Can You Remind Someone That They Are Fasting,
#1

asalamualyakum

lets just someone forgets that they were fasting and they eat accidently, am i as a bystander suppose to stop them.

I heard that if you eat but your doing that without any intention, basically you're not aware of what you are doing, that your fast will still not be void. Even if they eat as much as they want, their fast will still be accepted.

so if thats true, then do we have a right to remind people, or shoud we just let them eat in peace? [Image: ohmy.gif]

I am hesitant to reply without daleel but I have a difficult time imagining the Prophet sitting silently by as a muslim stuffs his face during Ramadan. I am pretty sure that he would remind the brother. Allah Knows best and may I be Forgiven for any wrong that I say.

As for me, I would tell a brother nicely that we are fasting. If they ignore me, then at least I believe that I have fulfilled my duty.

Asalamalaykum Yasmin

Sometimes some of us do forget that we’re fasting and we eat unintentionally. I am sure I have read in an authentic hadeeth that whoever eats unintentionally while they’re fasting, that their fast will not be broken. (Sorry don’t have the reference to the hadeeth). So far I’ve seen a few people accidentally throwing something in their mouth while they’re fasting, I remind them and I think you should do the same Yasmin.

Just think about it for a second, someone is fasting with a Niyaa and they drink something while making wudu or while they’re cooking, I think that person would want us to remind them of what they’re doing or even stop them. Wouldn’t they? It’s also important to know, that when these people drink or eat unintentionally, it’s a gift from Allah to them.

They didn’t do that through their own efforts alhamdulilah. That’s why they’ll not be held accountable for why they ate. I don’t mean to pass on a fatwa, but how will Allah perceive us? If we just stand by and don’t say something. I think for me that answers it.

Sometimes, you just want to check if the salt is alright [Image: wink.gif] , and ahem you end up eating, or you are mixing drinks in the mixer, and you wonder, hmm how much sugar did I actually put in? and as you check for the sugar, oops you end up drinking a glass full. Or you are making wudu and the more the freshness of the water feels your skin, you end up drinking the water, you get this urge to want to taste the water, lol, espcially when its hot summer here in NZ.

I probably sound like I do this all the time [Image: rolleyes.gif]

Would you all agree that people who are mostly working hard in the kitchen making iftar for everyone, are the ones who get most tempted to unintentionally eat? [Image: smile.gif], they are cooking for hours, and making all of these yummie food.

Yasmeen, after all of my "talking" I hope I made some sense, [Image: ph34r.gif]

And don't be shy to ask questions, ask anything and everything, if we know better we'll tell you, if we don't then we'll refer you to someone who knows.
