KEY TO THE SAINTLY PATH

A course based on the book "Miftah Tariq al-Awliyâ" by Shaykh Ahmad


bin Ibrahim al-Wasiti (d. 711 AH). It can be described as a Blueprint


for the Believer with regards to his or her religious and spiritual


growth. It brings together, in a succinct but profound manner, the


inward and outwards duties a person is required to know and fulfil


in their worship of Allah and service to humanity. This classical


text lays out a simple schema for Muslims as to how they can live


an ethical, God-conscious life in this age of spiritual turmoil


and socio-political upheaval.


Both Ibn Hajr al-'Asqalani and al-Dhahabi describe Shaykh Ahmad


bin Ibrahim al-Wasiti as a "master", "gnostic - 'arif" and "of


great standing". Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali describes him as espousing


"al-tasawwuf al-sahih", i.e. the sound form of Sufism or Islamic


spirituality. Ibn Taymiyyah considered him to be the Junayd


al-Baghdadi of his age; and personally addressed him as "our


shaykh, the gnostic, the exemplar, the wayfarer to Allah."


Course objective: To understand the text's overall life-schema,


so as to begin internalising its invitation.


The course will cover all the eight brief chapters of the book, a


complete translation of which will be provided. The themes to be


discussed will include: Remembering the Awesome Ordeal of Judgement


Day; Preparing the Essential Provisions - learning and carrying out


the basic requirements of the Sacred Law, as well as the rights and


responsibilities we owe to Allah and to others; Being attached to


Prophetic guidance, conduct and character - inwardly and outwardly,


in one's day to day life; How to instill and nurture love for the


Prophet (pbuh); Sincerity, Sacred Knowledge and Divine Remembrance;


Love, awe, fear and intimacy with Allah; The role and influence of


friends and the company we keep; Prayer - its importance and inner


dimensions.

MID-WEEK MUSLIM MARRIAGE EVENT


Date: Wednesday 31st May 2006


Time: 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm


Venue: Room B04, Basement, Birkbeck College, Malet Street, London, WC1E 7HX


All Muslims are welcome to attend regardless of ethnicity, marital status


or 'level' of faith and practice. Mahrams and elders are strongly encouraged


to attend and assist where possible. Profiles of brothers and sisters are to


be displayed and meetings will be arranged at the venue, insha'Allah. No


attendance means no display of profiles


The event will be attended by scholar who will be available for any advice


and to address questions or concerns that you may have. Pre-registration is


not necessary, just turn up by 6.00 pm. There will however be a compulsory


group discussion / exercise that will start at 6.30 pm. Hence you must be


there by 6.15 pm at the latest.


Save 5 trips to the Ambala, avoid all the hassle of cooking and meet up to 5


potential spouses under 1 roof. This event is for sincere and serious


people, not time wasters and people with bad manners. The event is not


designed for those who have overstayed their student visas or are looking to


gain residency. Only British citizens and permanent residents may attend.

2 separate intensive courses covering Module 1


& Module 2 depending one's ability.


MODULE 1: Introduction to Arabic Language, Arabic in context of other


Islamic sciences, Study skills 1: Memorisation techniques, Alphabets and


vocabulary, Definition: The Article, Gender, Demonstrative pronouns,


Personal pronouns: attached and detached, The possessive case, Prepositions,


Adjectives and adjectival sentences, Past tense and conjugation.


Memorisation of templates: Af'al Form I past only, Minimum of 20 verbs


Speaking and Listening: Articulate sounds of Arabic and listen for gist,


Introducing oneself, family and close friends, Asking for and giving


personal Information, Ask for clarification.


MODULE 2: Present tense and conjugation, Study skills: personal


organisation, Plurals Divisions of nouns, verbs and particles, Types of


sentences: Nominal and verbal, Relative pronouns, Learning through story 1,


Colours and defects,


Memorisation of templates: Af'al Form 5, 6 and 7, Maf'ul Form 5, 6 and 7,


Minimum of 20 verbs,


Speaking and Listening: Ask for and tell the time/day, Make requests using


appropriate terms, Give description of places and things, Express likes and


dislikes, Apologise.


About the Teachers:


* Ustadha Aisha Tasnim has a BA in Arabic from School of Oriental and


African Studies (SOAS) and has studied Arabic at Alexandria University in


Egypt. She is PGCE qualified and has completed the Habiba Tajweed Teacher


Training Course (Stage 1).


* Ustadha Muhsina Thahera is qualified with a Bachelor of Education (BEd)


and has a Diploma in Arabic Language from the Shariah Institute in France


(IESH). After some period of study in the Middle East, she received ijazah's


in Tajwid from Shaykh Aiman of Saudi Arabia and has ijazah's for Nurul Idah


from the female scholars of Syria. Currently she is a teacher with the


Habiba Institute in London.


Class sizes will be small. The course fee for 13 weeks is £65. There is a


mandatory non-refundable registration fee of £15. The courses are for


serious people. No time wasters or those holding a poor record of


punctuality and a 'freebie' mentality. Please book early as only very


limited places are left.

Come learn the basics of Islam in a clean, relaxed and comfortable


environment. The sessions will be discussing issues related to women and


mothers in a practical manner. This is an opportunity to share concerns,


exchange ideas and learn how to improve as a Muslim woman and mother. There


will also be sessions on tafseer of Quran, purification of the soul, and


Tajweed.
