Yes it is nearing us! And am I ever excited and preparing unlike ever before. Speaking of changes, perhaps the greatest change in my life occured post last ramadan. Thus, with sincere determination and immense consciousness, I intend to make this ramadan even more special and unique, Insha'Allah. I want to truly feel and experience every moment of it like never before, whilst being saturated in the shukr of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, bi idnnillah.

Salam sister,
Yes, i also have extra incentive to experience Ramadhan on a more sensual and spiritual level :) Inshallah, I'll be able to do that.
I have things to be thankful to Allah, things so important, that you become a better Muslim for in the sole aim (rather than for deeds) to please Allah! ^_^
Thank you Nasra for this litte reminder
May Allah reward you! Ameen

Seems that everyone is reminding me to bring this room up. Sobhan Allah Ramadan's signals are starting to spread around Egypt.
Nasra, what u said is very inspiring. May Allah Allow us to treat all the days year round as Ramadan.
alliex, Insh aAllah we will be posting the date as they check the crescent just like evey year. Sobhan Allah, it feels different that we seek the announcement then come to the pc and tell our brothers and sisters living abroad. May Allah Keeps us all united as always.

As Salam alaikum
Our khateeb said that we should try fasting now in Shaban because it helps get ready for Ramadan. Like the sunnah rakats before the fard get us ready for the fard prayer.
Book 18, Number 18.22.56:
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'n Nadr, the mawla of Umar ibn Ubaydullah, from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar-Rahman that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to fast for so long that we thought he would never stop fasting, and he would go without fasting for so long that we thought he would never fast again. I never saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, fast for a complete month except for Ramadan, and I never saw him do more fasting in any one month than he did in Shaban.'
Also tomorrow is the beginning of the fast for the three days when the moon is fullest... The White Days?
I looked for the hadith but am at work so have limited time...
If one were to fast tomorrow and the following two days, two sunnahs would be fulfilled, as well as getting ready for the Main Event.
As Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

Assalamu alaikum Brothers and Sisters
Thank you sister NaSra for the reminder
May we all make the best of Ramadan inshaAllah. And take the opportunity to gain the forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
Brother Dan,
I guess the days has passed for this month, but here is ahadith;
Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 274:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
My friend (the Prophet) advised me to do three things and I shall not leave them till I die, these are: To fast three days every month, to offer the Duha prayer, and to offer Witr before sleeping.
Abu Dawood, Book 13, Number 2443:
Narrated Qatadah Ibn Malhan al-Qaysi:
The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) used to command us to fast the days of the white (nights): thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth of the month. He said: This is like keeping perpetual fast.
Wish you all a Blessed Ramadan!

So you don't know in advance exactly when it starts, only a rough idea?

Yep. There are some websites the predict the stages of the moon but are not always 100% accurate so we rely on the teachings of the Prophet saws.
Sahih Muslim:
Book 006, Number 2363:
Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying in connection with Ramadan: Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it.
To clarify what is meant when one cannot see the moon due to cloudiness:
Book 006, Number 2364:
Ibn Umar reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) made a mention of Ramadan and he with the gesture of his hand said: The month is thus and thus. (He then withdrew his thumb at the third time). He then said: Fast when you see it, and break your fast when you see it, and if the weather is cloudy calculate it (the months of Sha'ban and Shawwal) as thirty days.
