Asalaamu alaikum,

It really isn't that hard to approach these people. You can start by asking if that is their full name. Most probably do have "Abdul" as the full name. Ask them if they know the meaning of their name. If they are unaware, you can simply tell them that their name is actually an attribute of Allah and it is best that they call themselves by their full name as the name is reserved for Allah alone.
