Suhail by the way, I checked again about Salafis following Imams or not, I found out they do at least here in Egypt. Still I like to call myself a Muslima

most of it, here we follow imam shafie. although its not 100% entirely. i asked my mom, she said we follow quite a mix of imams. as u know, there r some contradicting fatwas... so... they say just follow any of them. but still the basics like solat, fast, etc... is done like what the quran stated. basically the rule is, as long as it's not against quran & hadith... just choose any good fatwa u think is best.

the people here is so nice. in other forums, missiles are thrown my way if i say something unpopular. anyway, if i make mistakes, just lemme know ok. thanks...

We are all here to learn honeycomb... as long as you mean well no offence should be taken....

alhamdulillah... I share your views, and i know that they will be unpopular... But as long as your actions are Fii sabiilillah you can never go wrong...

Like you I dont like when ppl make these divisions among the ummah... It really upsets me...

But sometimes it gets really rough...

I mean this guy came to me when I was in high school a few years ago... and asked me what madhab i follow...

when he asked this i was more confused than anything...

I heard of these madhabs... But i am soo limited in knowledge... How can i say that i follow a particular madhab when i have not fully understood the contributions of each of the four imams, How can i say that i follow any one of them when i have not dedicated any time to actually studying their lives... I recognise that alot of muslim follow madhabs and do not know much about the four imams, they just say "I am hanafi" or "I am maliki" etc... just because they go to a mosque where the imam follows this madhab or because their forefathers followed this...

Now when this brther asked me this question... for days i pondered about it. and finally answered him..

"i follow the madhab of rasul allah (salallahu alaihi wa sallam)"

upon hearing this he turned up his nose in a snobbish manner and said <i>"OH!!! So you are one of those..."</i>

brothers and sisters dont get me wrong... I am not advocating that following a madhab is wrong... but what i am saying is.... Do not make a statement saying <i>"i belong to such and such madhab"</i> when you have not fully understood the contribution of these imams....

They were really great ppl Subhanallah...

imam abu hanifa and imam malik.... Subhanallah..... great scholars...

Imam ash shafii... he has one of the most prolific minds in islamic history... <i>he memorised malik's muwatta in a week!!!!</i>

Imam ahmad ibn hanbal he was persecuted for his views....

Please my beloved brothers and sisters.... Please see my point...

Many ppl follow one madhab and do not even entertain the views of other imams...

let us not fall into this trap...

if you say that you follow a madhab then alhamdulillah... go ahead bro/sis good... barakallahu fiiih

as for me i still have to learn more about islam...

all praises to Allah, <i>alhamdulillah</i>... i'm happy you like it. I'm sorry you had to endure that, though. I'm also limited in knowledge about madhab. maybe some of our brothers & sisters can let us know more. also i think you have a cunning answer there - "i follow the madhab of rasul allah (salallahu alaihi wa sallam)".

anyway, this morning I watched a TV programme, & the panel said that the <i>ulama</i> never ever differ in the obvious islamic law. not once, at all. but they do differ in those blurry laws. u know. & that differences will always be there till armageddon day. so we can't really help it - differences of opinion will always occur. but the thing is, how we behave on the differences. he said we have to respect others opinions.

AND fortunately, he said this differences can be good as muslims, as we can choose a <i>fatwa</i> that is easier for us. either fatwa can be used, as both are thought by religious scholars, with its own basis. he said maybe, this is actually God's gift to make our life easier - to choose a law that's easier for us.

I just wanna know because i am sooooo confused on the whole topic... i have limited knowledge and ppl jus come telling me this... i wish they would concentrate on tauhid and the like... just for ppl with little knowledge such as my self

honestly, i never really experience problems with madhab here in my country. so i don't really know how people in other countries might differ in madhab -- how extreme they can go. so i guess, if the madhab is from a very good & very established imam (eg: the 4 imams)... its ok. even the imams were nice to each other, right. so it shouldn't be any problem for us to be nice to each other too...

but if the differences makes enemy & hatred in us, i think that's not very good is it... anyway wallahu a'lam, naseeha...

well sister as you are totally correct... there is no problem in following a madhab strictly, the problem however arises when we start hating each other for the sake of madhab....

I see no problem in following a madhab but we must understand that we need to keep an open mind and heart to hear what the other madhab says.... who knows maybe one imam can correct the mistakes of another....

the 1st thing that iam not creating any arguments here ........as a matter of fact i dont say either which sect i.e. Shia or Sunnism is MORE superior (iam a Sunni).....

Ok i have seen in my country & some other Shia's tooo........<b>they put a piece of round clay (something like that) at the place where we do our 'sujood' & there's something also written on that round thing too............may be Kaliph Ali's name</b>...........i have NEVER heard Prophet Muhammed(saw) doing that thing !

Am i right??:confused:

U r very much right shereen, they believe that they have to make sujud only on dust from Karbela-a where Hussain was killed. Of course nothing in sunnah say that but rather the Messenger (PAPBUH) said earth was made for me masjed and purity.

about Salat Ishraq or Duha as we call it, it is Sunnah to pray two Raka`a at least ( u may make 4, 6 or 8) as u wish, and when u do that according to hadeeth u have thanked Allah for your organs.
