Ramadan in Egypt has a very special taste. I guess like it does in every other spot of the world. Sobhan Allah, there are some traditions to express the advent of Ramadan that starts taking place one week alomst before the month. For example, lanterns are sold so that children lit them and play in the evening. During my childhood, they were lit by a candle, we used to get those nice colorful small lanterns in which we install a candle and go around the house repeating a certain nasheed. Now they make them with bubls. In the small low class areas, people set very local and traditional ovens to make something called kunafa and Qatayef (special kinds of dough made in the form of small panckes or long thing threads). Of this kunafa and qatayef people make sweets that are only consumed during Ramadan. Also small stores start making special outlets to sell fava beans which is usually eatern for Suhur. Not only this but street peddlers go around midnight to sell fava beans. what really brings joy to my heart is when stores decorate their facad with small lights in preparation for the month and expressing joy for this blessed month.

What is really most important about Ramadan in Egypt, I think most Muslim countries share this characteristic if not the Muslim communities living in the West, is the Raman Table. In other words, dining table of Ar Rahman (The Merciful). Almost in each district people go into collective efforts, contribute with charity money, prepare ahead of Ramadan, set tables as much as each group of people can. As the month starts, they cook food in a close location to the tables, serve Iftar for whoever is passing by. Originally of course they target poor people in each area. But for example the traffic man who is taking a shift and can not go home, a taxi driver who couldn’t make it home before Iftar, or even a passing by who couldn’t make it home. Mash a Allah when u see those people who don’t know each other sharing the same table. But of course one who uses the table must realize that he/.she is using charity money. But the scene is so touching, it expresses real brotherhood of Islam, all what gathers them is Islam and time for Iftar. This really touches me much. O after I wrote this post, I went out and watched more on this activity thought to update. Even store owners like for example car agencies, they set a number of tables in front of the shop area and serve whoever wants to join. In some areas people even used spaces under fly overs or bridges to set the tables. Egyptians are really innovative, aren’t they?


While masjeds of course operate after Esha for salatu taraweeh. It really moves me much to listen to the masejds performing the salat on the first night of Ramadan as soon as they announce its advent.


Alhamdulelah, such efforts really makes a balance in the Egyptian society that has been much affected with the Western concepts. Young people are divided into either running such efforts, dedicating their cars and free time to room the streets colleting either financial or in kind donations, setting the necessary facilities for this achievement on time, making sure to access the target groups thru social researches. It really makes one happy to see this category of young people. On the other hand of course we are not in Jannah, Another group of youngsters are so busy with TV programs which astaghferllah are intensified during this month Sobhan Allah. Or they go seek entertainment in specially set up tents either at 5 star hotels, restaurants or even the opera house. Unfortunately some forget the real purpose of Ramadan. They get confused why they should stay up at night thinking they may indulge in such activities.


But Alhamdulelah as the Messenger SAW said good shall remain in my Ummah till the Day After.


Just felt to share all these thoughts with my brothers and sisters.

Allow me to post about what Eid is like in Egypt. Sobhan Allah it has a very special taste. Then Insh aAllah will talk about Ramadan in Mecca.


It starts since the previous evening, people nearly don’t sleep, celebrating and cheering. On Eid morning, all Masjeds start doing the Takbeer after Fajr prayer. O even 3 days before end of Ramadan, large masjeds that are located in main squares prepare spacious areas with carpets for Eid prayer as it is a Sunnah to pray in the open air. On that morning as I said Takbeer starts after Farj till Eid prayer time. U find people from different classes going to Majeds each in their own means, either private cars, public mini vans, or buses. They usually get off in a close walking distance as streets becomes really busy in the morning. At some times, I had major difficulty reaching the Masjed I usually go to on time. It is so nice in the morning when u see children dressed up in their new clothes, which they like dream of buying it before Eid. People usually take with them dates, or candy to give to children and other in the Masjeds.


After prayer we come back home, it is a tradition to have special type of cookies stuffed with either dates, walnuts or pistachio according to the financial capability of the family. Most families like to make it at home and this is another occasion which children really love to attend. The making of such cookies.


Usually during Ramadan people never eat fish for Iftar, that is why on Eid day mostly they eat fish to the extend that fish take away restaurants become very busy. Sometimes u need to book your order 3 days ahead.


What I really like is to watch simple people who can not afford expensive outings going to public parks (other classes go to private membership clubs or resorts outside of the main cities like to the Red Sea). They spend the day at the park. Because of these people Sobhan Allah small business mushroom. U find a man who brings in a very primitively made swings (since they can not afford taking children to fun parks) which he allows children to ride for small amount of money, or those who rent them horses to ride, yes horses. The fact that they look Mash a Allah very much enjoying themselves that makes me happy. I can watch them from my window since I live close to one of those main parks in a main street.


Of course families visit each other, children get a lot of money on that day. Some families meet on the first day and then if they have plans out of Cairo they leave the next day.


Well it does have a special taste. May Allah accept ameen

Inshaallah. I was for 1 time real in mecca and madeena. And for 2 time in my dream. But one of my dreams, the kaaba looks like oldtimes. There was arround kabaa no any hight build or anythink else. i could can see kaba form everyside of mecca. it was for me, one of my happydreams. I thought i life in the times where sahaba lived.i cant forget this dream anyway...But now I m low with me. This makes me sad and responsible against Allah swt. I think sometimes, Allah swt help me give me so much rezq and i m dont earn that all because I m not a abd like HE wish from me... Allahumma ajerna menannaar. amin..wassalam

Masha'Allah very nice vision, sometimes visions will come true after long years of waiting maybe 10 years or more Like prophet Yusuf his vision came true after 30 years or more, it is just we need to be patient brother, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala tests us through our life to show us if we are good or bad, and how then he will accept from the patient ones and reward them and those who turn away from him will be losers, so keep on running to Allah always and he will help u insha'Allah, and insha'Allah soon u will go to Omra and Haj

Ramadhan in Malaysia.... A Sad Story....


Sad story? yes, very sad story.... in Malaysia, Ramadhan is a month to prepare for the Eid (yes, it is!!!). very few people appreciate Ramadhan, for them it is just a month of Saum and Tarawikh, no more.... and Eid is a different thing... it is celebrated the whole month (yes, it is!!!). now there's still some Eid celebration here and there in Malaysia


that's why by the first of Shawal i lots my spirit. i don't understand why those people out there enjoy this day like it was an anarchy day. they did everything that they constrainted during Ramadhan, even ma'siyyah. didn't they learnt anything from Ramadhan. Eid is about thanking Allah, not scrumming the cinemas and holding pasties everyday.


you won't see any spirit of Ramadhan in here. u turn on the TV, and u can see an Eid commercial, even before Ramadhan...


now Ramadhan is gone, they lost it, so did i......


may the next Ramadhan be better..

long time, so glad to see u on today. I understand what u mean. U know what if one does not gain something extra from Ramadan I mean like keep reading Quran, keep late night prayer, keep Qiyamul laiyal, then the month is wasted.


But we have to continue struggling Arif, we must continue trying with ourselves first before looking at people. U know what, there is much good but hidden I mean usually people are inclinded to spread the bad words I am sure there is positive sides in every place but not revealed. May Allah Help us to inspire others.


Start with yourself in a nice kind way, tell others that u will try to maintain what u gained during RAmadan, tell people that it was easy to read Quran during Ramadan and that u will not stop, tell people u will try to do extra prayer be a role model. It will be difficult at the beginning but then people will Insh aAllah listen and follow
