Everyone has dreams good and bad. I want to know wots the islamic propective abt dreams? Are you allowed to analyse your dreams to see wot the meaning of dem are.

Someone tld me that he heard in sum talk he wnt to dat if u see urself dieing in ur dreams dat means in reality u die to. He also said that he heard that if u see urself fallin of a cliff jst before u land you will wake up. When u dream ur spirit comes out of you and all the people that r in ur dream will have a smiliar dream but from thier own view piont. Is ne of this true or not.

yeah thats sort of true a non muslim told me that there was someone who died in there sleep ... and she said that when ur dreaming about falling off a cliff and u wake up thats ok but when u fall of a cliff and die in ur sleep thast when ur dead ..... i know know if anything i said is of relevance but i just remebered what someone told me...bcoz i have dreams like that when i driving and im about to hit summat but i wake up and stuff like that ..........about the analyzing part well......i dont know ...... ne way did u dream u fell off a cliff ???? ....how wierd .... i bet u woke up with bruises ...

I have dreamt that I have died in my dreams many times. One in particular I was shot in the head and felt my blood draining from my body. I went black as I died in my dream. I woke up though and it has been many years since I had that dream.

our prophet Muhammad peace be upon him taught us some supplications regarding dreams:

<b>- Upon experiencing unrest, fear, apprehensiveness and the like during sleep.</b>

"I take refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the madness and appearance of devils."

<b>-Upon seeing a good dream or a bad dream:</b>

"The righteous dream is from Allah and the bad dream is from the devil, so if anyone sees something which pleases him then he should only relate it to one whom he loves...

summary of what to do upon having a bad dream:

1- spit on your left three times.

2- seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan and the evil of what you saw three times.

3- do not relate it to anyone.

4- turn and sleep on the opposite side to which you were sleeping on previously.

5- get up and pray if you so desire.

I was just at an Islamic bookstore, and I purchased a book there that gives interpretations for many different dreams. Is it an OK thing to interpret dreams with something like this, or should we just leave it?

The prophet would ask people about their dreams and their interpretations so I do not think there is anything wrong with it Islamically.

I have done my own research on dreams though. In order to interpret dreams one must know the symbols that the mind uses. Each person's symbols are personalized. What one symbol means for a person may have completely different connotations for another.

The best method to become versed in dream interpretation is to keep a dream journal. Upon waking when a dream is most fresh, write down as many details as possible about the previous night's dreams. I did this journal for only a couple of days but I found that it made me remember my dreams alot more and made me more conscious in my dreams. Eventually (I did not get this far), you will notice patterns emerging, which leads to greater dream understanding.

Discussing this makes me want to start a journal again. I have some crazy dreams.

I did some research on hadith about dreams in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim.

Bukhari:

Volume 9, Book 87, Number 143:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

I saw in a dream a piece of silken cloth in my hand, and in whatever direction in Paradise I waved it, it flew, carrying me there. I narrated this (dream) to (my sister) Hafsa and she told it to the Prophet who said, (to Hafsa), "Indeed, your brother is a righteous man," or, "Indeed, 'Abdullah is a righteous man."

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 255:

Narrated Nafi:

Ibn 'Umar said, "In the life-time of the Prophet I dreamt that a piece of silk cloth was in my hand and it flew with me to whichever part of Paradise I wanted. I also saw as if two persons (i.e. angels) came to me and wanted to take me to Hell. Then an angel met us and told me not to be afraid. He then told them to leave me. Hafsa narrated one of my dreams to the Prophet and the Prophet said, "Abdullah is a good man. Would that he offer the night prayer (Tahajjud)!" So after that day 'Abdullah (bin 'Umar) started offering Tahajjud. The companions of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) used to tell him their dreams that (Laila-tul-Qadr) was on the 27th of the month of Ramadan. The Prophet said, "I see that your dreams agree on the last ten nights of Ramadan and so whoever is in search of it should seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Volume 3, Book 32, Number 232:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Allah's Apostle said, "It seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan)."

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 15:

Narrated 'Aisha:

Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You have been shown to me twice in (my) dreams. A man was carrying you in a silken cloth and said to me, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered it; and behold, it was you. I said to myself, 'If this dream is from Allah, He will cause it to come true.' "

These are only a few of the hadith that show that the companions and Rasul-ullah would narrate to one another dreams that they had experienced.

From Bukhari:

Volume 9, Book 87, Number 112:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Allah's Apostle said, "A good dream (that comes true) of a righteous man is one of forty-six parts of prophetism."

From Muslim:

Book 029, Number 5632:

Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The pious dreams are the seventieth part of Prophecy.

The only part of prophecy that our ummah has left are dreams. According to this hadith from Bukhari we SHOULD share them if they are good:

Volume 9, Book 87, Number 114:

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:

The Prophet said, "If anyone of you sees a dream that he likes, then it is from Allah, and he should thank Allah for it and narrate it to others; but if he sees something else, i.e., a dream that he dislikes, then it is from Satan, and he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and he should not mention it to anybody, for it will not harm him."

Also from Bukhari:

Volume 9, Book 87, Number 113:

Narrated Abu Qatada:

The Prophet said, "A true good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan."

I also found the hadith to which wel mel was referring in Sahih Muslim:

Book 029, Number 5618:

Abu Qatada reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The good vision are from Allah and the evil dreams are from the satan. If one sees a dream which one does not like, one should spit on one's left side and seek the refuge of Allah from the satan; it will not do one any harm, and one should not disclose it to anyone and if one sees a good vision one should feel pleased but should not disclose it to anyone but whom one loves.

From these hadith, my guess is that one can share good dreams with muslims because we are supposed to love each other. Correct?

whoever said dont discuss dreams on the forum is correct and i will tell you why.

First off try to purchase Abu Aminah Bilal Phillips book "Dream Interpretations"

It is according to Qur'aan and Sunnah strictly.

Second of all, there are three categories of dreams:

1) From Allaah

as a blessing and both Muslims and non-Muslims can see these good dreams, they have excellent meaning lessons, etc.

2) From your own unconscious thoughts or feelings depending on how you spent your day and who spoke with etc. Nothing special.

3) From shaitaan to mess with your mind and to try to scare you or lead you astray. And brother Wel mei gave good dua's to combatt this type of dreams.

Furthermore, getting dreams that become true ( both Muslims and non-Muslims, good and bad, any type of people can get them) is bushra in this world according to tasfeer of an ayah in surah Hud because a companion of rasool SAW happened to ask what is meant by good tidings or bushra in this verse and seeing good true dreams was the bushra.

True dreams is 1/40th part of prophethood and the only thing left with us now

Dreams should be only told to those people who really trust and love and those people who love you and will not be jealous of you.

Only certain people have the hikmah or wisdom of dream interpetrations and Allaah has given them this quality.

You can intrepret your own dreams if you understand them, however the first intrepetration is what is said( or stays so you should try to ask someone who will give the best interpretation of the dream). Like I said some people ma sha' Allaah have the ability to intrepret other people's dreams as well as their own.

hope this helps and no need to tell your dreams to the whole world. I would suggest you delete the post where you are talking about your dreams, this is a personal and private matter and only a pious or trustworthy person who can intrepret dreams should be told.
