Assalamu alaikum,
It really does amaze me how many people are quite literally blind to reality.
I just finished reading "God's Rule" by Patricia Crone. Now here is a person who is fluent in Arabic and has spent most of her professional life studying Islam, and yet when she describes the most basic of Islamic concepts, it's clear she doesn't understand them, even though the answers are spelled out in plain language in the Holy Qur'an. F. E. Peters, in his book "The Hajj," demonstrates a similar failure to understand the simplest of concepts despite his study of the Holy Qur'an.
It is so true:
17.45. When thou dost recite the Qur'an, We put, between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter, a veil invisible:
46. And We put coverings over their hearts (and minds) lest they should understand the Qur'an, and deafness into their ears: when thou dost commemorate thy Lord and Him alone in the Qur'an, they turn on their backs, fleeing (from the Truth).
