Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said:


Fear Allah wherever you are, and perform good deeds to obliterate previous bad actions, the former will wipe out the latter, and behave decently towards people.

On the authority of `Abdullah bin `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported that the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said:


If I remain alive till the next year, I shall keep the fast on the ninth of Al-Muharram.

On the authority of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported:


The Messenger of Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) fasted on the day of `Ashura' And commanded (people) to observe fasting during that day.

It expiates the sins of the previous year.

The best month for fasting next to Ramadan is Al-Muharram, and the best prayer next to the prescribed prayers is the Night prayer.

Shaddad bin Aus (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:


A wise man is that who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and do noble deeds to benefit him after death. A weak is that who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires.

2. A weak person is he who lives heedlessly, undertakes no good acts, yet, seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires.

3. One should always control himself, suppress his desires, perform religious duties, abstain from relying on vain desires, and never be deceived by illusions for Allah rewards people for their actions not for their desires.

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) who reported that Allah's Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said:


A man's share of adultery is destined by Allah. He will never escape such destiny. The adultery of the eye is the look, the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (talk), the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech, the adultery of the hand is beating others harshly, and the adultery of the feet is to walk to the place where he intends to commit sins. The heart yearns and desires (for such vicious deeds). The loins may or may not put (such vicious deeds) into effect.

None among you should outbid another in a transaction, nor should he make a proposal of marriage upon proposal already made by someone else until he abandons the woman to whom he had already proposed.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him), saying:


When a man goes out of his house and utters: In the name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power (to resist evil) but in Allah, the following (words) will be said to him at that time: You are guided, defended and protected. The devil will go far away from him.
