Prophets of God
#1

Peace....

I've seen it stated by muslims and read in quran that muslims believe in all the prophets sent by God. However I notice mention is only made of Moses, Noah, Lot, Abraham, and Jesus Christ. There are many prophets between Abraham and the comming of Jesus Christ. Are the other prophets not known, not acknowledged or not worth mentioning? I'm interesting in knowing the muslim view of say Isaiah or Malachi, or even John the forerunner of Jesus Christ.

Some are mentioned in the hadith.... Like john the baptiste... (called yahya) joseh (yahya) their names are quoted in arabic so some of them you may not recognise...

but in any event.... the amount of prophets that came are so numerous.. that mention of them would be too much.... the purpose of the quran is not to name prophets... but much more than that... the quran contains parables from the lives of the prophets.. in order to teach a lesson... if the stories of all these prophets were to be revealed... you can see how many of these lessons can be repeated many times over and become redundant....

based on that... it is not necessary to call the names of these ppl

Naseeha, if you, or any others on this board, can find for me where John the Baptist is mentioned in the Hadith that would be appreciated. I cannot find them in the online database I use. I would be interested in seeing the Islamic view point on him.

As for mentioning every prophet, you're correct, it would be a large volume indeed. I ask because there are certain prophets, Isaiah and Malachi for instance, who fortold the comming of Christ and his mission. I wanted to know if muslims also, believed in the message brought by these two men of God.

Brother Naseeha, just one small correction, as you wrote John the Bapist is called Yahya but Joseph is called Yusuf in Arabic. Sure you wore almost sleeping when you wrote it :)

Peace

Not very much is written about any of the prophets as brother Naseeha already mentioned. If I remember correctly only 25 of the prophets are mentioned by name in the Quran.

Here you can read about prophet Yayha pbuh

Bismillah

let me try to help here, Shamms here are a number of Quran Ayahs where Yahia is mentioned by name and how he got this name from Allah as being the first to be called so which is an honor of course:

"Then the angels called him,

while he was standing in prayer

in a private place, (saying):

"Allah gives you glad tidings of John,

confirming the Word,

noble (will he be),

keeping away from illicit sexual relations,

a Prophet from among the righteous. "(Quran 3:39)

"(Allah said) "O Zachariah! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be John. We have given that name to none before (him)."(Quran 19:7)

"(It was said to his son): "O John! Hold fast the Scripture [the Torah]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child." (Quran 19:12)

"So We answered his call, and We bestowed upon him John, and cured his wife (to bear a child) for him. Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us."
(Quran 21:90)

Thanks for the references, it doesn't seem to deviate much from the account given in the New Testiment.
