Egyptian Government Holds 80 Brotherhood Members

Egyptian security forces have detained 80 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood, intensifying a clampdown against the government's most powerful political rival.

Al Jazeera's correspondent in Cairo said the arrests, made in dawn sweeps on Thursday, were made in the Cairo, Giza, Menoufiya and Fayyoum governorates.

Security officials said the men were arrested on charges of belonging to an outlawed group and possessing anti-government literature.

The Brotherhood, which operates openly despite being officially banned, is Egypt's main opposition group.

'Pre-emptive move'

The Brotherhood condemned the sweeps as a "pre-emptive move by the Egyptian regime" ahead of elections for the upper house of parliament due in April in which the Brotherhood is widely expected to take part.

Abdel Gelil el-Sharnoubi, the editor of the groups's website, said those arrested were mostly members who were expected to stand in the elections as assistants to the group's legislators.

El-Sharnoubi said the group had not yet chosen its candidates "but the government targeted figures who are popular in their provinces and are expected to run in the elections."

The website said many professionals were also held, including doctors, engineers and teachers.

The arrests came as US-based Human Rights Watch called on Egypt on Thursday to free hundreds of Brotherhood members it said were detained "solely for exercising their rights to freedom of expression and association".

Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director for the organisation, said: "By trying to crush Egypt's largest opposition movement, the government has shown once again that it cannot tolerate any criticism."

Leader's reaction

Essam al-Ariyan, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, told Al Jazeera: "From this [arrest of members] we can sum up an important reality that people's freedom and rights are sharply regressing.

"The government wants to force out any power that is popular and active and just keep those oppositions that would support it or would not seriously oppose it. The reform process itself is being targeted."

The latest arrests came a week after Egypt referred 40 members of the group including Khairat el-Shatir, the third-in-command, for trial in military courts, where verdicts are often issued quickly and cannot be appealed.

Those 40 men, who face terrorism and money-laundering charges, will be the first Brotherhood members to have military trials since 2001.

The group said it was preparing for a tough legal response.

Asalaamu alikum,

Brother, Please remember we should love for our brothers what we love for ourselves, and I guess we dont wish tyranny and oppression on ourselves, and certainly we dont wish wrongful imprisonment on ourselves either. So I like to ask you to think before you rejoice at the misfortune of any Muslim brother or sister. Jazak Allah khairn.

<b>Know,May Allah have Mercy on you.</b> That a ruler's oppression does dont reduce or remove anything which Allah has made waajib upon the Messenger of Allah, When he said " His oppression is upon himself. Your acts of obedience and good deeds along with behaving well towards him will be complete, If Allah the most High wills".
Our deen has regulations. and priciples that must be followed. have you forgotten what happened to The two noble Companions Ali and Uthmaan (radi'Allahu anhumaa) when thoes people who were Muslims causing fitnah in the land.Eventually killing Uthmaan and Ali. due to their attempt to find fault with the Hukaam(rulers) They even called Ali a Kafir. The principle in Islam is found within it's text Qur'an and Sunnah and the way of the best generations of Muslims.... are well known. regarding the Khawaarij and thoes if their Ilk. As it is well known about the Ghulaat amounst the Ikhawaan Muslimoon group in Egypt. When <b>Sayyid Qutb(may Allah have mercy on Him)</b> was beheaded due to his inserection against the ruler of his time Allah replaced that ruler with one who was worst. Yet many in that Land have Not truly learned the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad... So they still plot and plan. and the rulers still take their dunya(By putting then in jail) and those who fight the Scholars Allah takes their deen. So yes I am plese that those who make the Lands of Islam unsafe with immitating the non-muslims with there marching in the streets and yelling and screaming to take the leader from power due to his sins. Yet these same people have these same sins and in most cases worst I've been to Egypt I've seen what goes on in that society. When The Muslims return to their deen Allah will remove the fitnah from Us. Loving for ones brother what you love for yourself has conditions, So this statement doesn't apply in this case due to my loathing of the muslims who help Shaytaan against the Ummah in the Muslim society. may Allah guide the women of this Ummah and the Men to the Sunnah of Our Prophet with regards to these issues. Our Prophet has delt with these issues in depth. see. Shar us Sunnah by Imam al-Barbahaaree on this forum. Case in point: <b>If The Land of Makkah caught Usama bin Laden His head will be cut off due to his crimes, Yet to many Muslims He's a hero.... This is a Fitnah due to many being Jaahil</b>

Jazak Allah brother for your input, however I think that the government of Hosni Mubarak cannot be compared with the rule of Uthman or Ali. I dont share the same thinking as you, and Im not saying I am correct or you are correct, but regardless even if we think that our brothers are astray (and Im not saying they are) its better we pray for them and us and approach them with love and mercy and wish for the improvment of all, rather than celebrate and call for the ruin of any Muslim. We are Muslims first and foremost and maybe the biggest sickness in the Ummah today is that we dont put love between our hearts, but prefer to divide along lines of ideology, social class etc.

As you know the Muslims are as one body, if part is sick than the whole is sick. How can we wish any part of the body to be sick?

May Allah save us from pride and help us to become better Muslims, Ameen.

<b>As salaamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakathu</b> The Prophet Of islam taught us everything that will benefit this Nation and He taught us everything which will cause us harm... if He taught us how to use the Bathroom. is it posible that that he left out what to do in the times we live in Now? Not possible, with this said. My hope is that you come to know about What The Messenger of Allah said in his Authentic Narrations. regarding The fitnah. you see it today. if i am jailed in a muslim country like Egypt. i must be going against the laws set by the ruler..regardless of how oppressive these law may be. in islam we are not suppose to get behind people blindly. and if al-jazzera news is your only source than i'll give you the phon numbers of the ulema. This is also a command from Allah to "<b>ask the People of Knowledge if you dont know"</b> My advice to you is to read the books of Sunnah i posted one on this forum intitled <b>Shar us Sunnah</b> You can learn about the deen that the Prophet and his companions were upon. Not following desires in judging matters. But stick to the original state of affairs that will suffice you sister. these issues of polotics have confused many un-educated muslims about their deen. Our Deen is complete. learn about the ikhwaan muslimeen it's History They've deviated in soo many issues. The Prophet said that the rulers will be as they are... and he told this nation how to deal with it..... so learn about these people who were jailed why? and what did they do really. The ruler who's corrupt does not follow the Sunnah nor the guidance as Our Prophet said. This group The Muslim brotherhood learn about them so you wont suppor the destruction of Islam and not even know it. their methods have failed and will continue to fail.....They are bankrupt

I think u really need to examine how u judge others, to start with, we shouldnt judge at all. What is more important is to exactly where people are coming from, their paltform, their reasons for instance behind wanting to throw out a so called Muslim regime before u wish that they are all locked up and forgotten. Pls go check if the ruling regimes in any given muslim country rules by Quran and Sunnah and compare this with what Quran defines them.

Also currently, GOE is embarking on amending the constitution, what constitution, man made, they are discussing and declaring that the article stating that Islam is the main religion of the country will not be touch, however, they are instituting a new term""citizenship" but yet again crying o this is far from secularism.

And for the record, if the Muslim brotherhood are being oppressed it is an honor, just as any other Muslim who is trying to hold on to his/her Deen is being oppressed. So it is the other way around brother.

Again I do urge u to go check how Quran defines those who dont rule by Kitabullah.

I dont think I need to quote the Ayahs for u.

<b>Barakallahu Feekum</b> and You should know that The Manhaj of ikhawan Muflisoon is rebellion and this is not from the Sunnah of The Prophet. and not from our deen to do this. We Do NOt go out against the rulers of the muslims weather rightous or sinful, and We distance ourselves from those who do. for this is the way or the renagades(kawaarij) So The Qur'an is explained by Your Prophet. His name is Muhammad and the Qur'an you speak of was sent to him, and his Companions perserved it and thats how you got it.... but they understood this book better than anyone of the late-comers of today, So what you have been given will suffice you. upon you is <b>to follow not innovate</b>
La You are mistaken we judge by the Book and Sunnah.. And there was once another group of misguided people in the history of Islam. read <b>Shar -us Sunnah by Imam Barbahaaree </b> on this forum... for clarity sister The Kawarij told ibn abbass the same thing Judgement is only for Allah. He (ra) gave them the ayat where Allah says" And Appoint two just witnesses to judge in their affair" so you should first gain some knowledge of the issue. Start with the statement of Imam al-Bukharee" Knowledge proceeds Action... May Allah guide you closer to the correct Islam... amen

Brother jazakum Allah khairan, however, just a correction, the Ikhwan, at least as far as I know, are not adopting a rebellious approach, I had a chance to look into part of their electoral platform. They say what cannt be attained as whole should not be left as whole, they are seeking the application of Sharia. If their methodology was to rebel, they wouldnt have ran for elections to the People's Assembly.

And when I said we shouldnt judge, I thought you will get my point. That we shouldnt judge people's intentions in particular or their hearts, their ranks in the Eyes of Allah. No matter how a person may look or sound pious I shouldnt take the liberty in confirmning so. I can only say I think. This is what I meant.

however, on another thread u refered to people needing to improve themselves before asking to throw rules. In this I fully agree with u. That is why I never criticise the regime or even make dua against US. They are there as part of a test and trial. Many hadeeth refer to this and confirm it. Actually, their existence is a confirmation that the hadeeth are true coming from a Messenger of Allah, to those who understand and comprehend.

Jazakum Allah khairan.

<b>Barakallahu Feekum</b>, As Salaamu Alaikum, you said and I qoute "at least as far as I know" knowledge is very Important, but many of the muslim youth weren't even born when this deviant group emerged

The Ihkwan ul Muslimoom has in there principles Rebellion as their manhaj.... A group founded by Hassan al-Banna and which serves as an umbrella organisation to accommodate all and sundry, regardless of deviation in creed and methodology. So you'll find the most sinful of people with this group, Christians, and any other deviant muslims Their concern is Numbers and today they seek to enter into parlamentry and western elections, Yet you claim that they seek to establish the Sharee'ah of Allah swt. First they have to establish the Tawheed of Allah.... Their fundamental principle is <b>" We accomadate everyone who wishes to work with our cause, and We excuse everyone who differ with us"</b> Some are more open with their rebellion than others but many just seek power and influence in their governments.... They dont even care that people are worshiping at graves in Egypt which is shirk. .. Making tawaaf around the grave of Badawee and Gilaanee... it's a joke they want to establish the shari'ah of Allah! really i dont think so first this group has the follow the deen that was sent down and not accomadate every disobediant sinner, using the muslim youth to further their cause which is baatil..One of the well known students Of Shaikh Muqbil of Yemen said about this ihkwan ul Mublisoon-" They remind me of a large garbage dumpster, in it is all types of things some are useful like maybe you'll see in it an half eaten apple, perhaps a cat could feed off it. You may even find a Qur'an in it, with missing pages and in bad condition. Or a shoe but not it's mate," This is like the ihkwaanee's.", THEY'RE not concern with teaching tawheed and Sunnah They chase politics and voting and raising funds. and gathering people upon their bankrupted methodology" This is a sad state of af if afairs.

If you're sincere and truly fear Allah for you deen, and wish to be of the people near the Prophet Muhammad at his Pool(Kawthaar) Yawmul Qiyyaamah-By the permission of Allah. Than free yourself form defending the likes of this manhaj and this group. For verily Reminders Benefit the believers, This is my advice to you and the brothers and sisters in this forum have witnessed it. And Allah is the best to witness.

Your brother in Islaam Abdul walee Paul USA

The Poet said <b>" The foam of the ocean has left and non of the people have benefited from it"</b>

<b>This will be the end of my participation on this topic sister, May Allah safeguard you and me from deviating from the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah, and the way of His Companions, amen...</b>
