Facebook, blogging..etc
#1

Bismillah

as salam alykom

what is the reason behind using them:

Is it:

Personalization.

Socialization.

Feeling ownership.

Personal probagation.

Presenting one's skills.

Learning.

Presenting one's opinions.

Prefer individualism rather than team work.

Spreading personal ideology, religion, opinions.

Self expression.

This should be an interesting topic.

Of course if there are any other reasons, pls list them, we can actually come up with a very important study here.

People love to observe, themselves and others.

They also love to communicate, gossip, reminisce, flatter themselves, etc.

These technologies are just extensions of what people already do. I used to joke that grandmothers would always carry a photo-album of her grandchildren, to show any stranger unlucky enough to be passing by. Now kids do the same thing, except the photo album is an iPod. Facebook is basically the same thing, but it is a more personal connection. Facebook has the potential to change the world because of the way it humanizes everyone. Most of what is on Twitter is a joke. I use it to record thoughts I have. Kind of like an internet scratchpad. It is generally meaningless texting that anyone can read, instead of a few people.

YouTube is an interesting phenomenon. The variety of speech it contains is overwhelming, from the erudite to the inane.

Ah, the mirror. Everything always comes back to the mirror.

Because i m trying to create a long list, I will try to grasp what Steve and Suhail said and pls correct me:

Steve sees that those new media platforms (social networks) are means of communicating gossiping, reminisce and self flattering.

Suhail sees them as time wasting.

Like everything else in this world, the skill is not in the tool, but in the hand that holds it.

The world is full of masters and apprentices. So if you ask, 'what can we make from this clay?' you will get different results.

I like facebook because we live far from our families and it is an easy way to share family photos with them no matter where they are. They can keep track of the kids development and so on.

I think it has different reasons for different people.

some to put their thoughts out for the world

some for large families to communicate to each other in a light, non-committal manner

some are plain exhibitionists, and want to see how immodest they can be

some for picking up women

some for spreading islam, or any other religion, ideology, business product, etc

for me, i just like posting serious stuff to combat a lot of the foolishness i see on the web

maybe it will jar some brains that are stuck on stupid
