Stories of the Prophets on Relief After Hardship

The prophets faced severe trials with patience and faith, and relief came to them from God. Here are some stories illustrating this:

  Jacob faced the trial of losing his son, Joseph (Yusuf), for many years. His grief led him to lose his sight from excessive weeping. Eventually, God restored both his son and his sight, bringing relief when all hope seemed lost.

- Prophet Job (Ayub)
  Job was tested with severe illness and the loss of all his children. His situation became so dire that his wife sold her hair to feed them. Job called upon God, and God responded, restoring his health and blessing him with more children and wealth than he had lost.

- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
  The Prophet Muhammad endured significant hardship in his mission. He was besieged in the Valley of Abu Talib for three years, during which he and his followers survived on leaves and animal hides due to the oppression by Quraysh. Relief came when a termite ate the oppressive agreement against them. During the Battle of the Trench, various tribes allied against him, causing fear and hardship for the Muslims. Yet, God sent a strong wind that scattered the enemies' camps, bringing relief to the believers.

- Imam Bukhari
  Imam Bukhari, famous for compiling the authentic sayings of the Prophet, lost his sight in childhood. His mother, in her grief, prayed fervently for his sight to be restored. One night, she dreamt of Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) telling her that her son's sight would be returned due to her prayers. The next morning, his sight was restored by God's grace.

- Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal
  During the ordeal of the "createdness" of the Quran, Imam Ahmad refused to say that the Quran was created, as it is God's word. He endured severe torture for his stance. Despite attempts to coerce him, he remained steadfast. When tensions rose against the Caliph in Tartus, the Caliph planned to kill Imam Ahmad. However, while Ahmad prayed not to meet the Caliph, the Caliph died suddenly, granting Ahmad relief.]]>

Chapter 1: Preface

Reflect on everything around you on Earth: the objects, plants, insects, animals, birds, and fish. Observe how they all have precise systems that govern and guide their existence. Look above you at the sun, moon, planets, stars, clouds, and winds, all functioning accurately and serving life on Earth.

Consider yourself, your organs, and your intricate body systems working together to ensure your well-being. Who created all these marvelous things and established their precise systems? The Creator and Sustainer of all these creatures is One: Allah, the only true God.

It is logical to acknowledge this fact, recognize our Creator and Provider, be grateful to Him, and submit ourselves to His wise and merciful guidance. Our Creator has endowed us with intellect to understand and the freedom to choose the right path.

Allah has shown us the right path through His messengers, with the final messenger being Muhammad and His Books, culminating in the Qur’an. We have two choices before us: one leading to bliss in this life and the Hereafter—Islam, and the other leading to misery in this world and eternal punishment in the Hereafter. The choice is ours. May Allah guide us to the Right Path! Aameen.

The Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said:- ''No, do your part for what is pre-ordained for one has been made
                                                                                easy for him. If he is fortunate, the path of goodness has been
                                                                                smoothened for him but if he is doomed, evil deeds are equally facile to him.''

He then recited the ayat/verse: ''But as for him who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), and accepts whatever is good,
                                                         We surely will smoothen the path of happiness.''  (Bukhari and Muslim).]]>   Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, quotes the Noble Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, as having said:--

 Virtuous; do good works;  strictly observe the rules imposed upon us by Allah;
 Perform supererogatory acts of piety;  mind our speech ( in particular avoid slander,
 backbiting even if our words are true),  dispense pious advice to our neighbors, 
 feed the poor and hungry,  clothe the naked,  forgive people their misdeeds, be patient
 in the face of afflictions, practice humility, maintain ritual purity, be considerate of your
 fellow Muslims, Remember Allah often and hold Allah's Friends (Awliya) in high esteem.

 And a certain wise man has mentioned that Allah's acceptance of Tauba (Repentance) can be recognized by 4 signs as follows:--

 (1) A person guards his tongue from futile talk, lying and backbiting.

 (2) He habours no jealousy or enmity for anyone.

(3) He forsakes evil company.

(4) He prepares for death, is always remorseful, always repenting and always obedient to Allah's Orders.

  Just as when a piece of iron when exposed and immersed in tremendous heat of fire annihilates its own identity and become lost in the color and quality of fire, similarly the Noble Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, lost his own self-hood in the fire of Divine Love, and attained his highest degree of Khilafat or ambassador and thus through him, the Attributes of Allah Ta'ala were made manifest.

 Thus his seeing, hearing, and speaking is/are that of the Divine's. That is why Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, says about the Prophet:--

     ''You did not slay them, but Allah slayed them; and in no way did you
       throw when you threw, but Allah threw.''  (8:17)

      "The Prophet doesn't speak out of his own volition, his speech is
        revelation revealed.'' (53:3)

Through the Prophet, alaihi salaat was-salaam, Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes were manifested fully, that is why following the Prophet is made equivalent of following Allah, where the Qur'an declares:--

       ''He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah.'' (4:80)

Also. by the bestowal of Almighty Allah, the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, had within himself manifest the Divine Attributes which are supernatural from ordinary human standard... for example, he said:--

      ''Allah has folded the entire earth in front of me. So I can simultaneously observe everything
       from its east to its west.''  (Sahih Muslim) and..

      ''Allah has placed this worldly manifestation in such a mysterious way in front of my eyes that
       whatever will be created until the Day of Judgement, I can see as if they are right on top of my palm.'' (Tabarani)

From this, we deduce that from the subtlety of his haqiqat, space and time boundaries are made null and void... everything is made present simultaneously. Allah's mystical manifestation (Tajalli) to His Prophet was in his power of hearing and seeing. That is why he said: ''I can see what you cannot see, I can hear what you cannot hear.''  (Ahmad and Tirmidhi).]]>
  Just as when a piece of iron when exposed and immersed in tremendous heat of fire annihilates its own identity and become lost in the color and quality of fire, similarly the Noble Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, lost his own self-hood in the fire of Divine Love, and attained his highest degree of Khilafat or ambassador and thus through him, the Attributes of Allah Ta'ala were made manifest.

 Thus his seeing, hearing, and speaking is/are that of the Divine's. That is why Allah, Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, says about the Prophet:--

     ''You did not slay them, but Allah slayed them; and in no way did you
       throw when you threw, but Allah threw.''  (8:17)

      "The Prophet doesn't speak out of his own volition, his speech is
        revelation revealed.'' (53:3)

Through the Prophet, alaihi salaat was-salaam, Allah's Beautiful Names and Attributes were manifested fully, that is why following the Prophet is made equivalent of following Allah, where the Qur'an declares:--

       ''He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah.'' (4:80)

Also. by the bestowal of Almighty Allah, the Prophet, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, had within himself manifest the Divine Attributes which are supernatural from ordinary human standard... for example, he said:--

      ''Allah has folded the entire earth in front of me. So I can simultaneously observe everything
       from its east to its west.''  (Sahih Muslim) and..

      ''Allah has placed this worldly manifestation in such a mysterious way in front of my eyes that
       whatever will be created until the Day of Judgement, I can see as if they are right on top of my palm.'' (Tabarani)

From this, we deduce that from the subtlety of his haqiqat, space and time boundaries are made null and void... everything is made present simultaneously.         being created a human being; also to the one who has given up his self-regard,
        yet does not beg for favors; to the generous one who spends freely for Allah's
        sake from what he possesses; to the one who is compassionate to those in need;
        to the one who seeks the company of the wise and knowledgeable.

        I bring good tidings to the one who gains his livelihood lawfully with his own hands;
        to the one who cleanses his heart; to the one whose inner beauty shines in his face;
        to the one who holds back his anger; to the one who does not say what is not to be
        said; and to the knower who acts upon his knowledge.''   (Tabarani)

 May we be among those being addressed as recipients of these glad tidings, ameen.

   ''Do you know who the bankrupt person is?''  They said: ''A bankrupt man amongst us is one who has neither
    dirham with him nor wealth.''  He said: ''The bankrupt person of my nation would be he who comes on the Day
    of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and Zakat but he hurled abuses upon this person, brought calumny
   against that person, unlawfully consumed the wealth of that person, shed the blood of that person, and beat
   that person. So his good deeds would be credited to the deeds of those people [by way of retaliation] and if
   his good deeds fall short to clear the account, their sins would be added to his and he would be thrown in the Fire.'
                                                                                                                                                    (Sahih Muslim No. 2581/6579).

Be mindful, do not be bankrupt.]]>

1. Sleeping on Wudoo'. The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam told al-Baraa' bin ’Aazib, radiallahu 'anh, If you go to your bed, then do your wudoo' (ablution) as you would do it for prayer, then lie on your right" [Agreed upon, No. 6311.]

2. Reading Soorat al-Ikhlaas, al-Falaq and an-Naas before sleeping: From 'Aishah
radiallahu 'anha, the Messenger, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam used to recite "Qul huwallahu ahad", "Qul a'oothu birrabilfalaq" and "Qul a'oothu birrabinnaas" every night when he went to sleep, then wiped his face and whatever he was able from his body, beginning with his head and face, and what faces him from his body, three times". [al-Bukhaari: 5017]

3. Doing takbeer and tasbeeh when going to sleep: 'AN, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said when Faatimah asked him for a servant, "Shall I not lead you to that which is better for you than a servant? If you go to your mattresses, or rest to sleep, then say Allahu Akbarth\rtj-four times, and say subhaan Allah thirty-three times, and say alhamdulilah thirty-three times, for they are better for you than having a servant" [Agreed upon: 6318 8i 6915]

4. Supplicating when awoken from sleep: 'Ubaadah bin as-Saamit, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said: "Anyone awoken in the night and says: Laa Haha ilia Allah, wahdatu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay 'in qadeer, alhamdulilah was-subhaan Allah, wallahu akbar, wa laa hawla wa laa quwata ilia billah, then said, Allahumma aghfirli or invoked Allah, he will be answered, and if he does ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted" [al-Bukhaari: 1154]

5. Supplicating once awake with the following supplication: Alhamdulilah alathee ahyaanaa ba'da maa amatana, wa Hayhin-nushoor (Praise be to Allah Who granted us life after death, and to Flim we will be ressurected) [al-Bukhaari, 6312, from Fluthayfah bin al-Yamaan, radiallahu 'anh\]]> Sunan an-Nawm (Sleep)
