“fahrenheit 9/11” The Hidden Message
#18

Assalamu alaikum,

I'm an American revert Alhamdulillah and so I feel I can comment on how a native American would perceive this film. By the end of the film I had forgotten about the section on the Saudis. The outrage an American would feel is toward Bush alone; the amount of information on his incompetence, dishonesty, and greed simply overwhelms everything else, and this is what the American audience is looking at. The entire second half of the movie is exclusively about the invasion of Iraq and its horrible consequences.

The most moving part of the film begins with scenes of Baghdad in March 2003: children playing on swings, slides; men sitting in coffee shops chatting with friends, women walking on the streets and smiling for the camera.

Then, a long, silent shot of Baghdad at night. Suddenly, a massive explosion that lights up the entire screen. Explosion after explosion, followed by pictures of children with arms and legs blown off, pieces of men and women in the rubble, women screaming and crying.
