Islamophobia in the US
#1

Bismillah

An example of how our American sisters can be treated and how ordinary people react - in the US.

Thanks for the post. I was infact quite heartened by the reaction of those who stood up for the sister. Shows the bond of humanity is still alive Alhamdulillah. The apathy concerns me.

Quote:"islamophobia in the USA" ? Hardly ! The vast majority of people in this clip demonstrated absolutely no "islamophobic" behaviour what so ever. Indeed, quite the opposite.
And the girl that was the subject of this jolly jape put on by this sorry excuse for TV journalism lets some interesting nuggets of information slip about her own piety. For example, she explains that she "is old enough to do things by herself and shouldn't need a chaperon." Perhaps somebody could explain to this addled muslimah that in an a sharia run dictatorship she would most certainly not have the luxury of leaving the house on her own. Oh, and did you catch the the part when she embraced the kuffr in a hug ? Grounds for a stoning in some parts of the muslim world.

Well you may not see it as Islamophobic but I do think it is something that is growing. Unfortunatelty.

I think you got it a bit backwards. Many women go out on their own, to work, to shop, to visit sisters, to the dentist or whatever. But a woman will probably not go out to 'hang around' to flirt or to 'look att guys'.

Yes I did notice the last hug and that may have been going across the line. But I think, to her defense, that she was so taken by that a non-Muslim did stand up for the right that even Muslims shall be respected that it was a spontanious reaction out of being happy and touched by that kind of concern.

JohnDoe i wonder if you have actually been to any of the muslim countries you repeatedly bash? Islamophobia is real and it seems you have it bad.

Its ironic that the one thing JohnDoe notices in the video is the hug. Ironic because the only other people who would have made as much a fuss over it as he did would be the extremist ultraorthodox "muslims" he seems to be at war against (then again he seems to be at war with islam in general). Almost like noticing the speck in someones eye but ignoring the log in your own.

Asalaamu alikum,

I really feel that it is unfortunate that the people who give the hardest time to Muslims who try their best to follow the rules of Islam are most often other muslims.

I noticed the hug too, and I agree with John that is does not belong there. Our Prophet and the early companions who understood the message best knew we dont even shake hands between the sexes much less embrace. So when you label other muslims as extremist and ultraorthodox its a little like taking a shot at the Prophet too, and maybe you could be more careful.

None of us are perfect, and none of us behave totally Islamic 24/7, but we should always try to improve ourselves and acknowledge the appropriate behavior rather than belittling each other if a reminder is made.

Jazak Allah khairn

Interesting video Umm Z even if it was staged. Living in USA I can say I have encountered all kinds of people. While Im pretty sure to deny anybody service because of religion is illegal over here, but I have heard of these things happening on occasion. In any case, when there is opposition to the one practicing her faith the reward is greater so these people do us a favor more than hurt us. Insha Allah we will become stronger in faith and practice from these experiences and eventually these things will happen less insha Allah. May Allah guide us all to the right path.

Either you didn't understand what I was saying or im nt understanding what your saying. Are you denying that there are certain muslims who make hue and cry over trivial matters? I believe Ali Baba from Ummah Films calls them the "haram police".

Taking a shot at the Prophet? Now i really need to clarify what I was saying.

Have you ever pondered how the Prophet(saw) admonished people on a personal basis? Did he ever go over the top? Wasn't he as discrete as possible so as to preseve the dignity of the person? Ever heard of the story of the man who urinated in the mosque and all the companions were about to crucify him what did the Prophet(saw) do? Now think............what would the Prophet(saw) say after watching the video umm Zachariah posted? Would he like JohnDoe and certain "muslims" have an epileptic fit over the trivial hug or would he focus on the bigger picture presented in the video?

ps. I welcome all constructive critcism but accusing me of taking shots at the Prophet(saw) is a bit much....

Here I would like to quote a story from the life of the Prophet Isa(as) on focusing on the brighter side of things rather than zooming in on the negatives.

It is reported that he [Jesus ('a)] passed by a carcass with his disciples. Then the disciples said: "How putrid the smell of this dog is!" Then Jesus ('a) said: "How intense is the whiteness of his teeth!"

Karbala, with all respect I dont think there are such things as trivial issues in Islam. I also dont see where anybody had an 'epileptic fit' it was merely pointed out as being inappropriate and accurately so. Certainly I dont feel this is an attack about the woman (she is an actor or really a Muslimah?) as it was said we may all do things out of emotion or whatever and none of us are perfect. Neither are we in any position to label each other.

And honestly, I dont think the Prophet would overlook men and women embracing each other or consider it to be a trivial matter.

Quote:Ever heard of the story of the man who urinated in the mosque and all the companions were about to crucify him what did the Prophet(saw) do?

He had water pored over it to clean it thus teaching the man that this is not a place of urination. He didn't overlook it, he acknowledged it and dealt with it accordingly.

And nobody here was ready to 'crucify' the girl who did the hugging either, but it should be noted that it is incorrect. There is nothing extreme about that. This is our religion, and it is a moderate religion, we take it as a whole or leave it as a whole.

You don't think thats going over the top? I wonder if you've been reading the same JohnDoe as I have? I don't think that it is "merely pointed out as being inappropriate and accurately so."

The hug was incorrect, no one is justifying it but the response should be proportional. The Prophet(saw) taught the man who was urinating in the mosque in a manner that preserved his dignity.

Theres a similar story involving the Prophets Grandsons Hassan and Hussain. They saw a man performing Wudu' by starting with his feet. They didn't rush in and condemn the man! If you want to know what they did read: http://www.geocities.com/mutmainaa/kids/..._wudu.html

Just an example, but have you heard of Nilofar Bakhtiar? She was a Pakistani Tourism Minister who hugged a man in euphoria after completing a parachute jump. The reaction from a certain muslim group was to pass a fatwa declaring she had committed a "major sin" and should be removed from office. She received death threats and was intimidated to the point where she resigned only for her resignation to be rejected.

Does any of the above sound reasonable to you? Im just saying the sister in the video went through alot of trouble to highlight the plight of muslim women, rather than passing fatwas against her which some muslim groups seem to do with ease.....rather focus on the amazing job she did

Stoning homosexuals is very reasonable if you cannt see it as such, too bad.
