Quote:If you mean the meat used on the pizza, as long as it is not pork, then many scholars have said that it is permissable, because the majority of Americans are Christian and they are the people of the book, so their meat is permissable as long as it is not from forbidden meat like pork.

Do Christians invoke the name of Allah when slaughtering their animals? No they don’t, in fact most of them don’t mention any name before slaughtering animals and they don’t even follow the Islamic method of slaughtering animals to avoid many diseases. This makes it haram according to the Qur’an.

"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, <b>and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah."</b>[Qur’an 5:3]

What if those Christians for examples slaughter their animals in the name of the Father, and of the son and of the Holy Spirit? Will we be allowed to eat that meat too? No of course not.

I know that we are allowed to eat the food of the people of the Book <b>as long as it is not haram</b>, and that's why we can very well eat the meat slaughtered by Jews because they are very strict in following the same method of slaughtering animals as Muslims commanded by God and His messenger, and they do mention the name of Allah before slaughtering too, that makes it Halal.

I was not talking about vege or sea food pizzas, although they use the same pans of vege pizza when they cook pork, and who knows, sometimes you find piece of ham went wrong in the vege pizza and we eat it. So its better to eat in a Muslim restaurants when we we are in Non Muslim country to avoid these problems. USA have lots of Halal restaurants masha'Allah, so why we have to eat somewhere else?

We can very well eat pizza hut in a Muslim country, at least we are sure that everything there is Halal.

Well this is my personal opinion.

yes brother but how do u know that the Christians at the time of the Prophet mentioned Allah's name when slaughtering the animals?

At the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the Christians believed in the trininty and the Jesus was God's son (exalted be He).

Also, I have heard from a sister whose husband is a shaikh (or someone else told me about this part, but thta sister also said that they checked out the slaughtering of the meat process) that they checked different places where they slaughter the animals, and she said that they cut the heads of the chickens so they are slaughtered, and it is done by machines (If I remember correctly), so they probably didn't mentioned any name on it.

But like I said they could have done the same think at the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

wallahu a'lam

Also, since there is meat in USA slaughtered by Muslims, then it is better to get that meat.

I myself and my family didn't feel comfortable to eat meat from restuarants or buy the meat in stores, except for fish and sea food.

We got our meat from Muslim stores, where Muslims slaughter the meat.

So I don't eat their meat but I can't tell others not to eat it without haveing proof that they don't slaughter it.

Asalaamu alikum,

I guess its not very hard to get proof about the slaughter here in the USA, and I guess it is common knowledge that the huge majority of animals are slaughtered by machine.

I think we should not take too much of a relaxed attitude towrd this issue, because if the contents of our stomache are haram nothing else is going to be good.

One Abu Baker was eating some meat given to him by a new Muslim. In the course of the meal it was mentioned that the meat was payed for with money that the new Muslim had obtained in something haram (before he became Muslim). When Abu Baker heard that, he put his finger down his throat and began to vomit. His reason because of his fear to meet Allah with the haram content of the stomache.

So how people can see for example how they raise the chickens for KFC and think its ok to eat it, I cant imagine.

If a Christain abuses and mistreats animals in the name of greed for its whole life, and then sends it to a machine to be killed, how can we say its halal to eat it simply because a chirstian did it?

What we put into our stomache and the stomache of our family is important. Our meat has to be Zabiha. So I guess the best thing for us is to learn what that means and apply it best we can insha Allah.

May Allah guide us all to the right path, Ameen.

Wael, jazakum Allah khairan katheeran for this point, it really never crossed my mind. May be because u lived long enough in non Muslim countries that you became trained on such issues. Really, Sobhan Allah, true they can easily use the same pan to cook my pizza where they cooked before one that contained pork. Well, Alhamdulelah, that I didnt really eat much pizza in the US may be once and if this happened may Allah Forgive.

As for the slaughtering method, I echo what Jennifer said, I m fully aware of this. It has to do with more than mentioning the name of Allah, it is how they slaughter.

Alhamdulelah i live in Egypt... :)

glad to see you sister Jennifer and may Allah reward you for your points.

jazakum Allahu khirans sister Muslimah and Musleema for your thoughts too.

And since brother CC will come and ask what is the Islamic method for slaughtering animals:) so I thought to bring this point here.

The Islamic mode of slaughtering an animal requires the following conditions to be met:

<b>mentioning the name of Allah before slaughtering.. Then, </b>

1- The animal has to be slaughtered with a sharp object (knife) and in a fast way so that the pain of slaughter is minimized.

2- Zabiha is an Arabic word which means ‘slaughtered’. The ‘slaughtering’ is to be done by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck causing the animal’s death without cutting the spinal cord.

3- <b>The blood has to be drained completely before the head is removed.</b> (which is not the case when using machine) The purpose is to drain out most of the blood which would serve as a good culture medium for micro organisms. The spinal cord must not be cut because the nerve fibres to the heart could be damaged during the process causing cardiac arrest, stagnating the blood in the blood vessels.

The thread took a turn and I learned about Halal. There are several Halal butchers near my home. I've often wondered what the difference was.

This had me scratching my head in another thread

Quote:Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur’an 5:3]

Is this the only passage in the Qu'ran that the method of butchering meat is based on, or is there more? Because reading that I see nothing about having to say "Allah" (or whatever it is you have to say) when killing an animal, it merely says that you can't eat it if someone has said a name other than Allah.

Based on that passage if a cow is butchered and someone says "I kill this animal for Ra" then you can't eat it, but if the butcher says nothing at all then you can.

Based on that passage if a cow is butchered and someone says "I kill this animal for Ra" then you can't eat it, but if the butcher says nothing at all then you can.

in another place in the Qur’an Allah says:

<b>(Forbidden to you (for food)</b>
are: Al-Maytah (the dead animals), blood, the flesh of swine, and what has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allah, <b>and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns - and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal.</b>)[5:3],

Now, if you decided to eat in a Christian restaurant, you do not know exactly how animals were killed. They do not follow the proper method of slaughtering animals which makes their food harem for you. This is number one.

Number two, now regarding mentioning the name of Allah before slaughtering the animals, the Qur'an also makes it clear;

"Prohibited to you are dead meat, blood and flesh of swine, that which has had other than the name of Allah invoked upon it, that which has been killed by strangling or by violent blow, or falling, or by being butted to death by horns, or that which has been devoured by beasts of prey, except that which you have duly slaughtered while it was still alive. Also unlawful to you is that which is sacrificed to idols and divided by raffling with arrows, this is impiety. Today the unbelievers have despaired of your religion, so do not fear them, but fear Me. Today I have perfected for you your Religion and completed My Grace on your Religion. But whoever is compelled by hunger, and not inclining purposely to sin, then God is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. They ask you what is permitted for them, say, "Permitted to you is all that is good and pure, and what the hunting animals catch and hold for you, which you have trained to hunt according to the knowledge God has given to you, so eat from what it catches and holds for you, <b>and you should invoke the name of Allah over it.</b>"
And fear Allah, surely God is swift at reckoning".Qur'an (5:3,4)

"<b>And eat not of that whereon Allah's name has not been mentioned, for it is abomination, the devils do inspire their minions to dispute with you. But if you obey them, indeed you would be polytheists"</b>.
Qur'an (6:121).

Also in one hadith our Prophet PBUH said:

narrated by Rafi' bin Khadij, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) told Muslims who wanted to slaughter some animals using reeds, “Use whatever causes blood to flow, <b>and eat the animals if the Name of Allah has been mentioned on slaughtering them</b>
...” (Bukhari).

Hope this clarify any doubt insha'Allah.
