Academic year
#1

Bismillah

as salam alykom

Although this is a local issue, thought to share it.

Beginning of this month, the public debated that the gov should postpone the beginning of the academic year just 10 days. Instead of starting it on 20th Sept because it will be only 10 days before they take Eid holiday after Ramadan ends. But of course the gov never takes public's opinion in consideration. Regradless of the mutliple issues related to this point, like people will be burdened with expenses of schooling needs, uniform..etc, Ramadan needs, Eid needs, leave alone the heavy traffic associated with Ramadan and Eid requirments. They claimed that they dont want Islam to be associated with laziness during fasting. The issue had nothing to do with this, it had to do with special circumstances that they had to take into consideration. But we have nothing to say except Alhamdulelah.

And the last 10 days of Ramadan too! Subhanallah

Sister, I have to tell you I JUST finished registering my high school age kids here in Florida school. Dont think Egypt is the only place on the earth lacking in common sense. Even my husband made the comment it seems the United States is taking lessons from Egypt. For example:

They must be provided with a copy of the kids immunization records to be sure its up to date. OK, no problem right? EXCEPT the copy issued by their doctor is not good enough. It must be written onto a piece of special BLUE paper that can only be obtained from certain locations around the county which are only open certain hours, and during those certain hours you may or may not find a qualified person to write the information down. This is just one of the obstacles of registration. You cant believe how long the whole process took.

It seems the gov is very big on laws that make it appear professional on the surface, but in action they just lack in common sense and practicality. Maybe this is the trend all over the world?

Sobhan Allah, true Jennifer, but listen, once I was working with an American consultant who gave an example on how you can benefit of Local Councils. Like you may form a group of parents, ask to meet the person in charge, or access the senator and bring this obstacle to their attention. Meanwhile, for example as for him being a local radio station owner, he ran a campaign for a local issue (ferries runing on opposite time schedule to the only local clinic), the campaign raised awareness, and local council amended the timings. The problem is this trend is not really available here. And you know what???? I guess it is Egypt who is learning from the US, :) actually we dont know who is learning from whom. May Allah Assist us ameen. Alhamdulelah that the process is over.

That is true, if enough of us keep complaining we can change things. Kind of makes you wonder wehat might get done if people opened their eyes and mouths about other matters too, not just school.

But hang in there, my mother in law says they may begin after Eid they will decide later? She is teaching in Alex. So you may get your wish yet, may Allah make it easy for you all. Ameen.

Keep us up to date if there is any new development.
