The Islamic viewpoint is that to every nation was sent a Messenger to guide his people. The important matter was the concept of Tawheed i.e., in oneness of Allah. The secondary matter was the Law or Shariah which kept changing from tribe to tribe and nation to nation. Allah, the most high, alone knows what is good for His creation. As it is mentioned in the Qur'ân:

And for every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged. (Qur'ân 10:47)

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e., do not worship Taghut besides Allah)." Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). (Qur'ân 16:36)

Some of these Messengers are mentioned in the Qur'ân by Allah and some of them are not as the Qur'ân says:

And, indeed We have sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad(P)); of some of them We have related to you their story and of some We have not related to you their story, and it was not given to any Messenger that he should bring a sign except by the Leave of Allah. So, when comes the Commandment of Allah, the matter will be decided with truth, and the followers of falsehood will then be lost. (Qur'ân 40:78)

So those who follow the messengers who came before Muhammad PBUH are also saved. and Allah knows best.

Yes it means really to EVERY nation. The following will explain further.

To every people (was sent) A Messenger: when their Messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they Will not be wronged. (Al Qur’an 10:47)

For We assuredly sent Amongst every people a messenger (with the command), “Serve Allah and eschew Evil”: Of the people were some whom Allah guided, and some On whom Error became Inevitably (established). So travel Through the earth, and see What was the end of those Who enied (the Truth). (Al Qur’an 16:36)

And there never was a people, without a warner Having lived among them (In the past). (Al Qur’an 35:24)

And to every people a guide. (Al Qur’an 13:7)

There are 25 Prophets mentioned by name in the Glorious Qur’an. Some of such prophets are: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Stories of only some Prophets Mentioned in the Qur’an

It is mentioned in the Qur’an:

Of some messengers We have Already told you the story; Of others we have not And to Moses Allah spoke direct.(Al Qur’an 4:164)

We did aforetime send Messengers before you: of them There are some whose story We have related to you, And some whose story We have not related To you. (Al Qur’an 40:78)

According to Prophet Muhammad PBUH there were 1,24,000 Prophets sent by Allah to mankind.

All the prophets that came before Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were sent for their people and nation, and the complete message they preached was meant only for that time but Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the Last and Final Messenger

It is mentioned in Surah Al-Ahzab: Muhammad is not The father of any Of your men, but (he is) The Messenger of Allah,And the Seal of the Prophets: And Allah has full knowledge Of all things (Al Qur’an 33:40)

Since Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was the last and final messenger of Allah (swt), he was not sent for only Muslims or the Arabs but he was sent for the whole of Humankind. It is mentioned in the Qur’an:

We sent you not, but As a mercy for all creatures (Al Qur’an 21:107)

We have not sent you But as a universal (Messenger) To men, giving them Glad tidings, and warning them (Against sin), but most men Understand not. (Al Qur’an 34:28)

“Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said every prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to whole of humankind”.

First...what does "Alhamdulelah" mean?

I got to say that this is pretty alarming. Did Allah really send a prophet to all the peoples of the earth? If so, then how come historically there wasn't any monotheism until the Jews???

Wouldn't there be a written account of monotheism from the Chinese, American Indian, Eskimo, Druid, African Bushman etc????

Monotheism was these long long time before the Jews., Monotheism was the only religion preached by all prophets since the time of Prophet Adam pbuh. Even if you read the Hindu scriptures, Buddhist Scriptures etc, you will come to know that the message of ONE GOD is always there. But people kept on changing the word of God for some worldly gain or some unknown reasons.

For example, if you read the Hindu scriptures you find some verses like:

Yajur Veda 40:8: "All those who worship the uncreated things, they are in

darkness, and you'll enter more into darkness if you worship the created things."

Yajur Veda 3:32: "...Of that God you cannot make any images."

<b>Even the hindu scriptures gives clear commandment not to make any images of God. BUT WHO CARES </b> :)

Yajur Veda 32:3: "God is formless and bodiless"

Rig Veda, Vol.6,45:16: <b>"There is only One God, worship Him."
</b>

As you can see the message of ONE GOD (MONOTHEISM) is clear before before even the Jews.
