Killing your baby. what could be more depraved? For a woman to destroy the fruit of her womb would seem like an ultimate violation of the natural order. But every year, hundreds of women commit neonaticide: they kill their newborns or let them die. Most neonaticides remain undiscovered, but every once in a while a janitor follows a trail of blood to a tiny body in a trash bin, or a woman faints and doctors find the remains of a placenta inside her.

Two cases have recently riveted the American public. Last November, Amy Grossberg and Brian Peterson, 18-year-old college sweethearts, delivered their baby in a motel room and, according to prosecutors, killed him and left his body in a Dumpster. They will go on trial for murder next year and, if convicted, could be sentenced to death. In June, another 18-year-old, Melissa Drexler, arrived at her high-school prom, locked herself in a bathroom stall, gave birth to a boy and left him dead in a garbage can. Everyone knows what happened next: she touched herself up and returned to the dance floor. In September, a grand jury indicted her for murder.

How could they do it? Nothing melts the heart like a helpless baby. Even a biologist's cold calculations tell us that nurturing an offspring that carries our genes is the whole point of our existence. Neonaticide, many think, could be only a product of pathology. The psychiatrists uncover childhood trauma. The defense lawyers argue temporary psychosis. The pundits blame a throwaway society, permissive sex education and, of course, rock lyrics.

But it's hard to maintain that neonaticide is an illness when we learn that it has been practiced and accepted in most cultures throughout history. And that neonaticidal women do not commonly show signs of psychopathology.

<b>Allah says in His Noble Qur'an</b>:And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin. (Al-Isra 17:31)

What an absolutely beautiful statement! I couldn't have said it better myself :)

abdulwalee, according to your school of thought, does this view also apply to a "foetus" (baby) in his/her mother's womb? I discussed abortion with Muslims on this forum a while ago & they gave me the impression that a woman can abort her child for health reasons. Where do you stand on this issue? Is there ever a time to kill an innocent & "helpless baby"?

Thanks & God bless.

<b>How are this day</b> I only have a few min. cause I have to run out.. And you like to argue... <_< But this issue of Abortion is an old issue And in the west it has been delt with in a terrible manner. with both sides transgressing the limit set By Allah. The arabs use to kill(bury alive) their daughters before Islam came to them. And just about every nation in the world has something like abortion in it's practice to so-called fix society. But Islam has the answer to all Human ills.. No Doubt.<b>This issue is delt with by qualified Scholars </b> and the reasons and benefits and harm are look at carefully to come up with the correct ruling of course Using the Legislation in Islam which has two sources. The Book of Allah and The authentic Statements actions and silent approvals of The Last Prophet Muhammad. and there are other ways of determining a ruling if the issue isn't found in the main sources. But The Scholars known as Ulemah both past and present have delt with a number of issues on this subject bringing proofs from the sources of legislation in Islam. But keep in mind that Fataawa can bet general and or Specific based on the curcumstances. So here's the link to one such question If you require more I'll reciprocate. In saa'Allah.

How are you this day, being pro-life is a political stance which has some holes in it due to the fact that it's not backed by Divine Regulations. what does Christianity say in it's scriptures regarding abortion? and what do christian scholars say? because many christans diffe on the issue due to secular laws becoming more and more popular these days, and pre-maritial sex even amoungst followers of the christianity seem to be folding under preasure. But Islam is a balenced faith.

<b>Here are some christian laws regarding women writen in the bible</b>

<b>"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." (Genesis 3:16) </b>

"If, however, the charge is not true and no proof of the girls virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her fathers house and there the men of the town shall stone her to death." (Deut. 22:20-21)

The Lord said to Moses, "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man." (Num. 31:17)

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord...Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Eph. 5:22-24)

"Women should remain silent in churches. They are not allowed to speak; but must be in submission as the Law says." (I Cor. 14:34-35)

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." (I Tim. 2:11-14)

"The head of every man is Christ, and the head of every woman is man." (I Cor. 11:3)

"For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man." (I Cor. 11:8-9)

"Balanced" doesn't cut it for me, I'm afraid. It's all or nothing! I'm a Catholic Christian, by the Grace of God.

Moral issues pertaining to sex & everything that comes along with it were discussed on these two threads, so perhaps you can have a read & then get back to me if you wish :)

That's an understatement, believe me ;) I don't have a definitive stance in regards to women in Islam because I've yet to be completely informed on all gender related issues of your faith, but after years of studying Catholicism - (please don't attack, this is simply my opinion) - I've concluded that the Holy Bible in collaboration with Holy Mother Church, are the sole defenders of woman's dignity... always have been & always will be. Alhamdulilah!

Quote:<b>Here are some christian laws regarding women writen in the bible</b>

Since I have time to kill, I thought I better come back & offer some words of wisdom :P

Here is how I, under the guidance of God the Holy Spirit & my Mother, the One Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church, interprets these profound biblical verses.

Quote:<b>"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you." (Genesis 3:16) </b>

The consequences of Original Sin for Eve point to 2 of the 5 preternatural gifts Adam & Eve were bestowed with. Before the fall, our first parents had <i>Integrity</i> - complete control over the lusts of the flesh & <i>Immortality</i> - immunity from suffering. Sin is the cause of disorder in family life (human families image God's family), therefore, a women will suffer the effects of Original Sin in her vocation as wife & mother.

Quote:"If, however, the charge is not true and no proof of the girls virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her fathers house and there the men of the town shall stone her to death." (Deut. 22:20-21)

This precept shows the high regard in which virginity was held in ancient Israel. Under Mosaic Law stoning might have been permitted, but this command is man-made not Divine. Jesus Christ addresses this issue in St John 8:1, when the Pharisees approached Him quoting the law of Moses.

Quote:The Lord said to Moses, "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man." (Num. 31:17)

Hehe! You're the millionth person on the boards to bring up this verse. Please refer to one of the following:

Quote:"Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord...Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Eph. 5:22-24)

This verse (in the context of the whole passage) is absolutely amazing!!! Please please please read it!

21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

24 As the church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands.

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,

26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

27 that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

28 Even so husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

29 For no man ever hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ does the church,

30 because we are members of his body.

31 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."

32 This mystery is a profound one, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church;

33 however, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Quote:"Women should remain silent in churches. They are not allowed to speak; but must be in submission as the Law says." (I Cor. 14:34-35)

St Paul is going through the regulation of liturgical assemblies. Woman may take on all the roles he speaks about except for one... the official function of ministerial priesthood which is restricted to men only. This is a whole other topic so I won't go into detail but I'll just say quickly that as a woman, I'm absolutely mortified at the thought of women priestesses. It's wrong on so many different levels. This controversial Church doctrine is simply beautiful when you understand the its true significance.

Quote:"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." (I Tim. 2:11-14)

Following on from above, this is a theological argument not a sociological one. It is in the context of liturgical worship. Women are prohibited in the Church to teach with the authority of the Apostles & their successors, the priests & bishops. When St Paul speaks about the dignity of men & women, he makes no distinction between their equality & importance. It's only our roles in the Church (as well as nature) that aren't identical.

Quote:"The head of every man is Christ, and the head of every woman is man." (I Cor. 11:3)

St Paul is establishing the theological principle which throws light on the matter of wearing a headcover - a special mission for women. We could spend ages on this topic but basically, the point of this verse is to tell us... "that which is veiled is that which is holy."

Quote:"For man did not come from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man." (I Cor. 11:8-9)

Again, this passage is talking about women in Church (& veiling). Let's read on shall we...

10 That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because of the angels.

11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;

12 for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.

Not allowed to go back and forth arguing on these issues with you, against My faith. you dont even have the basic concept of Tawheed this is the real problem. You believe that God became a man and died... and the very people you call on as Gods or God like were and are themselves muslims. so first we need to rectify that than maybe I'll go into the historicle fallicies of the bible and how the early deveints changed the texts of the original manuscripts and thus changed the true message of Jesus, but why should i go there when you're not even a devout catholic. If you were why are you in an Islamic guest room? You really wnt this Deen which has the answers to all your woes... While you're sitting in that dark gloomy church with all those statues realizing that "That is not even a religion" cant be searching for converts on this forum, but than again. If people aren't grounded upon their faith than who knows... you dont have enough to offer of facts I've read your post They're laughable.... gotta run. I gotta intresting info later about The condidtion of women before Islam amoungst the Arabs, Indians, Jews, Romans, and yes the Christians, wow you gotta read this stuff.....
