What does Islam say about the mentally retarded people who cannot follow Islam due to lack of mental understanding. According to Islam, are people who are so mentally handicapped that they are incapable of answering a question, let alone praying, capable of being muslims? Do they get to go to heaven even if they never have prayed once in their life? What if a mentally retarded person rejects Islam for no reason other than their retardation makes them say odd things?

If I remember right, the Quran says that people who are mentally ill and cannot comprehend these types of things will go to heaven.


If one cannont understand and is unable to think to accept Islam, than he/she is also unable to reject it.


And because the Quran states that everyone is a Muslim at birth, then they are already Muslim by default.

A person who is mentally disabled, will not be held responsible for anything. All people born with mental disorders (whether Muslims or non-Muslims) will go to heaven by the Will of God. Since they didn't have the mental capacity to reason and accept God, God doesn't hold them responsible for any of their acts.


Allah knows full well who deserves to go to Heaven and who deserves to go to Hell, Why would Allah punish someone who doesn't even know what they're doing? Allah is the most Mercyful, He is the most kind, he would never do anyone unjustly.
