Was Islam Spread By Sword?
#11

Salaam Alaikum 8)

If you don't mind me chiming in here..... this certainly isn't the first time I've ran across this discussion. I definately not an expert in this area, but I think I'm not so wet behind the ears, either.

The sword has been used in the history of Islam, but it certainly was NOT used for conversions. This is where things get twisted up. Muslims defended themselves, and at the point of possible death, only out of MERCY were they offered a chance to continue thier life.

Here is something that I've read just today on another forum:

<b>they were in a war against the Kafir and Ali was fighting this man, who was not as strong as him, so quite quickly he had the man in a position where he could kill him. Ali said to the man 'declare that there is no God but Allah and that Muhumad (pbuh) is is prophet and i will spare your life' and the man said 'never' - so Ali made his move to kill the man and the man spat in his face. as soon as he spat in his face Ali (may allah be pleased with him) stepped back and told the man 'get out of here, i cant kill you now' - the man said 'you could have killed me easily, why didnt you?' - and Ali said 'i was gonna kill you for the sake of Allah and his religion, but when you spat in my face it made me angry - if i had killed you, it may have been to satisfy my own anger instead for the sake of islam, and that would put me in the fire'</b>

on hearing this, the man became muslim.

You see? Now here we have a perfect example of fighting and conversion at the same time.... now, can you pinpoint how things like can get twisted down the road?

Just to further clarify, the kafir was an aggressor, and they were told to give a last chance. I mean no Muslim was instructed to go into houses and put a sowrd asking people to take shahada. U know how Islam was introduced in Egypt? When the Egyptian copts sent to Omar asking for help because Roman Catholics were pressuring them and forcing them to become catholics when they wanted to remain Orthosox as they call themselves. They knew that Islam will never force them to join unless they want to willingly.

Assalamu aleikum,

Sister Muslimah, so good to read some more, from an 'insider', masha'Allah.

Do you know any good source on the net, or do anyone else, where I can read some more of this issue? Any suggestions?

No, I'm not Roman Catholic. I'm a Lutheran. More specifically, I belong to a group called "Lutheran Church Canada" which is the Canadian arm of the larger "Lutheran Church Missouri Synod" in the USA.

As I said u answered half of the question

Christianity, as understood and believed by the Christians - Roman Catholic, the Protestant Church, or any other denomination consists of Three Creeds, namely the Apstles, the Nicene and the Athanasian. The fundamental and basic doctrine of modern Christianity maybe summarized as follows:

1.Jesus is the Son of God. This is the basis of the Doctrine of Trinty, the Divinity of Jesus and the Divine Son-ship of Jesus.

2.Jesus died on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins and resurrected on the third day. This is the basis of the Doctrine of Original Sin (Eve’s sin), and the Doctrine of Atonement.

3.Jesus has risen to the skies.

4.Jesus himself will come back again.

<b>Any one who deny any one of these Three Creeds is not a Christian but a liar.</b>

well I waited long enough for u to reply I also posted the same question before to PII who also held on that and never replied, I posted the question to him also on his one of his infamous defense posts about jews.

I guess both of u got my point that is why u never replied. Am not sure about my assumption

But well let me tell u as u believe that Jesus (may Allah forgive me) died on the cross, who made the plot against him? werent the jews who made the plot and called the Romans to find him and drag him. BTW we do believe that they found him, but the one who was put on the cross was never Eassa peace and prayer be upon him but one of the Nasara whom Allah Turned him to resemble Jesus exactly and he was the one who was put on the cross. But in all cases jews are the one who attempted (or according to u killd jesus), Not sure why are u defending them sooooo much. [Image: wacko.gif][Image: rolleyes.gif]

Yes, all Christians without exception believe that Jesus died on the cross.
