When Is Eid

The most logical reason I have seen is that the government was scared that, with Eid starting on a weekend (Friday), the crowds would have been too big. By moving Eid to Thursday, the crowds in Saudi Arabia will be smaller since most Saudi citizens will have to work.

My understanding is that most countries in the middle east use Saturday as the first day of the work week, and Thursday and Friday are the weekend. So that theory wouldn't make sense. I don't live in the middle east so I'm not entirely sure about Saudi, although I do know for sure that is the case in Kuwait.


And whether it's on a weekend or not I imagine the crowds would be huge anyway. Aren't they always huge for Eid?
