Thinking about death is not wrong. It actually encourages us to work harder and better when we realize just how short this life is.

Wishing for death is wrong because once you are dead, you can no longer earn good deeds. Muslims should hope for long good lives in order to earn many deeds in the pursuit of pleasing Allah.

In Muslim, Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported : Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Let none of you wish for death, nor he ask for it before it comes to him, because when he dies, his actions will be terminated; certainly the age of a (true) believer does not add but good.''

Why any one wish to die?

There are two reasons for this desire.

1- Because of the trouble in which he is involved, and wishing death in this case means unacceptance of the GOD will.Being patient is better.

Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: None of you should make a plea for death because of the trouble in which he is involved, but if there is no other way, then say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as there is goodness in life for me and bring death to me when there is goodness in death for me.

2-Having no desire in the evanescent pleasures of life,in this case he must know that life is his way to the heaven.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: None among you should make a wish for death, and do not invoke Allah for it before it comes, for when anyone of you dies, he ceases (to do good) deeds and the life of a believer is not prolonged except for doing good.

Assalaamu'alaykum,

death will surely come whether you're wishing for it or not. the time is fixed. it won't come sooner neither will it come later. when the determined time arrived, we are out of this world.

so, what should we do then? let just wish for a good death. imagine if we die tomorrow. will it be better to die during maa'siyah or will it be better to die in our sujuud?

thinking about death might be good and might be harmful. how and what we are thinking changes it's nature.

and the holliest death among all is, of course, syahid. ameen.

Wallahu'alam.

Assalam allikum,

Thanks for that. I am so glad those many years ago I never commited that sin. Something told me I will be in hell fire. Maybe I had to go through that trial to find Islam.

The difference between a Muslim and a non Muslim is that we are always looking forward for a successful end when we Insh aAllah will be comforted from all tests and tribulations of this life. We are always keeping in mind that whatever we face is either a cause for the elimination of sins or elevation of ranks. That Allah Tests whom He Loves. We usually take comfort in looking at the lives of messengers, prophets and companions of the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam and compare ours with theirs. We live luxurious lives, riding cars, enjoying air conditioning, working under comfortable envioronment, eating ice cream and drinking coffee, and just for the slightest problem we may face like an unjust boss, broken love, teaching husband, unkind parents, loosing money...etc, we just flip out and feel unable to cope.

Only yesterday I was remembering what Yusuf suffered, how at the age of like 6 or 7 he was subjected on an attept on his life. The irony is who were the perpturators? His borthers. Actually this what mutliplies the pain, not the killing attempt. He was there alone in a deep well. Ok after been saved, he was thrown in jail for being a chaste man. But then what is the fruit? Only because he was patient, Allah Granted him power, authority, the blessing of wisdom and knowledge of intepreting dreams. Wow.

A muslim knows that he/she is in this life on a temporary basis, thus, nothing is permenant. Omar when he used to be inflicted with a crisis used to thank Allah 3 times, that this crisis was not affecting the level or strenghth of his religion, that it already happened, and that it was not more serious that already is.

This is what keeps a muslim from committing suicide. Alhamdulelah
