the meaning of what I have mentioned are many. And the meaning of this [the backbiting of the heart] is the heart concluding and judging someone with negative thoughts. But as for passing thoughts and one’s talking to himself, if these thoughts do not remain established and continuous, then he is excused, according to the consensus of the scholars, because he has no choice in this happening, and he has no means of disassociation from them. This is the understanding of what has been estabilished in the authentic texts, as the Prophet said, “Indeed, Allaah has permitted for my Ummah that which their souls whisper to them, so long as they do not speak it out (audibly) or act upon it.”

The scholars said, “This refers to the thoughts that do not establish themselves.” And they said, “This is regardless of whether this thought consists of backbiting or kufr or otherwise. So if kufr crosses someone’s mind, but it is only a thought, without the intent of acting upon it, and he then dismisses this thought immediately, he is not a kaafir, and there is no sin on him.”

We have stated in the chapter on Waswasa the authentic hadeeth in which the Companions said: “‘O Messenger of Allaah! Some of us find things in our thoughts that are too tremendous to speak of .’ So he, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, said, ‘That is the confirmation of Faith.’”
, and others besides that we mentioned there that have the same meaning.

And the reason what we previously mentioned is excused is the impossibility of averting [these kinds of thoughts]. Rather, it is possible to avoid having these thoughts continuously, and this is why the heart’s persistence and fastening itself to these thoughts is forbidden [and not the thoughts themselves].

And whenever these thoughts of backbiting or other sins present themselves to you, it is obligatory on you to repel them by turning away from them and mentioning explanations that will distract from what seems apparent.

Abu Haamid al-Ghazaalee said in al-Ihyaa’, “Should evil thoughts affect your heart, then these are from the whisperings of Shaytaan, which he casts within you. So you must disavow them because Shaytaan is indeed the most evil of evildoers. And Allah has stated:

‘If a wicked person (i.e. faasiq) comes to you with news, then verify it, lest you harm people without realizing it (i.e. out of ignorance) and afterwards you become regretful for what you’ve done .’ [al-Hujuraat : 6].

Thus, it is not permissible for you to believe Iblees. And if there were an presumption that points to evil, and the opposite is possible, then holding negative thoughts is not permissible.

And among the signs of evil thoughts about someone is that your heart changes towards him from the way it used to be, and that you flee from him and find him burdensome. And that you slacken in your consideration towards him, in your hospitality to him, and in your worry when he commits bad deeds. And indeed Shaytaan comes close the heart with the smallest trace of the faults of the people, and he makes you think that [these thoughts] occur due to your sharpness, intelligence and quick alertness, and that the believer sees with the light of Allah [i.e. Allah has led him to this and not Iblees]. But this person is, in actuality, speaking with the deceptions of Shaytaan and his injustice.

And if a just person informs you of [negative things about another Muslim], then neither believe him nor disclaim him, in order that you will not have negative thoughts about either of them.

Whenever some evil thoughts about another Muslim cross your mind, then increase in your consideration towards him and kindness to him, as this will enrage Shaytaan and repel him from you so that he will not cast within you such thoughts out of his fear that you will instead preoccupy yourself with supplication for that person.

And whenever you come to know of a fault in a Muslim based on undoubtable proof, then advise him in secret and do not let Shaytaan deceive you and invite you to backbite about him. And if you admonish him, then do not admonish him while you are happy with your knowledge of his deficiency, so he looks at you with the eyes of esteem and you look at him with belittlement. Rather, intend to free him from sin while you are saddened, just as you are saddened over yourself if a deficiency enters into you. And it is necessary that his abandonment of that deficiency without your admonishment be more beloved to you than his abandoning it after your admonishment. “

 Let's play an arabic game?
Posted by: naseeha - 11-12-2008, 06:11 PM - Forum: Learning Arabic - Replies (21)

Hey ppl, just wanted to bring an interesting way to learn some arabic here. hope this thread spurs some results..

here's the deal: for those who started learning arabic from an english tongue, they would see that MANY arabic nouns actually has a root.

when using dictionaries such as the Hans Wher, it's a bit difficult to find the meanings of such nouns because you actually have to find the root verb and then search for it...

here's what we'll do... I will start off by giving a noun and everyone else guesses what the relevent verb is for instance:

if the noun i give is

Action - عمل

then someone has to give the verb that it is derived from which is: عمل

(This was an easy answer)

then that person who has answered correctly can ask a similar question...

get it...

so let me start off with something fairly simple:

entrance - مدخل

(note you need to write the arabic in here if you dont have an arabic keyboard you can use google translate, or any software available online)
