i don't think God and Jesus are the same, but they're one. you quoted the verse yourself. there is only One God but exists with 3 distinct Persons. the reason i suppose that Jesus seems to regard God as a higher being is because He's His Father, Jesus is the Son. also remember the fact that though Jesus was still God at that time, He's still a human.
