  Salaam Aleikum?
Posted by: Peace in Ireland - 06-13-2004, 03:54 PM - Forum: Discussion of Beliefs - Replies (12)

I may have alreayd asked this question, but here it goes. What, exactly, does Salaam Aleikum (sorry for the spelling) mean? I use it a lot to greet muslims, but I have no clue what I'm actually saying. Also, is it just for hellos or can you use it for goodbyes? And one more, I've heard some people just say "Salaam" instead of the whole thing. Is that any different than Salaam Aleikum? There, I'm done.

  Honor Killings

Salaam Alaikum!

I just got done reading a chapter in a book (intellectually argued and thoroughly put) on women's place in the public arena. And there was a section written on Honor Killings. I wanted to know what everyone's opinion is concerning Honor Killings. It's a submarine issue that gets little or NO attention in the Muslim world. Let me know what you all think.

  Benefits Of Ayatul Kursi
Posted by: Mutanaqqibah - 06-11-2004, 01:39 PM - Forum: Islam - Replies (3)

assalamu alykum everybody! its been so long since i was here, and im so amazed over the changes. anyway, im glad that we are still here, alhamdulillah. i just wanna share something here that i received from a sister, and i hope it would inspire the readers just as it had inspired me.

Mutanaqqibah

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem.

In the Name of Almighty Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Benefits of the Ayat-ul-Kursi

(Thanks to Sister Isma & Brother Shiyas for forwarding this inspiring article)

It was reported in a local paper in Rochdale (A town of northwest England, north-northeast of Manchester) , of a young woman who was raped down in a small dark alley (A narrow passage between buildings) one evening.

On a separate evening around the same time, a young Muslim woman was walking home from college. Aware that it was getting dark fast, she wanted to get home as soon as possible, so her mother would not be worrying about her being outside alone at night.

The young Muslim girl faced a dilemma. To take the short cut down the same alleyway to avoid getting home after dark, or to take the longer route and have her mother worrying herself sick about her daughters' safety. Conscious of the time, she takes the alleyway.

While the girl is walking down the alley, she sees a rather sinister (threatening evil), a dark figure of a man walking towards her from the other end. As her pace quickens, she begins to read Ayat-ul-kursi for her safety. On passing the man, he makes eye contact but carries on walking.

When the young Muslim girl reaches home she tells her family about this sinister (threatening evil) looking man, they advise her to contact the police, after having read the newspaper article some time before. When she contacts the police they ask her to give a physical description of the man. It matches the description the rape victim had given.

Some days later the young Muslim girl receives a phone call from the police, asking her if she would come down to the police station to identify the man in a line up. Both the rape victim and the Muslim girl pick out the same man. The police are confused; they ask the rapist why he attacked one girl and not the other. In reference to the Muslim girl, he replies 'why would I attack her when she was walking with two huge men on either side of her?'

  The Forty Sacred Hadith
Posted by: Abunuran - 06-10-2004, 08:35 PM - Forum: Islam - Replies (39)

The following is a collection of 40 Hadith Qudsi. But what is Hadith Qudsi and how do they differ from other Hadith?

Hadith Qudsi are the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) as revealed to him by the Almighty Allah. Hadith Qudsi (or Sacred Hadith) are so named because, unlike the majority of Hadith which are Prophetic Hadith, their authority (Isnad) is traced back not to the Prophet but to the Almighty.

Among many definitions given by the early scholars to Sacred Hadith is that of as-Sayyid ash-Sharif al-Jurjani (died in 816 A.H.) in his lexicon At-Tarifat, he says:

"A Sacred Hadith is, as to the meaning, from Allah the Almighty; as to the wording, it is from the messenger of Allah (PBUH). It is that which Allah the Almighty has communicated to His Prophet through revelation or in a dream, and he, peace be upon him, has communicated it in his own words. Thus the Holy Qur'an is superior to it because, besides being revealed, it is His (Allah's) wording."
