The Healing Power of Prayer Beads

Asalaamu alikum,

Maybe I am wrong, but I heard that Taraweeh prayers are a bidah. One of the Khalifs began this tradition, and upon completing it asked the people, "Isn't this a fine bidah I've created?"

I asked around about this, and from what I can gather the Prophet peace be upon him, did pray extra prayers at night during the month of Ramadan, but did not do so every night, so the people would not think it is a fard, which would make it difficult for some people. Maybe another brother or sister can shed some light onto this for us?

Jazak Allah Khair,

Jennifer

U r right it was Omar Ibn El Khatab who started making taraweeh in congregation. I mean the Messenger of Allah Sallah Allah a`alyhee wasallam prayed it individually. Until the time of Omar people did so, then one day Omar came to the masjed and saw them praying individually and decided to gather them. He said well this is a good bida`a.

Akhi Dan I truly go for the opinion of not calling anything bida`a because it could lead to hell fire. A bida`a must be something like let us pray fajr 4 raka`a instead of 2, or let us continue praying after fajr until sunrise while of course praying is not permitted at that time. a bida`a is what u add to the religion making it part of it. I am not a scholar of course and usually prefer not to aruge just telling my opinion.

I agree with you not to follow any bidah but for your information I heard fatwa from scholars here in Saudi Arabia saying you can use sebha or any tools to count tasabieh providing that you are not believing that tools is only a tool you can use or not

The main issue her is the attention has to be only toward Allah nothing else

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION I COPIED

Bid'a: This means "Innovation" or "Unauthorized Changes." (A new things in Islam, which contradict Islamic teachings) The Prophet forbade people from making any changes to the teachings or practices of Islam. He said such things and people would go to the Hell fire. But if there is some actions being perform to please Allah (s.w.t) and that is within Shariah limits, those are ok and called Bid’a hasana.

Da'wah: This means calling people (to Islam). If you're talking to someone about Islam you're doing Da'wah. A Da'i is the person who does Da'wah.

Deen: Way of Life. Islam is not a religion, it's a way of life.

Dhikr (Thzikr): This means to remember Allah. When you repeat words or sentences over and over so you can meditate on Allah and cleanse your mind, you are doing or making dhikr. Common dhikr phrases are: "La ilaaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah.) "Subahanullah wa Bihumdeehee" (Glory to Allah and His is the Praise.)

Saying that last one 100 times gets all your sins forgiven according to the Blessed Prophet. There are many more. Many Muslims like to get those prayer beads to help them keep count but the Prophet said you get more reward if you do it on your fingers alone.

Du'a: This means to call on Allah. Whenever you ask Allah for something, whether out loud or inside, you are calling on Him. You can make du'a in any words, in any language and Allah has promised to respond, although in a way we might not expect. Many Muslims like to learn some of the du'as that the Prophet said, but you can use your own words to talk to your Maker.

As salam alaikum

Rasul-Ullah condonced the actions of the those closest to him. When Umar called for the congressional taraweeh prayers, I believe he was acting out of what he thought the Messenger might have done. This man was very adamant about Islam and would not bring in harmful worship. Rasul-Ullah may have prayed alone but there were times when he prayed night prayers with others so the ritual is not unheard of from Muhammad

As for the paryer beads, our acts of wrship must be as pure as we can make them and as close to the methods of Rasul-Ullah as possible. In my mind at best they are in an area of doubt so I choose to stay away from them. Those they stay away from the doubtful protect their deen. I'd rather endure the hardship of trying to keep count with my fingers as is the sunnah and have Allah reward me for that struggle than have to explain myself to Allah as to why I used a method of worship that the Messenger of did not do.

If anyone wants to use the beads, alhamdulillah. I see brothers at my mosque use them all the time. I leave them alone because I do not yet have enough knowledge for people to take me seriously.

I just personally do not understand wanting to use methods that were not used by Muhammad or his companions.

"However, although the dhikr Allah has been recited from the time of the Prophet, the sibhah as we now know it today has not been recorded as being in existence at that time. Some accounts of history show that Muslims adopted the sibhah from India in the 2nd Islamic century and through them, in 1214, that the Christians adopted the idea and started using the rosary (Gulik)."

We know that bidah was filtering into the deen of Islam before the deaths of the companions. One saw a group of people sitting in a circle repeating thikr said after one person said it in a mosque. He went to get one of the companions who knew Rasul-Ullah after they refused to stop. The other companion came in condemned what they were doing and never went to that mosque again.

These people were only doing what they thought was better for their iman but it was a deviation from the methods of worship instituted by Rasul-Ullah.

I will drop the issue since I cannot think of any other points that I have not already written. The only reason why I am so worried is that my deen is in danger when I do not warn against what I feel to be incorrect. I am very stringent when it comes to acts of worship of Allah, Most High. Please forgive any over zealousness. I only mean to do good. Astaghfirullah. May Allah guide me and have mercy on me.

Jazakum Allah Khair for your replies and how they are phrased. I have known others who would just blow me off. May our dialogues continue for the betterment of ourselves and our deen.

As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
