Evangelist remains critical of Islam

T he Rev. Franklin Graham, who outraged Muslims in 2001 when he said that Islam "is a very evil and wicked religion," told an interviewer for Wednesday's edition of ABC News "Nightline" that he hasn't changed his mind about the faith.

Asked by ABC correspondent John Donvan whether Muslim groups had succeeded in altering his outlook about Islam, Graham said "No."

"Do they want to indoctrinate me? Yes. I know about Islam. I don't need an education from Islam," he said. "If people think Islam is such a wonderful religion, just go to Saudi Arabia and make it your home. Just live there. If you think Islam is such a wonderful religion, I mean, go and live under the Taliban somewhere. I mean, you're free to do that."

Franklin Graham is the successor to his father as head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, based in Charlotte, N.C. He was interviewed Sunday in New Orleans, where Franklin and Billy were leading an evangelistic festival.

The younger Graham angered Muslims after the Sept. 11 attacks when he told NBC News: "We're not attacking Islam but Islam has attacked us. The God of Islam is not the same God. He's not the son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It's a different God, and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion."

In a subsequent Wall Street Journal piece, Graham wrote that he doesn't think Muslim believers "are evil people because of their faith. But I decry the evil that has been done in the name of Islam, or any other faith - including Christianity."

That article said "the persecution or elimination of non-Muslims has been a cornerstone of Islamic conquests and rule for centuries." Graham said the Quran "provides ample evidence that Islam encourages violence in order to win converts and to reach the ultimate goal of an Islamic world."

Some of Graham's fellow evangelicals subsequently expressed concern that his comments might endanger Christian missionaries working in Muslim countries, strain interfaith relations and make America's war on terrorism seem to be a Christian crusade against Islam.

Billy Graham has avoided such comments about Islam and President Bush has consistently depicted mainstream Islam as a religion of peace.

Another U.S. evangelist, the Rev. Pat Robertson, said of militant Muslims on his Monday telecast: "These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it's time we recognize what we're dealing with."

"The goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination," he said.

Peace......

The sad thing is, someone somewhere will believe these two idiots speak for all those who profess Christianity as a religion....they do not. Jesus Christ in the book of Matthew 7:15 warns his followers about such men saying:

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves
."

In the book of Acts (20:29) the Apostle Paul, when speaking to the elders of Ephesus warned them:

"For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock."

I say this to say, that these two men fit this description to the letter. And it is indeed sad that they have the public's ear which they use to expouse such hateful speech.

We've had that moron from the British Nationalist Party spouting something along similar lines.

Islam isn't a wicked faith, but some of the people who profess to follow Islam are wicked. There's a difference, but their own bigotry won't let them see it.

TBH it would be nice if we could round up all the the stupid christians and all the stupid muslims, put them in a big field somewhere, and let them beat the crap out of each other, while the rest of the world, muslim and christian, gets on with life.

Historical note:

Hitler was born to a christian family, but wasn't a christian himself. He did fact try to abolish all religion in Germany (afterall, how can there be a god, if the Aryans really are the master race?), but with the war looming he held back as he couldn't risk revolt from the catholics in Germany.

And the crusades had as disasterous effect on the christian nations as it did the muslim countries. There where no wars in europe, so we had lots of very bored knights spoiling for a fight, then someone had the idea of going to the middle east. Richard the Lionheart, venerated as a hero in english history books, was a Frenchman who couldn't speak a word of English, and only saw England as his own private piggy-bank. He bled England dry to fund his crusade, and thousands starved to death trying to meet his high taxes

Hold on naseeha, there are muslims who share the same idea, or let me say they call themselves Muslims.

I found this reply and thought it would be relevant here to use, and John is correct. What is needed here is to address the issues and explain the Ayahs pertinent to them rather than comparing with other sources of violence around the world. Matter of fact, violence is established side by side since even humanity was created.

John.....

he wasn't born.....

it was a figure of speech.. come on get with it...

furthermore... as for the excesses.... the point is... alot of things have been done by people muslims AND OTHERWISE...... in the name of islam... and they want to call the muslims terrorists.. that's kinda stupid when you seee that the western concept of slavery was borne in the minds of the christians.... subhanallah....

so the thing is.. they want to speak sooo much about islam and the muslims... but would not make mention of that... they are saying things and have done worse.... that is the height of hypocracy...

as for the refutations.... i wont even bother... why???? because muslims are faced with these things everyday... and to take heed of this ignorant man would be to give him a voice...

my point was... to show that he is saying everything onesided....

a classic example of one who is of the ignorant...

arclight...

point taken about hitler... i stand corrected till furter evidence comes....

as for the crusades... i understand your point... but it still doesnt change the fact that these knights also followed christianity and used that as their justification..... the same can be said for some muslims....

so when these people decide to launch their attacks... what i want to know is why do they say these things without reflecting their own sins...

and when we show them a balanced view... "certain ppl" would come to the forefront and ask why we show the excesses of christianity... the hypocracy in it is that they want to talk of others and they themselves are seriously lacking.... geez..... they distort the info....

obstinate shayateen...

please note...

i am not against christians... some of my closest friends are christians... i am against hyprocracy and this kind of behaviour... i dont mind those who look at things from a wholesome veiw and unbiased.... but those who make these statements are quite frankly..... foolish....

Quote:You are pretty one sided yourself.

In a thread that has started with views on one side views expressed to balance that would have to be one sided.......

dont you think???? common sense man lol..

and as far as refutations go... i have already enough on this forum to deal with... in that .. my research for any agreements or refutations goes somewhere else... maybe you would like to join that thread....

i dont have the time to go research everysingle thing that i see on this board.... i am a busy man... right now actually i am at work...

if you have alot of time.......... and you seem to have alot....

then you could do that....

why should i spend my time doing this refutations when there are more important things to be done... here and elsewhere....

think holistically john...

arclight, i remember u making a comment on another thread regarding this Rev. Franklin Graham having no aim but to increase his bank account thru different means.

Well Quran says so, so we are not surprised. here is the Ayah, i just prefered to post it here:

"O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of humankind in falsehood,
and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah (i.e. Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver [and other wealth], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them a painful torment." (Quran 9:34)
