Quote:But what is it?

What is inside?

There are Halal restaurants near my home. Would they have it?

It is only vegetable, beans, peas etc,,, mixed together and fried in deep oil.

I think you could find Falafel recipe here

http://www.recipesource.com/munchies/appet...s/falafel1.html

And you can ask this halal restaurant if they do Falafel, am not sure the taste would be the same as in Egypt.

It is, of course, against Islamic law to drink coke and pepsi, as the following fatwa clearly shows:

Fatwa on coke, pepsi, etc.

One extract:

Quote:The problem with these products, brands of donuts and pizza are added, is that they are not only using American products and paying franchise fees, they also represent the "American culture." I think the businessmen who started them in our Muslim countries have done a grave mistake in importing the 'American way of life'.

It is my understanding that it is not just American culture that Muslims are required to hate. Muslims are required to hate the cultures of EVERY country of the world (other than the culture of Saudi Arabia, of course). So, Muslims must not only hate the American way of life, they must also hate the Canadian way of life, the New Zealand way of life, the Norwegian way of life, the Hungarian way of life, the Chinese way of life, etc.

It is amusing to me to see these kinds of fatwa. Would Islam have ever spread to west Africa and east asia if this was the attitude of the first muslims?

A common problem that I see with converts in Europe and the Americas is that they believe that they must either arabize or pakistanize in order to be a good muslim. The "scholars" need to issue some fatwas that our African and Asian brothers are sinning because they have their own culture, food, and ways of dressing that differ from the Saudis.

Truth be told... they must be sinning because muslims are not supposed to wear clothes dyed red, yet the saudis have a red and white head covering. Thobes were not even worn by the prophet, so there is some more sin. Muslimah pointed this out with here story of the toliets and cars in Saudi. Some fatwas seem to be issued with a clear agenda in mind. Why are some muslims trying to make Islam more foriegn and displeasing to nonmuslims? Would the Prophet saws have condoned this? I don't think so. He gave dawah to christians by first pointing out similarities. Anyway... done.

People can be very extreme. Islam is not.

Peace

The problem with such fatwas when they are read and thought of by either a Muslim or non muslim without having full background about the reasons behind them, could be really tricky. Well, I will try to shed some light here.

Muslims have a full comprehensive manual including what to eat, drink, where and even with who.

Now, the issue of American franchises, matter of fact, started and was very hot, I for one was fully for it, to boycot only American products in any way, fashion or type. Even chocolates. Now reepi, was on one thread when we disucssed this and thankfully directed me regarding a dutch coffee brand that I love so much being Jewish or donor to Israel. The whole issue is associated with the large donations made by American to Israel, and more. I know now everyone understands. living in the US will not allow u of course to adopt such course of action. But if u r living in a place like the middle east or any where else where u can at least avoid consuming American products in the name of Allah, not to help them kill our brothers, it is worth trying.

It has nothing to do with Arabizing or pakistanizing Islam. Boycot is a weapon used even at the time of the Messenger prayer and peace be upon him, it was even used against him.

They might have gone a bit far of criminalizing the consumption of such products, but I look at it this way. Yes Arab societies suffer of loosing their identity and seeking to follow and adopt the western culture. But we have been suffering this since the time of colonial invasions.

Again I stress, I m not trying to put words into the Fatwa issuer, but it has to do with boycotting American related businesses, which by the way, at that time when it was really strong made an amazing affect.

Curious, more on the falafel, Wael was somehow brief, it is made of soaked beans, then grind with some vegetables, soda carbon and then deep fried. i m sure you will find it in any Arab restaurant, it is a popular meal.

Go to this link: the pic in this link is closer to reality:

Is it true, then, that the boycott has nothing to do with the American troops who are currently in Iraq and Afghanistan?

My auntie told me that when she was living in saudi she got once arrested for wearing her Somali clothes. If I go to saudi now, no matter how educated I am just because I'm a "Somali" I can't have a proper job, one thing that can safe me is my european passport than I'll have a whole lot of respect. If I don't have that then the only option I have is to scrub the floor of an Arab family. That's the job of most Girls from the Filipines and Immigrants from somalia etc.

The law in that country seriously amazes me.

I guess I went offtopic

Well Alhamdulelah u r starting to get the idea, of course it does. i was just brief, it has to do as I mentioned with killing our brothers and sisters in any manner.

Let me be more specific, I m not condoning making food haram, or pinning our mistakes on others like following the western culture. Originally, Islam is about making choices, Allah Does not put a sword on our neck to believer and observe Allah's limits, but it is our choice. Thus, those who follow the western culutres, they were going to whether or not fast food and Jeans were avaliable around.

Hope u get the picture.

"It has nothing to do with Arabizing or pakistanizing Islam."

I was not saying that Islam would be arabized or pakistanized. I was saying that some people, especially new converts, have a tendency to think that taking on the CULTURES of such places indicate a good muslim. I know brothers who act arab and tie that directly into being a good muslim. I remember wearing a thobe to the masjid and brothers saying, "Mash'Allah!" The day before I was not talked to by these very brothers. I then realized this misconception.

To dress Islamically is to cover what Allah has Mandated to be covered and avoid what Allah forbid to wear like silk. If my pants are above my ankles and below the mid shin, then they are "islamic." If my shirt is long in body, sleeves the do not come down over my hands, contain no pictures, and are made of halaal materials, then they are "islamic" as well. I am just saying that Islam comes into a person's life like a sieve. It removes what is harmful or haram and leaves the rest.

I also understand the rest of the world's desire to not be so dependent upon the US. I personally would like to see less depedence on other countries by the US. I fully support muslims in other countries doing what they feel is right to protect their deen. I just wanted to clarify that what applies elsewhere MAY not necessarily apply here.

I feel this is one of the great reasons that the US needs it's own "homegrown" scholars who understand that when they are studying, they are studying pure Islam and not bringing culture into the deen and presenting it as Islam to the ignorant. I believe this is a major problem in not only giving dawah to nonmuslims but to American muslims here. Younger muslims who were born here have thier parents trying to instill thier country of origin's Islam AND culture. These youth cannot relate to a society in which they have not lived. So the culture seems foreign in the process Islam becomes foreign to them as well.

I am going to be quiet now. : )
