Bismillah
As salam alaikum
jazak allah
One of the points has hit home for me due to recent events:
25. The believers are but a single Brotherhood. Live like members of one family, brothers and sisters unto one another [49/10].
Unfortunately as an ummah we do not adhere to this one for the most part. It is one of our great failings, to hear about our brothers and sisters around the world suffering and at most many only feel pity and at worst feel nothing because they are not of the same culture, ethnicity, or race.
I was confronted with an aspect of this division and apathy in my community. Some of us were celebrating the graduations of our brothers and sisters from the local university. Others were celebrating Eid. The former included a sample of the diversity that this ummah has to offer. The latter was of only one culture from those from one region of the world. Not one invitation to those outside of this clique and when one brother wanted to join he was chided for not being invited. Alhamdulillah, he went anyway. He said, "Any time muslims gather, I am there."
If we want to advance this ummah, there are two very simple ways in which to do this. By simple, I mean that it requires little effort with great results. One is going to be obvious. Unite. I do not necessarily mean military or in mass gatherings. I mean more of the effort of making every muslim that we encounter feel as a brother, a companion. Dole out those smiles even if we do not feel happy. It is a form of charity! Earn those graces. Do not discount the effect of a sincere smile and a genuine "As salam alaikum." We must try to feel the meaning of these words, this blessing. We are asking Allah to send His Peace, His Serenity, His Calm, His Comfort upon our loved one, the one whom we love because he loves Allah. In return we get the same. If not in a returned greeting, then in the angels asking Allah to give us the same because what we ask for our brother, angels ask for us in return. Reaching out to one another, Insha'Allah will lay the foundations for this deen to raise the true brotherhood up once again.
The second requies a little more effort. The effort though will produce great effects. Basically, go to the mosque for fajr prayer, consistently. This act will purify our hearts. It will strengthen our iman. It shows Allah that we are willing to obey and are ready to serve Him. It also shows the rest of the world what Islam truly is. A high ranking Israeli official said that they will worry about muslims when they show up in numbers at fajr like they do for jummah prayer. If one reflects upon this, the reasons become apparent.
Jazak Allah Khair for your post. It added to my knowledge and reflection as well as got me to write about what has been rattling in my mind for some time. O' Allah raise us up to the level of Your deen. Let us be ready to serve and obey. Let us be guided by Your Light to The Truth and to Paradise. Allah Forgive me.
As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
