Little Mosque on the Praire
#1

Asalaamu alikum,

I was a bit leary when I saw a news broadcast showcasing this new Canadian series. I have not viewed any of the episodes myself, Im not sure if it even airs here in the USA, but it seems in Canada there is alot of hype over it.

The link is for a commentary about the series. May Allah guide us all to the right path and help us to be better Muslims, Ameen

Asalaamu alikum,

Jazak Allah khairn Suhail. I saw an interview with the shows creator, in which she stated the purpose of doing the show was to "get rid of sterotypes" and "show the west that Muslims are just like them"

But I wonder how using 'humor' to poke fun at practicing Muslims is supposed to better our situation?

Could it be that on the surface the show does not seem to be against Islam or Muslims as you say but what are effects of this approach?

For example: There is a popular TV show called FRIENDS, probably you know it. I never saw it, or my kids while it aired, at that time my daughter was in the 2nd grade. It was popular even for kids in her age to watch it, and discuss at school. One day while supervising the kids on their lunch period, I heard one of the girls talking about how she thinks it is 'so cool' how one of the charactors was in a lesbian relationship and giving birth to a child. It opened a dialouge between the girls in which they had a favorable view of lesbianism, and raising children with a gay lifestyle.

My point is that these types of programs have an impact on the peoples thinking, especially youth. and sometimes 'humor' is used to promote ideas that are unhealthy. The devil always comes with a smiling face.

From what I have now seen of the show and considering the following points:

1. Mockery of serious devout practicing Muslims and displaying them as being backward people who have no affiliation with modern day society.

2. Un-Islamic music being played in the background.

3. The Hijab not being worn properly by the Muslim women.

4. Over-intermingling between the genders.

5. A clean shaven Imam.

6. Shaking of the hands between the genders, especially the Imam.

7. The flirting of the girl with the Imam.

8. The claim that Islam is democracy.

9. The barrier issue between the men and the women.

10. The Imam asking the reverend for guidance and advice (as if Islam does not have the solution to every problem).

11. Muslim spouses making out in public.

I have to ask myself, is this really something that is not harming Islam?

May Allah guide and forgive us and help us to be more effective and productive Muslims, Ameen.

Love,

Jennifer

I read the commentary, Sobhan Allah, may be the surface is humor, but when it is as always trying to provide means for muslims to start leaving and abanding, trying to cope, trying to change is when the danger appears.

The problem is that we focus on the attitude of others towards us, while we need to focus on how to be proud of Islam as it is, just as it is. We dont need to change it in order to fit in. There is nothing in Islam to be ashamed on.

La hawla wala qowata ila billah.

But this is just another clear proof that the Messenger salla Allah A`lyhee wa sallam never spoke out of own desire.

5. A clean shaven Imam...

What is the punishment, according to Islamic law, if an Imam or other Muslim male shaves off his beard?

Is it a sin for a Muslim male to be clean shaven?

Firstly I question the level of Taqwa n Imaan of a mumin who Who wants to appear on T.V in the first place. What kind of examples are these people.

Whats next a Snoop snoop dogg video shoot and Paris Hilton Cameo with Muslims to show down with whatever ! Liebral and Free to do whatever!

Yeha

Sad really

Sorry to bust the bubble, akhi. Muslims have already been on TV with Paris Hilton on her show "The Simple Life" (not sure if it is still on).

Her buddy Nicole Richie was encouraging the young muslim guy to kiss girls that Nicole said to invite over. The father went with Paris to a club to go dancing. He was on the floor moving to the music... WITH HIS HAND OVER HIS EYES! Like that helps.

"I'll just hold my nose while I drink this beer so the sin is less." Oooookaaaaaay...

As Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
