Can someone explain what he said in his book, satanic verses, to illicite such a response from the muslim world? I have been told that unless you understand islam, you cannnot fully understand why it is so offensive. Can someone clue me in? a link even would be helpful

The author of The Satanic Verses, a text written, edited, and published against Islam, against the Prophet of Islam, and against the Koran, So it is not a proper source to discover Islam Phat.

I dont think he means to discover Islam from there, he wants to understand the reasons behind the Muslims reaction, am I not correct Phat?

well simply because in his book he slandered the Messenger (PAPBUH), almost doubted his Prophethood, and more.

It was just normal to receive this reaction from Muslims Phat

Yes, that was what I was asking. Was it really so blasphemist as to call for a price to be put on his head? Was that simply a single ayotollah, or did many muslims feel that he should be put to death? Do muslims, in general, view literary works differently than in the west?

Has he spoken on why he would do such a thing? I am having a tough time finding pages that discuss this in very much detail.

well Ayatollah at that time was head of a state that applied Sharia, that is why he issued this fatwa, I did not of course read the book, but as far as i remember thru press reviews, yes he did slander the Messenger (PAPBUB) badly as well as his wives. See Phat, in Islam all Prophets and Messengers are well respected and highly regarded, not only Mohamed (PAPBUH). For example, long time ago someone made me watch 10 commandements which was not allowed to be shown in Egypt or any other Muslim country simply the movie protrayed Moses (PAPBUH) as a play boy kissing women around and more, they even included a sound (may Allah forgive me for even watching part of it), of Allah, all this is against Islamic teachings. As far as the rest of the Muslim world, there are Muslim Phat who are not well versed in the teachings of the religion which certainly create concusion to people like u, they simply called for freedom of speach etc. But in Islam, u r free to talk yes but not to transgree, besides u r certainly held responsbile for what u say.

I would include an Ayah of Quran, but sometimes u get itchy about this.

So yes literary is a sort of temptation, people may just get carried out and write aiming for attraction, then they are in much trouble with Allah. some even write to ignite hot debate also to gain attention and reputation. But we must write what is of benefit to us and other muslims.

Mash a Allah Phat u exactly got the objective, and I was not trying to sound like I dont want to answer saying it is an old issue, I was trying to tell u I had difficulty remembering and making execuse for not giving complete answers

i read a little part of this book... what rushdie did was that he put forward a story about a man named "muhammad" and gabriel..

the story is aimed to mock the prophet of allah (salallahu alaihi wa sallam). all characters are those that surrounded the prophet (salallahu alaihi wa sallam). I think rushdie meant to put forward the book in a way to seem as though he made it up. but he also tried his best to slander the rasuul..

i would not mention the really stupid things that he said in his book because it would just make things bad... but after reading what how he slandered our prophet (salallahu alaihi wa sallam) and his wives (especially aisha)one would really want him to pay for his deeds...

but remember

"allah is swift in calling to account"(surah ibrahim)

allah will deal with him justly...

sorry I did not read this book. I dont like waste my time with this book.

The book is very filthy with foul language. It talks about the Prophet and his wives in most offensive and abusive way!!!
