It is sunnah of prophet (pbuh )to keep beard but Allah ( Swt ) have not made it obligatory. If you keep beard it is well and good but if you don't then you don't have any fear of being held in hereafter.

I would like to welcome our brothers to the board, jones and Irfan, And with respect to my brothers, yes it is Sunnah, but if u love the Prophet(PBUH) then u will obey him in all his acts and deeds.

In the holy Quran it says: Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem

21. Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much. 33, Surat Al-Ahzab

1. By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes).

2. Your companion (Muhammad ) has neither gone astray nor has erred.

3. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.

4. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired.

5. He has been taught (this Qur'ân) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. , 53, Surat An-Najm

59. O you who believe! Obey Allâh and obey the Messenger (Muhammad ), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allâh and His Messenger (), if you believe in Allâh and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.
4, Surat An-Nisa'

And if u read more in the Quran u will find many ayas that tell us to obey the Prophet(PBUH)

So whatsover the prophet speaks or does then it is revelation from Allah Subhanahu Wa T'ala

Now the hadeeth of the Prophet(PBUH):

Yahya A.S. related to me from Malik A.S. from Abu Bakr ibn Nafi A.S. from his father Nafi A.S. from Abdullah ibn Umar A.S. that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered the moustache to be trimmed and the beard to be left. - Imam Malik's Muwatta Book 51, Number 51.1.1

Also more Ahadeeth by rasool Allah Sala Allah alayhi wa Salam

Importance of the Beard in the words of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam):

(1) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said "I have no connection with one who shaves, shouts and tears his clothing eg. in grief or affication."

- Reported by Abu Darda (R.A.) in Muslim, Hadith no. 501

(2) The teachings of Ammar Bin Yaasir, Abdullah Ibn Umar, Umar, Abu Hurairah and Jaabir (R.A.), indicate that ALL used to keep beards that were one fist length or more. Jaabir (R.A.) had said: "We used to grow long beards and only during Hajj and Umrah did we trim them to the required length (i.e. fist length)."

(3) Abdullah Ibn Umar (R.A.) relates that: "He who imitates the kuffar (non-believers) and dies in that state, he will be raised up with them on the Day of Qiyamat (Judgement)."

(4) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) says: "Trim closely the moustache, and let the beard flow (Grow)."

- Narrated Ibn Umar (R.A.) in Muslim, Hadith no. 498

(5) "Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) ordered us to trim the moustache closely and spare the beard" says Ibn Umar.

- Muslim, Hadith no. 449

(6) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)said: "Act against contrary to the polythesists, trim closely the moustache and grow the beard."

- Reported by Ibn Umar (R.A.) in Muslim, Hadith no. 500

(7) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said "Trim closely the moustache and grow the beard."

- Reported by Abu Hurairah (R.A.) in Muslim, Hadith no. 501

(8) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Anyone who shaves has no claim to the mercy of Allah"

- Reported by Ibn Abbas (R.A.) in Tibrabi

(9) Abdullah Ibn Umar (R.A.) used to cut that portion (which exceeds the grip of the hand) of the beard.

- Tirmidhi

So what do u think, will u keep on a beard or not ?

As Salam alaikum

I had to ask myself what would Allah prefer me to do (which was obvious) and why do I not want to grow mine long. It is because the society that I live in disdains it or sees it as scruffy or unclean.

I know have a beard but I have yet to let it just grow without trimming it. Insha'Allah, I will step by step move closer to that which pleases Allah.

Growing a beard after shaving for so long is actually quite itchy, the face returning to it's natural state i guess. I just hope i'm not tempted to trim it too much, let it grow thick style nameen. [Image: biggrin.gif] If i see myself lifting that razor too close to it i'm gonna smack my own hand. I know how dan feels, the beard is looked on as messy or the sign of an unclean person in this western society. There was a national poll on a breakfast show over here stating that 9 out of 10 women prefer a clean shaven man. That kinda made me more determined to grow one, if i was single, don't think i would want to attract those kind of women. Once the outside pretty boy is gone in the years to come will they love the person inside? HmMmMMmmm. I see myself in a years time with a proper long thick beard...and my daughter running away scared when i go to hug her [Image: biggrin.gif]

Assalamu aleikum brother Anyabwile,

Alhamdulillah you are so strong in your beleifs, your progress is due to Allah, SWT. May He continue to protect you so that you may grown and learn more and more.

I want to ask you if I can use some of your words that you wrote, they are very funny [Image: smile.gif] ? Without revealing who you are of course, just pick some of the words out, and write them down on an Swedish web-site where I am involved in discussions with a lot of people, NONE of them Muslims - not yet anyway [Image: dry.gif] . Just to point out also that there is a male side of Muslims too and not only a women side!
