Stages of the soul
#1

(Assalam)

I have been hearing about the three stages of the soul alot lately and i was wondering if anyone who knows more about it can tell me.. here's what i have heard thus far...

the three stages are:

1] Nafs Ammarah : this is the soul at the very lowest stage. it is prone to evil and is described as animalistic...

(i forgot the quranic reference for this can someone please tell me if they know....

2] Nafs Lawwammah : this is the self reproaching soul. It is where the person has an awareness of wrong and right and would reproach himself/herself if he has done wrong or is inclined to do wrong.

(quran suratul qiyamah: 2

3] Nafs Mutmainnah: this is the soul that has gained excellence.

(quran suratul fajr: 27)

This is as much as i know can anyone please tell me if they know more on this topic...

As for now, nafs is not the soul, soul is the Ruh which is actually the source of life which if taken away we die immediately. But nafs could be best described as the inner self or ego.

The three stages u brought up are correct, Insh a Allah I will come up with more specially ayahs to support it.

Jazakum Allah khairan

Yusuf

[53] "Nor do I absolve my own self (of blame): the (human) soul is certainly prone to evil, unless my lord do bestow His Mercy: but surely my Lord is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

(Assalam) our dear brother AbuNoran

welcome back and Alhamdulelah u joined us again.

I am sure that our senior members will be just as thrilled as I am for your appearence on the forum.

Ok here u go naseeha, in addition to what AbuNoran brought:

. "And I free not myself (from the blame). Verily, the (human) self is inclined to evil,:” (Quran 12:53) I know he already posted it.

“They are but names which you have named - you and your fathers - for which Allâh has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire ” (Quran 53:23)

Those who follow hawan nafs. In other words, the referrence here is for the nafs that drags the person not the other way around.

“And keep yourself (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) patiently with those who call on their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with glorification, praising in prayers, and other righteous deeds) morning and afternoon, seeking His Face” (18:28). Yes the Ayah is addressing Mohamed, but also in arabic it is nafsak. IN this ayah a remedy to be used in order to control the nasf which is to keep company with do dkhikr.

“. (It will be said to the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction!

28. "Come back to your Lord well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)!” (Quran 89:27-28)

This is the nasf motma-nah

N.B Insh aAllah just take the ayahs, later I will come back with more comments
