60 Questions For The Christians
#31

Salam all

U r right Umm, I live in Egypt where the majority of Christians are called Copts or Orthodox. They also believe in trinity. But to them Jesus is god himself in human form not his son. I mean god himself incarnated into man.

As salaam aleikum sister,

Yes that is how I understand my friends belief too, that Jesus is not a personal son, and that he is one unity in the trinity and also god incarnated.

Alhamdullillah for the unity of Allah, SWT, in Islam and no doctrines that is difficult to explain or to understand. Allah, SWT, has made our Path so straight and clear, by following Islam.

"It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Dhul, (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah); for them (only) there is security and they are the guided" The Quran 6:82.

thank you for your explanation... but i have more confusions in my mind, if you can clear out the doubts for me. If Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit are the same God but in different forms, so during the lifetime of Jesus, is there any God 'up there' administering the universe?

Yes. In theory, if God can and is everywhere at once (which is why he can catch many people doing naughty things at the same time) than it is very likely that he could be the incarnate of Jesus and the Supreme Being living in the clouds at the same time. This is just the way it was taught to me, not what I actually believe.

And Zachariah...

As far as the trinity in other Christian faiths, I'd believe the priest who told you. I only know about Catholicism basically. I know some about other branches, but not a whole lot. If he says that Anglicans, Episcopalians, Orthodox, or whatever believe in the trinity, they probably do.

As for the sin thing. Sin is the most confusing part of Catholicism/Christianity. Really, I can't explain that to you. Ask a priest or a bishop, they could tell you.

And Muslimah....

Confession is not primarily used to gain forgiveness from the priests, it is to ask the priest to guide you in the right direction to deliver you from sin. In Catholicism, there is almost a holy heirarchy that goes God, Pope, Cardinals, Archbishiops, and so forth. So these priests are closer to understanding the workings of God than a lay-person would be. Priests don't say "Ok, I think Jesus forgives you" in confessional, they tell you what to do to deliver yourself from sin. Drinking too much? Examine what causes you to drink. Cheating on your wife? Are you truely in love with her? Etc.

Hope that helps. It would also bear reiterating that Catholics like to distance themselves from Christianity as much as possible. This is why my answers may not correspond with those of non-Catholic Christians on thie board.

so you mean that when Jesus is on earth, He's also administering the whole universe. that would also include during the time when He was still a baby or even still in the womb of Virgin Mary?

then another question, Peace In Ireland....

""ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?"

which has been interpreted as

"My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)"

or in some interpretation i found it is:

"Father, Father, Why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34)"

who is this "God"/"Father" anyway? was Jesus praying to Himself since He is the one God?

Hi again and salaam Peace in Ireland, and thank you for taking time to reply.

If you allow me I have some comments to your answer, which was

- And Zachariah...

I think we much agree on that the doctrine of trinity is commonly spread among different branches within Christianity.

As you also wrote somewhere in an earlier comment, that the Bible is written by men. There are much written about that subject so we dont have to disagree on what we agree on.

There was an article to read, yes it is many years ago, but the statement is still interesting to take part in. And for me, it is a clear sign to that also many Christians believe, but at the same time DONT BELIEVE the doctrines in Christianity. Surely that may also be one of the reasons WHY many leave Christianity. True belief comes also from what the heart believes and not only by doing lip-service. Please dont take offense, just trying to explain.

*Shock survey

Of Anglican bishops

LONDON: More than half of England’s Anglican bishops say Christians are not obliged to believe that Jesus Christ was God, according to a survey published today.

The poll of 31 of England’s 39 bishops shows that many of them think that Christ’s miracles, the virgin birth and the resurrection might not have happened exactly as described in the Bible.

Only 11 of the bishops insisted that Christians must regard Christ as both God and man, while 19 said it was sufficient to regard Jesus as “God’s supreme agent”. One declined to give a definite opinion.

The poll was carried out by London Weekend Television’s weekly religion show, Credo.

Yes, as a Muslimah I agree with you that the sin issue within Christianity is very confusing. I have asked several priests and they just state the existing belief, I have not so far though found a satisfying EXPLANAITION to believe in it.

who is this "God"/"Father" anyway? was Jesus praying to Himself since He is the one God?

Your first question: Yes. Even when he was a fetus, he was still layin' down the holy law.

Your second question: Jesus was asking the question to his father, God. And yes, Jesus was also God. But the physical embodiment of Christ could not have existed if God had not made him. So there was a little difference I guess.

THis is exactly why I don't believe in Christianity. Too many contradictions. I think is people just took the lessons of Jesus and used them as sort of a philosophical way of living your life, we'd be much better off. But people take stuff too litteraly. They think Jesus really made wine out of water, that he fed a whole field of people with a loaf of bread and a fish, and that he walked on water. Odds are, these were metaphors. So I'm not trying to say that your questions are easily explainable by logic, because they certainly aren't. I'm just trying to give you the Christian answer to them. If you want to go to a Catholic church and ask a priest of nun some questions, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to talk with you. That's all they do all day.

thanks for the explanation Peace, although i didn't get the satisfactory answers from it, but that's normal. i've been talking to Christians missionaries about this, but none of them can explain the concept of trinity.

Quote:But the physical embodiment of Christ could not have existed if God had not made him. So there was a little difference I guess.

as i said, if God made him, then he is not the same God as God himself. but, let just leave that matter behind. my faith in Allah would not change anyway....

about the miracles of Jesus, we , muslims, do believe in them. We love Jesus since he is a holy prophet. in fact he is one of the Ulil Azmi ( there are five of them Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) , Isa (Jesus) and Muhammad (peace be upon them all)). and he is also one of the mesengers that received the book from Allah ( Dawud( David) received Zabur(psalm), Musa (Moses) received Taurah (old testament), Isa (Jesus) received Injil (new testament) and Muhammad received Al-Qur'an). all of the prophets were given abilities to perform miracles, like when Moses cut the red sea, Abraham stay alive in the huge flame etc. like what Umm Zachariah quoted "God's supreme agent' <--- the mesenger of God.

if you call them metaphors, i'd prefer to call them 'onthology'.

Dudes, look. Religion isn't about making sense. Christianity's been around for thousands of years, of course all kinds of crap gets caught up in it just like in Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, and every other organized faith. I don't think Christianity is right and I don't think Islam is right. As I said, ask a priest or a bishop. He'll talk to you over a nice bowl of communion wafers and wine. I'm just the product of Roman Catholicism who's tryin' to relay the message from the main man JC the best I can.
