100 Authentic Sunnan

Sunan an-Nawm (Sleep)

1. Sleeping on Wudoo'. The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam told al-Baraa' bin ’Aazib, radiallahu 'anh, If you go to your bed, then do your wudoo' (ablution) as you would do it for prayer, then lie on your right" [Agreed upon, No. 6311.]

2. Reading Soorat al-Ikhlaas, al-Falaq and an-Naas before sleeping: From 'Aishah
radiallahu 'anha, the Messenger, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam used to recite "Qul huwallahu ahad", "Qul a'oothu birrabilfalaq" and "Qul a'oothu birrabinnaas" every night when he went to sleep, then wiped his face and whatever he was able from his body, beginning with his head and face, and what faces him from his body, three times". [al-Bukhaari: 5017]

3. Doing takbeer and tasbeeh when going to sleep: 'AN, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said when Faatimah asked him for a servant, "Shall I not lead you to that which is better for you than a servant? If you go to your mattresses, or rest to sleep, then say Allahu Akbarth\rtj-four times, and say subhaan Allah thirty-three times, and say alhamdulilah thirty-three times, for they are better for you than having a servant" [Agreed upon: 6318 8i 6915]

4. Supplicating when awoken from sleep: 'Ubaadah bin as-Saamit, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said: "Anyone awoken in the night and says: Laa Haha ilia Allah, wahdatu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay 'in qadeer, alhamdulilah was-subhaan Allah, wallahu akbar, wa laa hawla wa laa quwata ilia billah, then said, Allahumma aghfirli or invoked Allah, he will be answered, and if he does ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted" [al-Bukhaari: 1154]

5. Supplicating once awake with the following supplication: Alhamdulilah alathee ahyaanaa ba'da maa amatana, wa Hayhin-nushoor (Praise be to Allah Who granted us life after death, and to Flim we will be ressurected) [al-Bukhaari, 6312, from Fluthayfah bin al-Yamaan, radiallahu 'anh\

As-Salaam alaikum,

In many places of the Holy Qur'an, notably Ayat 110 of Surat Ali-Imran (3:110) and Ayat 100 of Surat Tauba (9:100), Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, praised and showed His Pleasure for the Sahaba, the Companions of Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam. They were a people whose actions and behaviors were all in accordance with the Islamic Shari'a... their sense of Generosity, Forgiveness, Justice and Selfless service to Humanity and Worship of Allah were highly exemplary

Tafsir al-Qurtubi.

During his life, Imam Abu abdullah Muhammad Ibn Ahmad al-Qurtubi (d. 671/1273), may Allah be Merciful to him, produced a classic Tafsir of the Holy Qur'an.... which up to now is adjudged as one of the best explanations of the meaning of Allah's Words in the Holy Book. It is my pleasure to share with you the attached English Language translation of his monumental classic work, offered by A'isha Bewley... intended to give us access to the immense learning of Sheikh al-Qurtubi, and illuminate the way of understanding the Holy Qur'an.

The Day Of Resurrection.

As-Salaam alaikum,

In Ayat 87 of Surat Nisa'i of the Holy Qur'an, Allah Ta'ala says:--

      "God! There is no god But He: of a surety He Shall gather you

       together against the Day of Judgement, about which there

      is no doubt. And whose word can be truer than God's?"

Belief in the Final Day is one of the 6 pillars of fath...Imaan...preached by all Prophets. Belief on/in this Day should make us focus on what is our ultimate best interest and act accordingly. In that respect, find hereby attached a copy of Dr. Umar al-Ashqar's work titled: 'The Final Day in the Light Of the Qur'an and Sunnah'... It is a very well researched work, informative and educative on this subject. Enjoy it.

Death and the Grave.

We all know that death is a necessary end for all of us, it will come when it will. The book: 'Sharhus Sudoor' by Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti, may Allah be Merciful to him, is a very illuminating work/discussion on issues regarding death and the grave.

Just what is death, what happens after death before the Day of Mahshar? All these and more are discussed in details in this book, a copy of which is hereby attached.

Be With The Truthful Ones.

As-Salaam alaikum,

In Ayat 119 of Surat Tauba of the Holy Qur'an (9:119), Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah, says:--

"O BELIEVERS! FEAR ALLAH (adopt Taqwa), AND BE WITH THE SAADIQEEN

(the Truthful ones)."

The Saadiqeen are people who have a clear sense of right and wrong, and when truth is presented, they readily accept it. In this regards, I wish to invite your attention to the attached booklet titled:- "THE SAADIQEEN", by Majlisul 'Ulama of South Africa.

The booklet carries lots of advice and admonitions to us from the first generation Awliya; with that in-built capacity to aid us reform ourselves and conduct our lives within the parameters of the Shari'ah... It also reminds us of the Aakhirat and how to prepare for it accordingly. Ohh! we definitely NEED this booklet by our side... open it and see wonders..

Do You Know Yourself?

As-Salaam alaikum,

The Apostle of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said: "He who knows himself, knows his Lord"..ie if he knows himself as perishable, he knows Allah as Everlasting, or if he knows himself as humble, he knows Allah as Almighty, or if he knows himself as a servant, he knows Allah as the Lord. Therefore one who does not know himself is debarred from knowledge of practically all things.

In the attachment to this topic is a file/work by Sayyadi Ibn Arabi, may Allah be pleased with him, on this particular issue... which has been commented upon by so many scholars over the years... but this one from the Sheikh is particularly apt, inspiring and deeply informative/educative. Find time to examine it and thereby know yourself well.

Secret Of Secrets.

May I have the pleasure of sharing the attached 3 files with you, as follows:--

(1) 'Sirr al-Asrar- The Secret of Secrets', by Sheikh Abdulqadir Jilani. It concerns what is needed by the Righteous, who tread on the Way to Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

(2) 'Abu Bakr- The great lover of Allah', by Adam H. Walker. It is the biography of the first Caliph of Islam, about whom the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:-

                             "Love of Abu Bakr and gratitude to him are a duty on everyone of my Ummah" and he also said: "Abu Bakr, you are the one whom Allah has freed from the hell fire."

(3) 'Khadijah bint Khuwaylid': This is a brief bio-data on the first wife of the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, Sayyada Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, may Allah be leased with her. About her, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:-- "She believed in me when no one else did; she accepted Islam when people rejected me; and she helped and comforted me when there was no one else to lend me a helping hand. And it was through her that Allah blessed me with children."

I suggest you find time to go through these 3 files, for the beneficial knowledge contained therein.

Prophetic Guidance For Every Moment.

The 2 attached booklets: --

(1) 'Prophetic Guidance For Every Moment', by Sheikh Umar Husayn al-Khatib and

(2) 'The Sharhus Sudoor', by Imam Jalaludden Suyuti.... are being forwarded for your perusal and study. The first one highlights Prophet Muhammad's guidance/teachings, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, to all of us on literally everything we do...every moment of the day in our life. This comes handy, in fact, given the Divine Directives in the Holy Qur'an, where Allahu, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, says:--

        "SAY (O MESSENGER OF ALLAH): IF YOU LOVE ALLAH, THEN FOLLOW ME AND ALLAH WILL LOVE YOU

         AND FORGIVE YOU YOUR SINS." (3:31) and also: "WHATEVER THE MESSENGER GIVES YOU TAKE IT, AND WHATEVER HE FORBIDS YOU,

                                                                                                         REFRAIN FROM IT." (59:7)

The second book from Imam Suyuti, may Allah be Merciful to him, discusses issues regarding death, the grave, what happens before and after death etc Of course, death is a necessary end, and it will come when it will come...as Ordained by Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah. This booklet helps us prepare for that ultimate event.

Find the time to study both booklets... You will be glad you did.

1) "THE CHAIN OF LIGHT", by Maulana Mujtaba Razvi. It is on comprehensive Seerat (Biography) of Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam.

2) "COMPANY OF AWLIYAA", by Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad. It is often said that Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah, is found by sitting in the company of His Friends.. the

Awliyaa. How? one may ask. Find out just how in this booklet.

3) "ANAL-HAQQ RE-CONSIDERED":- In 922 CE a Muslim mystic, Sayyadi Mansur Hallaj was executed for an alleged blasphemy. In this submission, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid gives an account of this event.. was the execution justified?
